How Nale thinks to use a gate?
To control a gate and make it do something useful, you need to know a proper ritual. Redcloak knows it thanks to the crimson mantle, and Xykon is chasing the gates because of that.
Nale is also chasing the gates, but he don't know the ritual. In fact, he knows almost nothing useful on them. And there is some very powerful magic working there. I dare say ZZd'tri stands no chance of doing anything useful with a portal, even if they set for some minor goal.
So why is nale chasing the gates so hard? Do he knows some other way to control the gates? Did sabine manipulated him into going for the gates, because her masters of the ifcc can use a gate? Maybe he just think he can blackmail the world by threatening to destroy a gate?
Being nale a careful planner as he is, the idea that he's risking everything to conquer a gate without knowing what to do with it is unlikelyIn memory of Evisceratus: he dreamed of a better world, but he lacked the class levels to make the dream come true.
Ridiculous monsters you won't take seriously even as they disembowel you

Re: How Nale thinks to use a gate?
Sabine learned about the gates after Nale did, and she reported it to director Lee. Why go after it? Because he knows his Fathers ultimate plan and intends to one-up it. Those two seem a lot like Phillip of Macedon and ALexander the Great. How will he use the gate? He doesn't know how to use it, as far as we know, so he will probably use it as a bargaining chip.

He wants to secure the gate. Then, he will figure out what to do with it.

Re: How Nale thinks to use a gate?
All Nale really says is "There's a ritual to control the Snarl." He doesn't know it, but he knows who does. "I've worked with these people before. You won't get it from them without me."
Who does Nale mean? The IFCC, or Xykon? Someone else? The Giant says: Yes, I am aware TV Tropes exists as a website. ... No, I have never decided to do something in the comic because it was listed on TV Tropes. I don't use it as a checklist for ideas ... and I have never intentionally referenced it in any way.

Re: How Nale thinks to use a gate?
Xykon. He's the one Nale has knowingly worked for. Way back in the Linear Guild's original introduction, they were mercenaries hired by Xykon. Who has naturally forgotten all about them by now, but still, it was a bluff that wasn't technically a lie, which is a big thing with every villain in this comic, Nale especially.

Who thinks he'll end up breaking much like Elan broke the first? Or maybe he'll actual do something with it. Would be very interesting in terms of their opposites.

Re: How Nale thinks to use a gate?
All Nale knows is that the Gates are enormously powerful artifacts that have the potential to allow him to rule the world. That's all he really needs to know!

He also knows Elan wants it. That alone would be reason enough to secure it for himself.

Re: How Nale thinks to use a gate?
You can't really study something you can't observe, so Nale's trying to capture one so he can study it as much as he needs to, I'd assume.
He probably figures if he captures a Gate, that implies all other contenders for the Gates are down, and since this is such a big secret and something the gods swore not to interfere with, he's not exactly painting a target on himself until after he takes over the world.

Re: How Nale thinks to use a gate?
Personally from what I know of Nale I find it believable that more then he thinks to secure it first and then figure how to use it, he never even thought that far ahead of what to do with it.

Re: How Nale thinks to use a gate?
If you're trying to convince us that Nale's big plan has a flaw and won't work, you needn't bother - we're already familiar with that phenomenon.
