Re: What I Made, What the GM Saw, What I Played
Oh what the heck, I'll try my hand at this:
What I made:
What the DM saw:
What I played:
Explanation:
SpoilerSo, I created myself a gnome with a serious head for engineering and a robot pal/mount using the Summoner rules from Pathfinder - robot was an eidolon using a homebrewed Construct evolution among other things - at any rate...
DM and party apparently saw this character as "Yet another goofy gnome inventor" even though she was never intended to be at all goofy or anything like that. (Fun yes; but not in the "Oh hahaha my inventions asplode" way)
In the end, before I had to quit due to RL reasons, I was basically Scotty from the original Star Trek - didn't get to use the mount or anything, but I did fix a small spelljammer. So it balanced out.Computer is back! Yay!

I think that fixed it. Changed the images in case the sites prevented linking, hopefully to ones that don't.

Explanation:
SpoilerCharacter was created to try out 3.5 psionics, as a Kineticist. Over the course of the campaign, met the last remaining good god, got Exalted status (with Vow of Poverty) and basically became a Paladin of Bahamut. Except still a Psion. But I couldn't find a good image for that.

Re: What I Made, What the GM Saw, What I Played
For the record, I never thought that of your character, and I got the impression that the GM was trying to make the gnomes in-universe get the idiot bat (admittedly they do as the setting is written) and yours would have eventually have proven the exception to everyone's expectations thanks to your bit if magic.
But yes, everything got the silly bat to some degree in that game, but that's what Spelljammer does. Except when my character got skewered, but he got better. After losing about five fights since the forum hates my rolls.Spako Highclaws by Ceika.

Re: What I Made, What the GM Saw, What I Played
Spoiler: What I Made, What the GM Saw, What I Played...
Commentary...
SpoilerThe original concept of my most recent D&D wizard was to be a younger version of Galdolf the Gray with a horse familiar. We'd be companions on an adventure with a group to provide wisdom and arcane buffing.
The DM of the game kept egging me to make my horse a pony instead and for the human to be a very young wizard, complete with a bunch of "My Little Pony" references on both sides so that the two characters were essentially the same thing.
In the end I created Sparks as an apprentice wizard with a very roguish style, while his familiar Freya was a brave little pony who wanted to be a heroic warhorse when she grew up. This was one of those times where the rework was much better than the original concept.

Re: What I Made, What the GM Saw, What I Played
Battletech campaign.
Spoiler
Context:
Apparently when he said "Battletech RPG", what he actually meant was "a narrative framework for Mech fights". Kind of a problem if you're just a guy in battle armor.

What I made:
Spoiler

Spoilercrossed with the former
What I am playing:
Spoiler
Explanation:
SpoilerNatalia Bolts, AKA Nuts, is a rogue/swashbuckler/trapsmith who wants to be a wizard but was never trained. Nobody wanted her to learn magic because she has severe expressive dysphasia and can't even say a complete sentence without trailing off or using broken words or odd metaphors. She's obsessed with electricity, traps, and mechanical devices and has many, many different blueprints of devices in her bags. She's obsessed with touching things, probably because her synesthaesia manifests itself so she can feel colors. She's absolutely devoted to her friends because she had so few growing up. Really, this doesn't start to describe it. Natalia can be just plain strange.
Oh, and in battle when she's not scared out of her mind she's a dual-wielding, sneak attacking machine. And yes, she's small for a human and has max ranks in Tumble, so she's well trained in Waif Fu.
Essentially she started out as a cross between Wiress and Luna Lovegood, and is now a cross between Wiress and River Tam.Last edited by CoffeeIncluded; 2013-11-12 at 11:27 AM.

Re: What I Made, What the GM Saw, What I Played
I one time tried out the Alchemist class in Pathfinder and went on to try and make a mad scientist out of it.
Spoiler: What I Saw, What DM Saw, What I Played
Spoiler: ExplanationThe character had a bit of a tragic backstory involving the death of his loved one that was supposed to make him crazy. Instead, the DM saw it as something that would inspire him to be a better person and humble him. And while I tried to play up the insanity of my character, I ended up no more evil and crazy than Doctor Horrible.Last edited by Havic1137; 2013-11-18 at 04:21 PM.

Re: What I Made, What the GM Saw, What I Played
Love this thread!
Here's a DM's variant of a campaign that I ran last year:
Spoiler
Explanation: Siege involving pirates led by an old, angry military baddy looking for revenge. The party is the only hope of defending the town of roughly 60 people from a combined force of over 200, including sahuagin and giants. Scenario was meant to play out until the cavalry could arrive from other coastal towns. Party ended up taking the fight to the general. In EPIC fashion.

Re: What I Made, What the GM Saw, What I Played
Oh that is a good one Dovahkiin.
I made a villainous minor NPC that was designed t be a sub-plot/side plot if we needed a break from main game, or if the players took interest in the stuff surrounding this guy(how did he do the crimes etc.)
SpoilerWhat I Made
Spoiler
What the Players Saw
Spoiler
What Happened When They Tried to Fight Him Cause Out of Character One Guy Hates Anime(despite the only anime thing being hair colour)
SpoilerTPK, couldn't find a good image. Please note they were doing something else and this guy was background/side-plot, and the only people interested in him was the guy who wanted to kill him for being anime
Explanation
-I made a crazed psychotic his only power is he adds the powers of those he fights too his own. And he took interest in the party; wasn't going to kill them just was following them.
-Group saw a super-powered psycho whose Fae connection gave him green hair, and immediately saw anime(despite the fact one of them had purple spiky hair, and to be honest all of them were more anime in design)

Re: What I Made, What the GM Saw, What I Played
Made an account for this :P
Spoiler: What I Made, What the GM Saw, What I Played
Spoiler: ExplanationGot tired of being the face of the party. Joined a Ravenloft Pathfinder campaign, and made a monk who swore at a Hag and was cursed to only speak gibberish Binary. Sent off to be schooled at a monk order- only made her a jerk with kung-fu skills. Her father couldn't arrange a marriage with anyone when she could talk, but when she couldn't scare people off anymore he got a big lummox for her and she ran away from home, wound up in Ravenloft, etc.
Got through meeting the party, acting snarky with only binary. DM sees only the monk with disease immunity coming to help the town, Paladins are praising her skill, she's kicking zombie butt and yelling "Scoreboard" only no one can understand it and thinks she's just really into helping people.
Tengu party-face convinces DM that "can choose any language as a bonus language" really does mean ANY language, and takes Binary after we save the first town. Only character in the world I can talk to makes him the center of every terrible thing I say. Every conversation I'm threatening the people we're talking to, wondering aloud how much stuff I could steal without people noticing, with only the Tengu able to hear and trying to keep a poker face through the whole thing

Re: What I Made, What the GM Saw, What I Played
Spoiler: Image
Built a Warblade for D&D 3.5 working from the concept "generic shonen fantasy protagonist." Greatsword, spiky hair, Power of Friendship, tragic backstory, calls his attacks, the whole shebang. The DM assumed that I was going to roleplay him in silly fashion and seemed eager to play along, but so far he's been more of a deadpan snarker with baggage and a heart of gold that occasionally shows through. I am trying to work in some character development to make him more hot-blooded, though, so we'll see how that goes.

Re: What I Made, What the GM Saw, What I Played
Spoiler
Spoiler: ExplanationMade a Longspear wielding Arcane Duelist with the Flagbearer feat. GM saw a less useful Bard lacking Bardic Knowledge and Versatile Performance. Due to her code of honour and tendency to be the first to charge into battle banner aloft, she's basically ended up being a cross between Battle Herald and Paladin, doling out the damage and buffing the rest of the party as well.

Re: What I Made, What the GM Saw, What I Played
Spoiler
Spoiler: ExplanationI made Ruuska Torrengust, a full Orc paladin, mostly because I wanted to and my crazy brain had already elaborately backstoried his unusual existence. Now I knew he'd be taking a hit to his INT but when I was told we were using POINT BUY -throws up- well... In order to make him an effective paladin I had to cut his INT to 5, which made him so very, very stupid, hence what the GM saw. However, it is this stupidity that is my greatest triumph, in a way. Ruuska is not only unable to pronounce "Paladin", "Sarenrae", or most other three syllable words, but is also unable to plan. He can't think out a plan, he can't understand planning. If he is informed of evil, he goes to thwart it. There is no stealth, there is no plan, there is no thought, there is only "STOP ALL EVIL!", hence the third image. Example: Technologically advanced Dwarves are trying to take over a medieval world and turn everyone into what is essentially cybermen. Well, Ruuska came across a lab with his party housing two gun-mechs and a cyborg Dwarf. After one-hitting both gun-mechs, he inspects the cyborg (which was currently deactivated, a touch sensor was to turn it on we found out) but, unable to understand or comprehend the concept of a cyborg, all Ruuska saw was a man riddled with metal and clearly hurt! So he picks up the dwarf and starts carrying him to town to get him help, as he activates, starts kicking and screaming, and failing checks to break loose. The wizard of the party cast Enlarge Person on Ruuska and convinced him to hold the poor guy down while he pulled a successful Knowledge Engineering to shut him down. This guy was supposed to be our BOSS FIGHT, and Ruuska simply carried him away. He might be dumb as rocks but I'll definitely be able to roleplay this guy into getting things done!

Re: What I Made, What the GM Saw, What I Played
Spoiler: The Picture
Spoiler: ExplanationI unabashedly set out to recreate kerrigan with an Abyssal Exalt. Force of personality, psychic powers, a little bit vengeance crazy, hive mind with her undead underlings, and proficient with razor sharp bone weapons growing out of every limb (including some skeletal wing like limbs not present on the normal human body). I ran it by the ST, and he looked at her and saw psychic powers, crazy, and all about the blood sucking and assumed I was making Drusilla. I guess he missed the hive mind and razor limbs. So we did a little practice back and forth, and I wound up being Alucard. From the abridged series. Psychopathic manchild who conducts evil when he's bored because of lack of adventure time.
Not clear I'll get to really really play this character, but first time that I've been able to put together a What I Made, so what the heck. Good times.
