Re: Tools of Chaos
You are already in your tree, but whatever. You find 500 gold in the satchel as well as a rolled piece of parchment.
Here is the message on the parchment, should you choose to open it.
SpoilerCongratulations hunter, you have successfully eliminated Odegard Greenpants. Your next target is a capture or kill. Brian Dratsmansen. He has stolen documents belonging to the armorers guild of Sacharin. There is a bonus for this contract which is time sensitive. Recover and return the documents before he sells them and you gain a 500 gold bonus, in addition to the 200 for him. If you cannot do this then the reward will only be for his capture or death.

Re: Tools of Chaos
Interesting. Well, there isn't much I can do about anything until the storm abates, so pocket the gold and the scroll, and keep waiting.

Re: Tools of Chaos
The storm abates in a couple hours and the sun comes out. It is now towards the end of the day, about 4 in the afternoon and you still have a couple miles to Three Rivers.

See if I can find a place to sleep, and try to get the general mood of the town.

Re: Tools of Chaos
There are any number of places to stay, about 3. everybody seems to know everybody and they respond well to your presence. As you come into town you cross the Odegard Memorial bridge. It seems to be a town full retired adventurers and their current students, with the people that support such enterprises.

Choose the tavern that seems to have the oldest clientele.

Re: Tools of Chaos
That would be the Tankard of Glory. Inside there are people with the look of adventurers, though far behind their prime. You hear snippets of many stories being told, all of them of past quests, both successes, and encounters where they were lucky to get away. There are younger people, most of them trying to learn as much as they can. For the most part things look fairly sedate, more due to the fact that everybody knows what they are doing in a fight, but don't feel like starting one.

Re: Tools of Chaos
The best smith in town is an elf named Elray, absolutely deadly weapons and excellent armor. You hear various things about other smiths in the village, but when a dwarf smith comes up there seem to be two of them. One of them is Kerfka, who does excellent work on standard items. The other is Rothgar who has a reputation as someone who never settled at all, but is an expert on heavy armor, as long as he doesn't throw you out first.

Re: Tools of Chaos
Angus files that information away in his brain. I wonder if Elray could lay an enchantment on my sword, he says to himself. Bidding his fellows goodnight and paying his tab at the bar, Angus retires for the evening.

The night was probably pretty boring, but you slept through the whole thing, so how would you know?

Re: Tools of Chaos
Yawning and scratching his beard, Angus wakes up to welcome the day, spending the appropriate amount of time paying homage to Kord.
After breakfast Angus decides to pay a visit to Rothgar and try to determine if he was friends with Chamille.

Re: Tools of Chaos
With a little asking around you are able to find Rothgars shop. It has bits of plating strewn about and several half finished mechanisms of odd types laying around. Against one wall the work area is much cleaner. this is where the forge and the smithing work looks like it is done. A dwarf just shorter than you asks gruffly, what do you want?

Re: Tools of Chaos
I heard you are the most knowledgeable armor smith around, and I hoped you might impart some of your knowledge of armor lore.

Re: Tools of Chaos
Everybody says Elray be the most knowledgeable smith around on armor. They be right, and he doesn't come cheap. I be a specialist on heavy armor, but don't use the special voodoo he do. What do ye really want?

Re: Tools of Chaos
I was commissioned to find the armor of Chamille Bluehelm. If such armor were ever found, what properties might it have and who would want it?

Re: Tools of Chaos
I don't know. I know where Chamille went last, but I won't tell you. She was my friend and I want to know what happened. Only a true dwarf will I tell. Unless you can beat me in one of two traditional dwarven contests, which I have not had a worthy opponent for in many years then you aren't a true dwarf.

I don't care if you are a cleric of Banjo. You may choose, drinking or arm wrestling.

Arm wrestling, and then win or lose, I'll give my best go at drinking you under the table.

Re: Tools of Chaos
He laughs and says: This is good. Now let us arm wrestle.
Make a strength check.
For an old smith, he is incredibly strong.
