I was wondering if this is the thread to discuss the Pokémon universe or just to discuss EVs and IVs?

Okay I had some thoughts on the origin of Pokemon so hear it goes:

After Dialga and Palkia created the physical universe, Arceus saw this and decided to create more beings like him, so he used his plates to generate a massive object. This object was launched to Newborn Earth as a meteorite, it's collision causing the ejection of matter that formed the moon (also partially formed of the same matter as the object). The meteorite set off a massive eruption, before it solidified into it's current shape as the Tree of Beginning, the home of the first pokemon Mew (also at some point magma colaesced into the genderless pokemon Heatran). During the development of the first signs of biological life on Earth Groudon and Kyogre already developed, raising the lands and the seas. Then as the earliest lifeforms evolved so did the ancient pokemon in a parallel evolution. Isolated at first to the Tree they eventually migrated out, reaching far corners of the world where they easily displaced the majority of mundane life, becoming known to Bronze Age man as "Magical Creatures". Azelf, Uxie and Mesprit had already given humanity gifts of the mind, in Promethean fashion, making them partially transcendent. This allowed man to develop fantastic processes, such as time travel, golem animation and the most amazing of all energy-matter conversion.

EDIT: There are some holes to fill but all in all I covered just about everything. I might give some citations later if there are any questions.

Arceus created Dialga and Palkia (and Giratina), at least in game canon. That's why Arceus can give you a level 1 version of them at the Sinjoh Ruins.

    Also, Heatran has a gender.

I'm still of the belief that Arceus created Mew, who created Celebi, who went back in time to create Arceus.

No, I was just giving my head-canon on the chronology of the pokemon universe. Kind of how it became that way.

    Spoiler'd for length.

    Spoiler
    Show
In the beginning there was everything. Not just in this world, in this universe, in this dimension, but in all dimensions.

Darkness and light, fire and water, the softest dirt and the hardest steel, all spun together and back apart again. All collided, all burned and froze, matter met only to explode into scintillating energy, to return to radiate outwards and coalesce into matter once more. All was chaos, there was no frame of reference, there was no separation of objects, no space, no progress of events, there was no time. Nothing could truly happen, or not happen, nothing could occur before or after anything else, all was undefined, infinite in its impatience, yet waiting for an immeasurable eternity.

And then everything stopped, for in one corner of the infinite a possibility had occurred.

His genesis was the very chaos he froze, the very swirling infinite, for if all things could and did happen within, the one who could put all to order's existence would be an inevitability. And so he was. He, he alone was master of everything, in the infinite chaos he was the limitation, the law and the line, and with his coming things came to pass once more. At the moment of origin did he stop it, did he stop everything.

He was Arceus, and he had bound the infinite. Still, while his power was grand enough to do so, maintaining space and linear time was taxing, and most unenjoyable, and so his first act was to steal two new possibilities from all that was arrayed before him. One would hold, one would confirm time, the other would bind, the other would define space. Palkia and Dialga emerged from the frozen chaos at their creator's command, eager to do their work. Dialga's, it seemed, was the simpler, for while linearity of events was established, space was a much more slippery entity, it seemed. There was too much, all possibilities were spread far too wide for them to be contained in any finite, or even a functionally endless void, the matter and energy would scream outwards from it, and rend all such limitations the moment it was permitted to do so, the moment Arceus set it free.

It seemed before space could be defined, all things would need to be controlled or banished, and so first Arceus cut free a portion of the infinite, creating a wall between the smaller portion and the greater, forming what would prove to be a rather significant dimension, at least as far as many were concerned. Behind that wall, he bid Palkia define his space, and so it began, but still, even a small portion of the infinite was still endless, still without the ability to be so simply bound, and so Arceus began on the next step.

    The Coalescence.

Fire with fire, water with water, earth with earth, he would draw all the disparate materials together, concentrate them, for he, who commanded all, could perhaps force the infinite out of them one by one. But he found himself perplexed, some of the elements, the energies, when drawn together reacted violently, conglomerate potions of material, earth and steel, exploded into energy only to reform elsewhere.

Here our tale becomes muddled, some say Arceus next formed a new entity to lord over the disparate pieces, the strange materials, others say it arose from his need for it, a shadow that came from his uncertainties, while a third group say that it, much like Arceus himself, had emerged from the infinite, and equal to the grand god of origin, but of a different sliver of the infinite. Whatever the case, Giratina emerged, laying claim to half of the reactive mass, drawing it away into his own dimension, his own world, where he sat in lordship over its opposed nature.

With the disruptive essence gone, creation could continue, and continue it did. At first Arceus merely wished to crush out the infinity that so inconvenienced his follower, but soon he found that there were much more interesting things that could be done with the materials available to him. He spun planets and stars into being, laying the foundations for their movement, pinning them up within space, defining it, forming it, creating the finite for Palkia to command and define.

The process was long, but when it was finally finished, Arceus was free of his burden, no longer need he hold all that is or could be in check, time proceeded on its own, and space was formed and defined, and all was well.

    For a time.

For a time Arceus was content to look at all he had made, for from everything, from infinity and chaos he had created order and peace for himself, a quiet, empty peace. He considered his creations, the planets, the stars, space and time, and found them good, but lacking, he knew the ins and outs of every single one of them, all moved according to his will, and therefore nothing was new, there was nothing to consider, his cosmos was a toy box, obedient and without any motivation of its own.

    This pleased him little.

He turned to his creations, the ones that lived, the ones that thought, and discussed his lassitude with them. They, however, were quite busy, keep his creation in order so that he would not have to, but as he began to become annoyed at their inability to serve his needs, he came up with a new idea. Clearly what he needed was new life, life without such stringent duties, perhaps life that could create new things as well, things that would interest him, things that would be new to him. So he chose a planet, and filled it with other lives like his own, filled it with Pokémon in a variety of shapes sizes and natures, mad the ground fertile and the water deep and blue, a world of paradise. This he watched for a time, but all who lived there were content and happy, there was little strife, and much joy, and while it was pleasant, none had drive to do much of anything, they were powerful, lords of their land much as he was of his, though being less infinite and having companionship they were rarely as bored.

Still, he had done something wrong. He tried again, and again, a planet that was not so happy, not so easy, another planet that was miserable, but it did not take him too many iterations to realize his error. He was crafting, sculpting every detail of the planet, the people, the minds, the hospitability, and so the patterns were predictable, knowing so totally how they would end, he knew how they would begin. And so he chose a new planet, but there he created very little. He created but four beings.

Lugia, to craft the minds of those who would live, Ho-oh who would make their bodies and see that they were granted life, Kygore to create the seas, and Gorudon to form the land. And that was all; to them he gave a simple instruction. He wanted the world populated, and they could call on him for aid if they needed, but he most desired to see what it was they could create for themselves.

It did not take long, however, for them to need to call upon his aid, for the first portion of the task was establishing landmasses and water ways, to have a world that could be lived upon. This rapidly went awry, as both Kygore and Gorudon were certain that their medium was superior, and they set to fighting, one would build a mountain, the other would wash it away, one would fill a basin, and the other would build it up into a plateau, the world would be drowned, or oversized, or worse long before the two were through, and so Ho-oh and Lugia, not wanting to be forced to resort to open assault of their comrades appealed to Arceus for aid, and in return they were sent Rayquaza, who mediated between the two, helped design the optimal landmasses and bodies of water to keep the peace, and brought atmosphere and air to the planet.

While Kygore and Gorudon, once their squabbling had ended, could do incredible work creating, fine details were not their strengths, and so Lugia set out to create two grand birds to aid in the formation of the new world, one with an immense flame within it that could boil away excess water, or melt away excess land, or soften it so it could be reformed, and the other to help harden the land more quickly, freeze water so it would not crash onto land yet being sculpted, and so on. As Ho-oh reviewed Lugia's designs, he requested a third be made, as well as his own set, but while Lugia's might fly freely over the world as it was created, his would move along it, to grant a different perspective, and to truly appreciate what the lives that would follow would see. Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Suicune, Raikou, and Entei all emerged, the first life created for the new world, though not as proper life, more as the gods they served.

With them granting aid, the creation of the planet quickly came underway, but Gorudon was frustrated time and time again as the six meant to 'aid' him kept doing slight things against his will, and he petitioned Ho-oh and Lugia, either that they get their followers under control, or grant him some of his own so that he could oversee his more careful creations. Not wishing to break the wills of those who served them, Ho-oh and Lugia agreed to form him three grand golems, mighty servants that would be obedient to him. Rayquaza, however, thought this might be unwise, reflecting the trouble that it could cause if Gorudon ever chose to pick a fight with Kygore once more, and so the golems were given a lord of their own, though they still were eagerly obedient in the creation process.

It was during this time their presance on the formative world was joined by a strange anomaly. A mixture of heat and the stuff of the earth, an entity that was strong, but unremarkable except for the fact that none of them had made it, that it had no apparent source. It took not all that long to discover its composition, though, it was the very land they shaped, and much as they moved it with their powers, had some small fragement of it come to life. This, it seemed, was to be the first proper resident of the planet, an existence that pre-dated life, an existence that was not exactly alive, but was a corner of the earth itself made animate.

Arceus watched silently as decades passed, as the world was finally formed by the gods he had made, by the gods they had made in turn.

Once all was made ready, their true task began. Kygore, Gorudon, and the golems moved into the earth and sea to rest, their jobs having ended. Rayquaza withdrew to the sky as well, waiting for a time when the peace between the other two was disturbed. The other gods so at rest, Ho-oh and Lugia began to design life. Having been told of Arceus's error, they created not directly in or near their own image. Two legs, four, winged and not, Ho-oh filled the planet with bodies of ash for plants and animals, Pokémon of all shapes and sizes and plants for them to feed on. Within each he imbued a bit of his own fire, but not, as it did in him, to make them grand and immortal, no, it was to let them grow, to let them form new bodies, it was the first few embers of what would someday be called the light of evolution. He gave it out haphazardly, though with intent, their creations were not to be so equal, there would be no uniformity here. Some would recieve a great deal, so much so that their forms would rapidly advance and change, never truly evolving but at the same time becoming something more, others were given little, far too little to ever truly change. Some of them were great behemoths, and their personal strength was large enough that this lack would never truly be felt, others, though, others were more meek, and with so little of the spark within them, forever meek they would be.

As Ho-oh finished his work, Lugia began, imbuing each body with a mind, a psyche, some carefully tailored, many roughly formed, to form from the stimulus they experienced, to advance and grow into something different from what they started. When all was in place, Lugia asked Ho-oh to grant the final flame of life to all of them, but Ho-oh demurred. That was not his duty, he explained, for there were two who had done little work in creation, because he had them formed for this moment. Lugia paused, uncertain, but the bird of life issued a cry, and the world was consumed in a spark, not of fire, but of electricity. Lightening leapt through all things, jagged, unpredictable bolts granting errant life, and so from the great wings of Zapdos and the mane of Raikou did life begin.

Lugia questioned Ho-oh's methods, and the bird god explained that his fire was too controlled, too absolute, too understood, to make life that was unique to itself the less predictable energy of their creations was preferable, the third step would cause changes and evolution they could not easily predict, and in this way would their lord be pleased.

But they were not pleased by the results. All had come to life, but it seemed stilted. It had minds, it had bodies, it could evolve, but somehow it was less than they, not only in reach and power, but in something else. Something fundamental. They appealed to Arceus, asking him to explain where they had gone wrong, and so he did. Their methods were wise in the creation of things new, things different and unpredictable, but without a direct hand, a divine hand forming the lives, they have failed to include a part that had gone into their direct progeny, and one he had given to all of his.

A soul. The world they had made was soulless.

Lugia was prepared to destroy all and form life anknew, but Ho-oh despaired, not wishing to end all of the creatures they had created, not wanting to end all of those lives, even be they incomplete. Fortunately, Arcues had no desire to wait even longer for them to find a new creation method, and presented them an alternative. The Soul Dew, gems that gave off flecks of the souls that their creations wer so missing. With these at their disposal the solution was simple, they need merely be carried across the planet, and their emissions permitted to rain down upon all that dwelt upon it, invigorating and forming the missing souls. To that end, Lugia and Ho-oh designed two new creatures, one in red, and one in blue, of flight and incredible speed, and they gave them the Dew, setting them free to hurtle about the world to spread souls to all creation. And so it was, and so it was done, and so it was done well, for the creatures were most effective, and the method had an unintended, but interesting side effect. Not all of those that lived below were bequeathed equally with the soul energy, some recieved little, becoming animalistic and most dangerous, while others recieved a great deal, causing them to congregate, to organize, to feel a deeper kinship with them and theirs. This, too, made the world more diverse, and pleased its creators greatly. Once their task was done, the two creatures, the red and the blue, were free to move about the world as they would, and none were more amused and more joyful than they, for their souls had absorbed much of what they carried, and simply overflowed.

And Arceus watched it all, and he was pleased, this world was different, strange and barbaric, a fight for survival amongst disparate beings, of tribes that clung together, and beasts that hunted apart. Those that lived there were created unequal, they were not created the same, but they still struggled for the same resources, the same life. It was new, and so he found this experiment a great success.

As the years went on, though, Ho-oh was nowhere near so pleased, and he confided in Lugia. Their world was too empty of the joy, the respect for life he hoped to nurture, he saw too much pain, and rare was the Pokémon with the ability and wherewithal to heal others. Some had it, some that brimmed with the energy of the soul and intellegence of the mind, it was the most blessed in these intangible gifts that saw the world as he had hoped it would be seen, but he did not want such pleasures, such potentials to be limited to such an elite few. Lugia, on the other hand, found something fascinating about the planet dominated not just by tooth and claw, but also by the intelligence, the cunning of when to apply which, of how to use ones abilities bes to advance onesself. He had to agree, though. The higher echelons of thought were going much unappreciated, discarded in favor of survival instincts and battle tactics. Ho-oh suggested something new. Something that operated more with its mind than its body, something that could learn to heal, to take care of their people. There was a danger, such an entity might come to rule over all else they had created, though they could instead prove to be allies and friends of the rest of creation rather than merely overlords. Lugia considered, and after a time consented, but swore this, if he or those closest to him were ever mistreated, ever disrespected by these entities, he would arise to destroy them all, and two of his followers leapt to swear the same, Articuno and Moltres would permit none of this new race to come against them, but Zapdos swore the opposite, that if in time these creatures of thought made such an error, he would fight the others to give them a chance to survive and repent if necessary. Ho-oh was disturbed by this easy consideration of violence, but still, in the end, he had gained Lugia's co-operation, and so he made something new once more, formed of ashes and water, the spark of life and grand minds. As he worked he realized something, though. This creature would require a special soul, one more uniform and less slap-dash than those of their previous creations. Unable to rely upon the gleeful pair they had so used before, he and Lugia worked together to create three new entities, a trio that drew power from the mind and will of all things, who would act as the creators and guardians for the souls of the new race, and for all other life to come, ensuring that never would any being be left truly empty no matter its birth or formation.

And so humans came to be.

Ages past, and Arceus watched as the gods of the world went to rest, to observe all that they had made without interfering, a well earned break after their long centuries of effort. Arceus watched as humans did, indeed, claim much of the planet, and began to form dominion over the creation around them, and it was then he felt the first stirrings. The first stirrings of jealousy. He had wrought much, wrought all that there was, but in so many ways what was before him was only tangentially of his creation, and that, it seemed, was what made it interesting, what made it good. Even if he had built them with the intent that they do so, those derivative gods had done better than he in creating something new and interesting. The frustration gnawed at him, and in turn at all he had made, unused planets disintegrating as his frustration mounted. After long contemplation, though, he came to his senses. He was too involved, too close to all that was here. He had done well, he had created the spark that became life, interesting life, but he could not get so involved, he made the universe orderly, he had done more than any other, but if he did too much all mine as well be frozen, and so, with a few words to all that had served him, he went to rest as well, cutting a small, fresh dimension for himself to watch this one from, to calmly contemplate as things came to pass, far enough away to not feel invested in it, but not so far away that he could not be reached if needed.

And all was at peace, all was well, or so it seemed.

The first sign of trouble came not overlong after Arceus's exit. Dialga and Palkia began to bicker about, in his absence, which was more powerful, which was more important, which of them was the god of all in the origin's absence. Dialga taunted Palkia about how much had to be done, how much aid he had required to do his job, as Palkia observed that his job was more important, more difficult, and it was because of its difficulty that everything worth happening was now coming to pass. They came to blows for a brief moment, and all that rested within that dimension threatened to come apart under their furious contest. But it was, thankfully, not to be. It took only a little time for each to come to his senses, for them to wonder at their folly, but realizing the danger they had caused they, too, stepped from this dimension, close enough to maintain time and space, but nowhere near close enough to be gods of it in its entirety. Before they left, though, they left fragments of their power in case of a time of great need. An entity that could move through time, and another who could re-shape space, and to the three creatures of the soul, they granted the ability that, together, they could call them forth in times of disaster. And with that they left, and their strange bickering, their strange violent fervor faded away completely.

What they, and even the great Arceus himself did not know, is that in his jealousy Arceus had given rise to a new being. One that did not quite exist, but at the same time could affect things, one that lurked in the thoughts and minds of those who felt jealousy and fear, and waited in nightmares to torment, especially, especially those of that little planet that had so surpassed Arceus's expectations.

Still, this shadow being, this Darkrai found that the further removed from Arceus's direct creation something was, the less he could effect it, and so, though with his influence some humans of the world became more evil and less kind, and many misfortunes were brought forth. He endevoured to bring ruin to the planet he so loathed, but he could never directly cause the disasters he so desired, not working through the entities that lived upon the planet. He aspired to greater ruin, and reached up, hoping to steal away the light of evolution from this world, but he found himself faltering, for Ho-oh's purity was far beyond his touch. As he continued his search for a way to ruin the planet, he found one with a great brooding, of a quite viciousness, and so he came to Lugia, and he he attempted to command and corrupt. This proved to be most unwise, for Lugia was the source of all minds in the world, and there was none more powerful than his. Darkrai was quickly hurled out, and forced to retreat deep into his dream scape, where Lugia could not follow.

The two great birds had long watched the land and wondered what made some of their creations act so strangely, and now, it seemed, they had an answer, they knew not his origin, but they knew what trouble he made, and they both would see him destroyed. And so they crafted once more, a creature of kindness and power meant to counteract and negate completely Darkrai's vicious evil, but though they crafted their best, their new creation could not truly destroy the other, made, as he was, of the will of their creator. Still, though, it moved out into the world, cleansing it of the dark entity's touch were it could, imbuing goodness and removing evil where it could find those with the will to do so.

And so time went, and humans were truly lords of the land. The gods quietly watched as they tamed and controlled Pokémon, as they did, indeed, learn to heal, learn to think about the world, to make art, to make war, to lie, cheat, and steal, and to consider the universe, to consider their origins.

They were not perfect. They were not made to be.

They were made to adventure, to learn, to experience in this world of Pokémon.

Can we design a Pokemon RP? The one that was on the boards died recently as I was able to return to it. And I would love to be part of building that world.

So yeah, I just today found out that there's an attack called Horn Leech. How long has Gen V been out for?

ehhh, it's the signature move of a species that isn't especially popular ingame or competitively.

I always thought the Pokemon theology/creation-myth was for sinnoh only and how groudon/kyogre create land/sea is for hoenn only. Different cultures, different myths. It's how there could be competing pokemon for the same creation position.
I mean, there's really nothing "reality creation" about any of Arceus' moves except for the ones that show it's really pissed off. A really pissed off, powerful pokemon can easily be worshiped in fear as something that created the world.

Except that putting a legendary in a Pokéball weakens it (which is why the villains always try alternate methods of control). And it seems to be missing its mythical thousand arms. And then there's this.

Who says that ingame? 'Cause, I mean, setting aside how all the villains sans Marty Stu use pokeballs, and why Team Rocket invaded Silph Co way back when, the opposite is a repeatable and observable phenomenon do-do-do-do-due to how EVs work.

    And then there's this.
Wait, so all that creepy stalking Cynthia did throughout Diamond and Pearl was because she expected me to lay an egg? I tell you, there's something wrong with that girl.

That is awesome by the original definition...

I had no problem seeing MissingNo. for hundreds of Master Balls, I have no problem abusing glitches to get more power, and I don't think twice about tearing save data apart and reconstructing it to my liking.

    But.

I still feel dirty about covetting away wild pokemon's held items.

Does anyone know what copyright law has to say about Pokemon Online, Shoddy Battle, and similar? I've been thinking of getting a team together to make a similar game (for something else, not Pokemon), but I want to make sure that there'll be more between me and a lawsuit than the blind luck of the company not seeing it.

Hello again! I just wanted to pop back in once more to say that I've recently gotten myself acquainted with a Skill Link Cloyster. And I absolutely love it. Having a Cloyster around is oh, so helpful, as it fits into just about any team that I can set up, and it's probably one of the best leads I have in my ensemble now. I couldn't be happier.

I also got tore apart by a Korean Trick Room team just a few minutes ago. I took out his Reuniclus with little trouble, but once I saw Flame Orb Guts Conkeldurr, I knew I was boned. Although I managed to make a comeback once the Trick Room ran out, my Cloyster was at too low health to even manage against the Haxorus that came out after it.

Oh yeah, also: Follow me in my current Screenshot LP of Pokémon Liquid Crystal! (Now probably a lost cause, since the original thread is over six months old, if not longer!)

    Beat Pokemon White.

now I'm trying to beat Pokemon: Explorers of Time. Dialga is freaking hard.

anyone have any advice for that? particularly for a Skitty-Treecko combo?
I'm also on discord as "raziere".

So, now that I have internet capable of connecting online, what games are the event pokemon given away on? Could I get the Mewtwo someone mentioned at the top of the page on say...SoulSilver? I haven't started my Pokemon Black, and really don't want to rush through to a point that I can access that stuff.

    It's Gen V exclusive.

now I'm trying to beat Pokemon: Explorers of Time. Dialga is freaking hard.

anyone have any advice for that? particularly for a Skitty-Treecko combo?
I think Skitty and Treecko can both learn Dig, so if you have some TMs for it lying around, it can help a lot. It's especially useful for that one turn of invulnerability, which could let you dodge a Roar of Time. Treecko can use Bullet Seed for that 5-hit chain, but that might not be the best against Dialga considering its 4x resistance. If you have any way to boost your speed, like Agility, spamming that until you're at max speed can also let you burst Dialga down before it can use Roar of Time too much. And of course, bring tons and tons of Reviver Seeds, just to be safe.

If you're dying too much on the way up, it might be good to just grind your levels up a bit in the dungeon, and then maybe use an Escape Orb to restart.

I'm afraid that the Playground is not a place for dispensing legal advice, and very few of us are qualified to do so even if it wasn't against the rules and guidelines. Copyright law is a tangled-up mess of tangled-up messes, if you want to be sure of things seek ye a professional.

That said, I'm kinda curious about what kinda game you had in mind. Like, Flash? Game Maker? Java-whatever?
