Okay, minor report time. My no armor, no magic, no potion, no shouting, no looting (!) two-handed meleeist challenge apparently evened out the playing field for the NPCs for quite a bit. Restless Draugr become epic bossfights, and normal Draugr aren't complete mooks either. Though it's only the low levels yet, things are a good lot more balanced than my first normal no-holds-barred play.

The werewolf form has no armor. I'd not use it at all.

Or did you mean the enemy is the werewolf? I'm not familiar with the Azura's Star quest.

Are destruction spells affected by armor? Because I am fighting a group of Dremora mages+ Malyn, also a mage. The story behind the quest is you have to go inside Azura's Star to kill Malyn, and if you do, you get the Black Star (or the normal star, but I am aiming for the black star) which acts as an undestroyable Black Soul Gem.

Go in with a lot of health potions. Also, go directly for him and run away from the Dremora.

If you were playing a Breton, you could always turn on your "absorb magic lol" power. Failing that, use all the potions and stuff you can spare to get your resistances high. Also, a shield with the elemental something perk would help a lot against destruction magic.

Apart from those... hmm. Drink an invisibility potion, go near the mage and try to stunlock him with power attacks? Or if you're a mage yourself, doublecast an apprentice spell to, again, stunlock him.

Also, playing first person shooter against the mages with a bow/staff/spell and some cover would work too.

And if all else fails, fus lol dah?

I am confused by this game:

In my quest log, there was a misc quest that had me go to the Sleeping Tree Camp to search for a hammer. Found the hammer in the chest in the cave. Now the quest has vanished and I don't have the slightest clue how I got the quest and why. I assume it's a treasure I found a hint for, but I looked at google and Elder Scrolls Wiki, but I don't find any trace of this quest existing.
Are the random treasure hunt quests?

It's a radiant quest. Usually they're gotten off of notes. I remember one of my characters was sent off to find the "Sword of Souls", which was just an iron longsword with soultrap. It was a nice find at level 5, but still nothing "questworthy".

I defeated azura's star by summoning dremoras from sanguine's rose. I have to be honest, if not for that, I'd be stuck as well. Thank god that I finished that quest first, and I kept lugging that staff for 'just in case.'

No, I never even touched smithing. Crafting is one of the dumbest things ever put into single player games, it doesn't serve any purpose but spending some additional hours looking at menus without any benefit.

I like to have the Sanguine Rose for no reason other than because the Dremora Lord it summons is much stronger than other summons. Plus it's capable of holding things down while I archer them, or helping Lydia keep them busy so I can ignite them when I'm a wizard.

My current equipment set has capped out Armor, caps out my Magic Resistance, is muffled (soundless), significantly increases my lockpicking, and has 8 slots for reducing magic school costs by 29% per slot. My one-handed sword does 185 points of damage before enchants, and while I think that includes my perks the next one I make will be even better (my alchemy wasn't capped).

I can see all three sides. First, it is a bit strong. After bit of effort your armor is strong enough to make dragons CRY. Second, it does add a lot of extra work to the game and gives you a bunch of menus to scroll through. Third, it's useful for Role-Playing purposes.

I mean, I have a character who uses only what he personally has smithed himself. Lydia gets his cast offs and the miscellaneous junk he finds, which is how she ended up in Ebony Boots and Shield, Dwarven Armor and a Leather helmet with Orcish Gauntlets.

Now, does someone going for pure power care? No. They want smithing to be as strong as possible, and that's fine.

On the other hand, it's no challenge at all to get to the end of the game wearing only what you've found, or taken off of dead enemies. I like it being in the game because it's that many more options. It's one of the reasons I hate that we lost custom spells.

Dragons really don't need a reason to cry, though, unless you got some mod to turn them the other way.

You're kinda missing the point. It's not dumb in-game wise, since in almost any game with crafting, crafting will basically give you better things than things you get.

It's annoying out-of-game, since it's basically there to pad the game and distract you from the fun stuffs to get you collect ingredients for the crafting (which is boring), and then make you sit through boring lines of menus for ages, ages that can be spent to do fun stuffs like adventuring or killing stuffs. And moreso, if you ever want to have the good stuffs, you have to do crafting.

But still, I love customizing stuffs. That's why I always like making custom spells and equipments in elder scroll games, and why I'm rather annoyed that they limit the customization even further in skyrim.

I may not be missing the point you think I am For some of us, and I know this will sound weird to some, crafting is *part* of the fun. To me, going through another tomb and fighting another undead deathlord is the boring part I have to plow through to get to the good stuff.

Keep in mind the /humor tag in my post, otherwise we're splitting semantic hairs about the phrases "dumbest", "doesn't serve any purpose" and "without any benefit". There is a purpose, there is a benefit, but if it bores you? That's a question of taste, and one every player is welcome to.
