He nods "yes" and the two of you take the passage. It is narrow with smooth walls. It comes to a dead end where there is a wall with small holes in it and runes covering it.

Ask Chauncy if he can read the runes, while I search the holes in the wall. (1d20)[8]

[INWranger]

He nods. While you search the holes you find nothing except another passage on the other side, but the wall is still there until Chuancy says something and the door opens. You find that you are close to the entrance.
Take 800 XP if you haven't already.

Get out my dagger and use it to poke in the holes to see if anything is stuck in them (1d20)[14]

[INWranger]

There is nothing in them as far as you can tell. Chuancy motions for you to follow him through the exit.

I follow him, then take the lead.

[INWranger]

You go outside. By now the sun is getting low. The celestial you met earlier is waiting and asks if all went well. Chuancy nods and the celestial gives you a small package no bigger than your thumb.

Bow and thank him for the (presumably) hair. Escort Chauncy to his home. When convenient, ask if he might perhaps know where I could find some lion fish.

He still ins't talking coherently and his nephew asks him if he used the circlet of remembrance again, which he nods to. The nephew then gives you directions to the Gully of Awry Magic. By now it is dark-ish.

If there isn't an inn nearby, ask if its okay to stay with them. Otherwise, venture off to look for someplace to stay. Either way, replenish my spells in the morning and head off to the Gully.

[INWranger]

There are several inns. You are still in the big city. You find one that looks decent and while mingling downstairs you think you see someone familiar, but they are gone before you realize who they are.

Wonder if they are from the mercenary group I had the run in with. Head to The Gully in the morning.

When you get to the gully you can see why it is called the Gully of Awry Magic. Everywhere there are strange plants, fires that burn but don't spread, frost that remains even in the face of fire, animals that are part one thing and part another, even a zombie in a butlers rig that is holding a tray of tea. As you travel further down the gully in search of a place where there might be fish you find a stream. Part of it for about 50 feet rises out of the stream bed about 10, yet continues to follow the bed. While you marvel at this sight a sphinx approaches you.

Bow to the sphinx and offer greetings.

[INWranger]

The sphinx accepts your greetings. then asks what something normal is doing here, where nothing is normal.

Besides expanding my horizons, I am looking for a particular creature, a lion fish.

[INWranger]

A clue I will give you, if you can tell me who your shadow is. Looks like you, but is your opposite. Was behind, but lost you and is now in front.

After a long pause of consideration (and a wisdom check (1d20+3)[19]), volunteer - Cheyane, the dwarven lass?

Correct sir. Follow the stream past the end of the lake. Turn around and you will see what you seek.

Bow, thanking the sphinx, and then follow the given directions, with my weapons stowed, but ready to draw my dagger if danger should threaten.

The gully widens out a little bit and the vegetation gives way to weird cattails and marsh grass. Up ahead you hear a beautiful song being sung. Make a will check.

The song is absolutely beautiful and you follow it through water and mud, past piles of bones until you see the most gorgeous combination of woman and bird possible. You continue towards it until you are five feet from it, when you stop. She then attacks you

As she continues singing she goes to attack you again, when an arrow buries itself in her throat, and the singing turns to gurgling. She is still up and attacks again.

You can't use a total defense action as you were charmed. However the charm effect wears off just as you realize she is trying to kill and eat you.
