She became all ridiculous about how I can't possibly be both Lawful Good and completely lacking in a drive to charge headfirst at evil/go out seeking evil to fight, despite the fact that my character got to where he was by game's start because he basically got his status reduced to property to save a random child he never met. So she basically tried to pigeonhole me into doing all that (doing things like giving random guards +30 Sense Motive modifiers, etc.) It didn't work well.

I made a shy, awkward character who managed to find an ideology justifying and even exalting shyness. However, the GM saw a black mecha pilot who seemed like she might stabilize the group. What I've actually ended up playing is a fairly clever, rather aloof woman who is a bit too inclined to use her skill with computers, that I had really only picked because it's necessary for mecha pilots in Mutants and Masterminds, to achieve her ends.

I wanted to play a Fighter/Dread Pirate and I put down that I had a large sized Rapier for lols because I rolled a good Strength and Dex score and and took Power Attack. Which my DM goaded me for making Cloud with a different weapon...

And then, as if to screw with me, my DM plot-hooked my group into a non-seafaring adventures into a desert, and my character kinda went a little loopy due to heat stroke and failed saves...[picture Cloud in his wheelchair]

After his recovery, I switched from "Great Rapier" to a Hasted oversize 2-handed adamantium sword build and started to 1 shot anything with some Charge+full attack feat another player suggested...made the spell casters feel more like the janitors, cleaning up the mooks / BBEG's blood stains.

Thankfully, the DM quit after 2 adventures in the desert and another one of my friends took over running the game and we switched to nWoD. I think it was because I was hogging the spotlight far too much...

Effectively, I just wanted to make a melee bardadin, nice guy, go around singing and smiting evil with Charisma-boosted swordfighting. We were playing in Forgotten Realms and I decided "hey, a Paladin of Sune will be fun!" hence the DM's impression. Then we get to actual playing and my character has to start physically manhandling people to keep them on task...

My wife is playing a half-crazy Roma-esque Warlock who gets periodically possessed by Mystra and/or an ancient sapient tome of necromancy.

Another guy plays a Halfling Wizard with a Rod of Wonder.

And then there's the NPC pseudodragon.

There is just a lot of general dopeslapping when one of them is about to break the Weave or something.

TMI further explanation of "GM saw":

For fairness, I should admit my DM has a point, since I just solved a quest by rocking a Copper Wyrm's world so hard she went and solved it for me (she had several other reasons, too, but a natural 20 on an unlisted skill check is what got her out of her comfy lair to go beat up an Adult Red Dragon we'd ticked off earlier).

(And before you start objecting to this, Polymorph.)

I've been wanting to contribute to this thread for a long time but I couldn't think of which images to use until now. So here are two of my characters, one past and one present:

This was for a steampunk game set in an alternate version of the 1920's or 30's (I forget exactly when).

The character I designed was a retired British army intelligence officer turned butler to the party's resident mad scientist. I had designed him to be pretty competent at a lot of things. The only thing he really didn't share with Bond was the latter's compulsive womanizing.

"What the GM saw" is pretty self-explanatory I think, since that's exactly who the word butler conjures to the minds of most people I know.

Sinclair ended up becoming ridiculously good at just about everything, and was the party's resident powerhouse because he wielded a sword that was actually a holy relic we pilfered from a church.

And this one is for a Star Wars Saga campaign that I'm currently in.

One of the other players wanted to play a Sith based on Nobunaga Oda, specifically as he's portrayed in the Samurai Warriors video games. I thought I'd keep the theme so I built my character off of Masamune Date since I didn't want to be one of his retainers and thus subservient.

I ended up building him as a bit more of a schemer though, and in the end focused most of his abilities on non-combat things like social skills and disabling Force powers. Really all the resemblance he bears to Masamune anymore is in his fighting style, dual-wielding blasters and occasionally pulling out a lightsaber. Well, that and the fact he's missing an eye. Over the course of the game, he's turned his fortune into a burgeoning criminal empire, and begun destabilizing the local government of his home planet in a bid to eventually usurp the authority along with the other players and set himself up as the power behind the throne. From there we're turning our attentions to the rest of the galaxy, but that's still a ways off yet.

    Explanation:

I made a fairly basic Druid, going into a low-level game with quite a few people new to D&D. I was mostly using Entangle and such as we pottered around the countryside after kobolds (Including a time where it allowed our rag-tag bunch of morons to chip an Owl Bear to death while being level 1).

My animal companion wolf was mostly running around flanking, killing one or two kobolds every now and again... but then it became that the wolf didn't fear anything. At all. It's shrugged off about 20 attempts at paralysis on in, numerous fear effects, poisons, survived an attack with 1hp then killed it's attacker. So on and so forth.

And now we've gone underground and are mostly fighting undead. The sort of situation a level 3 Druid is utterly terrible in, but one in which a Large-Sized Wolf that doesn't seem to fail Saves ever is utterly destroying everything.

If I guess correctly he was playing an archivist and the DM just saw a cleric by another name. Not a long jump if 3.5 was the system he was talking about.

You must have an enormous monitor then, if it takes 5,259px × 3,349px to surpass it. O.o

Had an idea which I thought would be funny, an outcast Dwarf that specializes in potions: alchemical, magical, and mundane. Made a Dwarven Wizard with all crafting skills, Still Spell, and Exotic Armor Proficiency Mountain Plate.
    DM sees: Warrior-Wizard.
I played: Dwarf Mage blows things up, kills things with axes and hammers, enchants his own stuff, and carves Dwarven Strongholds by binding elementals. Ends up a Mountain King renowned for his (false) martial prowess (True Strike), Magical Abilities (Scrolls, mostly), Selflessness (Accidentally saved his people from cataclysm after being exiled), and Honor (He never got caught). ends up having some Dwarves that love him call him their king, and others that fear him call him their king. Others he kills. King on the Mountain. (Specially built garden of splendors on top of tallest peak.)

    I also enjoy gnomes:
What I made: Half-Drow Tinker Gnome Rogue (20 Int, 18 Charisma, crappy pretty much everything else, thinks she's a Drow 'princess' that was cursed with diminutive height).

*Edit: explanation: I had a high AC, and a decent dexterity. I had all of the standard rogue skills, and took things like... nimble fingers, and stealthy from FR and Faerun. I got my spider climb ring, a cloak of elven kind, boots of elven kind, masterwork thieves tools, potions of reduce person, that kind of thing. I get my size down to diminutive with a greater reduce person potion, and start climbing the bed (using climbing gear) only to fall off of the bed, and hit the floor (which nearly kills me) The sleeping person I am about to kill hears that noise, and begins getting up only to almost step on me repeatedly by accident, until he spots me, and starts chasing me with a broom like a rat (which at this point would have killed me in one hit).
