[Nexus] Harnel's Plots

"That wasn't my question, Durmond," Harnel says, smiling, "Can you tell me how it works?" He's always sort of disliked it when people told him what they thought he wanted to hear, rather than answering his question. He asks the questions for a reason, dammit.

[Shadowcaller]

"I know very little about clocks but from what I have seen there are little wheels inside it which turns so the hands move to show the current time. Now will you tell me why you're asking this?" He replies.

[Halae]

[Zeppelin Tower]

"Neither of us could build something like this, but it's not terribly different from the concept of magical formulae. If you want to learn something, you talk to those who know or find their notes.. What I'm talking about is an exchange of knowledge. I've seen machines that think for themselves, no magic involved at all, because their design is so incredibly complex. The sword is another similar concept; a bit of understanding, rather than simply rejecting it out of hand, might have made the difference in regards to your reaction to the item."

"Magic? That's peasant terms for things that don't exist except in this nexus of yours. I'm not sure how to explain this but things there don't work at the same principle as they do here. It would ruin what little understand we have of the world completely if we start to invite other sets of understandings into this." The lord replies. "As I stated before, chaos, there would be no theory which could possibly unite all this things except just saying 'magic' like that would explain it all." He says with a dismissive gesture.

"Quite. We don't practice their systems and they don't practice ours. It's fairly simple. Hestopia don't need the nexus, no civilization in this world does. The sooner that rift is sealed the better so we can concentrate on other problems." Kobe agrees and by the look of it Amanda does too.

"You're missing my point. This is not magic. This is not eldritch, aether, or what have you. It's merely technology; whirring gears and electronic readouts. And this isn't even getting into the medical knowledge you could take from this. Have you come across a disease you couldn't explain? Or one that you couldn't cure? Ten to one odds, there's ways to do both."

[Shadowcaller]

This time it's Kobe's turn to talk. "Once we open ourselves up for that it's just a question of time before more things start to flood into our society from the nexus. We could hardly be able to keep it a secret forever after all. People will want to go there, they would want to take things from it here and from there things will spiral out of control. Inferior nexus cultures would flood our world beyond repair and before we know it, it would be just as chaotic as it. Which is why we must close the rift as soon as possible before people start to get dangerous ideas about how to use it. That is all." He then falls silent as if that was the end of the argument and looking at the two others, it just as well be.

[Zeppelin Tower]

Harnel goes about putting his things back into his rucksack, "Well, I'm honestly sorry you feel that way. There's a lot to be learned. Just keep in mind that many people won't see it the same way." He shrugs, not really seeming disappointed. Some people are just stubborn.

[Zeppelin Tower]

"We know." Durmond says bitterly. "Some just won't see the coming disaster if we let it stay open."

Then the group fall very silent and it becomes pretty obvious Harnel is the source of this. The nobles are just too polite to simply ask him to leave.

[Halae]

[Zeppelin Tower]

Now this, Harnel does pick up on, "Thank you again for paying for the voyage, Lord Kobe. As I said, I'll make sure to pay you back once I've worked out the exchange rate for gold coins to crowns."

And with that, Harnel will find a place to sit away from the group so that he can wait for the airship to arrive.

"Of course, enjoy your trip." Kobe tells him while the other two mutters their farewells to the half-dragon.

Once the airship arrives and Harnel get's on board, they pretty much avoid him for the rest of the trip. Except greeting him politely whenever they happen to come across him.

Arriving in Hestopia isn't unproblematic either as a group of mages come to met him as he walks off the ship. "Excuse me, but you are Harnel Mithar, correct?" And elderly woman in the group asks him.

Harnel doesn't go out of his way to antagonize the group; they had different viewpoints, that didn't make them his enemies. He'll keep his gloves on the entire time, to keep from disturbing people. It feels very odd to roll onto your back and not have any wings or tail there to deal with.

But when he's stopped upon getting off the ship, he says, "Yes, that's right. Can I help you?"

"Yes, we have been sent to escort you around the city by courts. For protection." She replies. "I hope you understand, it's for your own safety."

[Halae]

[Zeppelin Tower]

Harnel nods, "While it's appreciated that the courts would be looking out for me in such a way, I'm going to have to decline your services.. I can adequately protect myself if it comes down to that, and I always feel uncomfortable when someone has to follow me around."

The mages look at each other. "I insist." The speaker replies. "I am Tara Skyridg a senior captain in the eldritch guard and this is my city so please trust me that I know how to run things. We won't be in the way, just deal with your business as usual and I promise you your visit will be pleasant." She ensures the half-dragon. It sounds like she don't really care about his opinion in this matter.

All of sudden a young man dressed in a green robe and cowl approaches the gathering. His raven hair, blue eyes and general appearance might give Harnel a clue who he's related to. "Hey, I came just in time. There have been a change of plans. By the order of the archlord. I'm supposed to be his 'guide'. I got the order right here." He hurries to get a piece of paper out of his pocket which he hands to Tara and then turns his attention to the half-dragon. "Nice to finally met you. I'm Methil Mithar, your brother-in-law."

"Methil! It's good to finally meet you! I was just going to hire a guide, but I certainly like this arrangement. Apologies, Miss Skyridg; the guide I wanted was either someone I knew or someone I had picked out myself. I mean no offense towards you," Harnel nods in her direction, "I was going to come and see you today anyways. Shall we head to the manor?"

The woman grunts as she stares at the note, "Everything seems to be in order. I guess he's yours." She says before simply walking off with the other mages in tow.

The young man chuckles at Harnel's request, "I'm afraid the manor is fairly empty at the moment. Just a couple of servants tying up the place. But come, you can stay with me. I got a house in the middle of the city." He offers before slowly taking the stairs down the platform.

It's not a very busy day, the weather is pretty poor with light snowfall and grey skies overhead. Not really the ideal time to visit.

"It's just for gatherings then?" Harnel asks, "I've never understood the idea of keeping separate homes," Harnel will nonetheless follow Methil down the stairs, "You seem to be doing well. I trust things are going properly here? How was your trip?"

[Shadowcaller]

[Zeppelin Tower==>Snowy Streets]

"I have actually been in Hestopia a few weeks now, but yes, the trip went fairly well. It was just pretty dull and I was sick for most of the journey." He admits. "So if you don't mind me asking, why are you hiding your true appearance? I have been told you most certainly didn't at the wedding."

"Well, the last time I was here a lot of people felt uncomfortable with my appearance, and it's a lot easier to find clothing that doesn't make room for wings and a tail," Harnel says, "But beyond that, I need to get to Arcadia, to steal something from the winter fey, and a wise man once said that all warfare is based on deception. I'm stronger than I look, sure, but if I'm like this they don't know I can fly, breath fire and wield three swords as well. It's also a good test; Half-dragons aren't accepted in the least in my homeworld, but at least here I won't be hunted for my appearance if the magic fails for some reason."

"Big plans, I heard the winter fey steal and eat little children. Not something I would rush in to encounter on my own. Aren't you going to take anyone with you? As your brother in law, it feels like I should be worried." He replies with a faint smile.

[Halae]

[Snowy Streets]

"Maybe. If I'm going to do this, I want someone to watch my back, and another who knows the terrain. The first I should be able to get, but the second will be more difficult, given the only people I can think of that have experience in Arcadia are fey and half-breeds, I suppose. Hmm. Actually, that's not a bad idea; getting a tracker from the summer court if I can't find a half-fey willing to take me through Arcadia."

[Shadowcaller]

"Half-fey? I think you already lost me there. Never seen one in my entire life and I been around quite a bit. Seen a few fey though but I usually keep my distance. They're rumored to be pretty dangerous after all. Beautiful,, but dangerous." Methil declares with a nod.

[Halae]

"So I understand," Harnel says, "Still, if the summer and winter courts are in opposition, I'm bound to find at least a few willing to support me in stealing from the winter court. But first, I need a path to Arcadia; Cessie told me of a few individuals I may be able to talk to for that."

[Shadowcaller]

[Snowy Streets]

"Alright, who are these individuals then?" He asks before adding, "And how is it to be married to my sister?" The noble asks with a grin.

[Halae]

[Snowy Streets]

"Ilda starfire, Jagun Bronzespear, and Hailin Voidstone are the ones Cessie recommended. I intend to speak to all of them, see what I can find out." Harnel smiles, "And your sister is very much the one in control of our relationship. She's still getting used to the idea of being a mother, though."

[Shadowcaller]

"Mother? So it is true." He replies, looking rather surprised. "If I can be honest I didn't think it was possible for you to have children. You just looked so different from the others description." He replies with a curious look at the half-dragon. "No offense meant of course."

[Halae]

Harnel nods, "Well, I do look quite different normally, but given that my parents were a dragon and a human, I would say it's not too farfetched for me to have children with a full human. At least comparatively."

"They're twins, believe it or not. Cora and Bastion are their names. Cora is always so curious about the world, and likes to touch everything she can. Bastion, on the other hand, is a complete and utter grump. The only time he likes to do things is when it involves food. He's also rather fat at the moment."

Methil nods slowly, smiling at the thought of the two babies. "Our mother also had twins first time so we figured it would happen again some day." He says before pausing. "Do you think she will visit soon? We have things to talk about."

[Halae]

Harnel nods, "We intend to take a vacation of sorts soon, to show the babies to both of our families."

The remark causes Methil to sigh. "You do know they might be attempt to close that rift right? There might soon not be a path between the two worlds left."
