Night Thirteen:

'Why is it so damnable cold right now.'

The growl came from the masked man on the floor, blankets oddly wrapped around him as he attempted to sleep. 'If you'd stop tossing and turning, I assure you we'd have a better chance of entering sleep.'

'Movement makes warmth, you idiot.' 'We're all friends here. You shouldn't insult him.' 'Haha! Little missy is telling off the big bad. PRICELESS!' 'I don't care what you think, shut the hell up.'

After the snarling come back, the sounds quietened for a moment, before an odd, almost wistful voice issued from the pile of blankets.

'It's... snowing.'

'Hmm. He escaped me, for once. He and all his friends... Keep an eye everywhere. When he shows his head, I want him captured, or blown out of the world he is in. At your discression.

Meanwhile, let the games begin. And find that book before someone stupid pokes their nose into it. I'd rather not have it's actions in play.'

'Master. The land, it's snowing now.'

'It can't possibly be... No. No idle thoughts. Banish the snow as fast as you can. Whoever is meddling will learn quickly NOT TO.'

Jerry's ghost takes a break from searching spot 8 to ineffectually points at Penguinator. At that moment, Jerry has the strangest feeling that pointing at Penguinator in this reality has caused something to happen in another reality, though he isn't quite sure what.

Penguinator has no power.

Maybe he used it all to vote.

Let's see if we can give it back.

Day 14 over.

Day Fourteen:

The snow was at contrast with the residual heat from the passing of the dark cloud, and the war above with the snow was evident even from this far away. The brief flashes of lightning were a testement to how the darkness fought this interloper into its realm.

Down below, the survivors still fought to avoid the notice of the creature that had roasted Super, and to still gain more gold, or outwit the others. A game of mind and body, but one also of fear. For there was no line drawn in how far you could go, or where you stopped. It was free-for-all, constrained only by the limits of body and powers of the mind.

And of course, when there is no restrictions, there is death. For the original structure of this so called 'game' had drastically changed. As each passing moment where the rules loosened due to the inattentiveness of the creatures above them, the Masked Man and the cloud of darkness, the 'players' took advantage more and more.

Most had fled when Bladezz clashed against Calamity. Both locked in a duel over a single golden ring. Bladezz's animalistic battle prowess was matched by the calm destructiveness of Calamity, neither giving an inch as they fought, around and around. Laying cuts, scratches, singes on the other. Minor wounds.

In a moment, though, the equal duel was over. Atreyu's moment of weakness, feigned, drawing his opponent in, into a well laid trap. Which would been the end, if not for the sudden jerk of the island beneath them. Saffron suddenly twisted on its axis, the blade missing its mark. Then, with a brief thunderclap of force slamming his opponent into a building, Calamity began to flee also, leaving the Llama unable to move beneath the wreckage.

As the island slowly spiralled downwards, everyone leaned to watch the third island make its way. For this time, there was no wreckage. There was no brilliant red light exploding from it. It was almost like an acorn, hanging long on the branch, finally being let free...

'And thus another ideal fails.' 'They got another one so fast?' 'Hahaha! I told you they'd get faster at it.' 'And Saffron falls... Death of a greater kind. The gray world now overrun.'

Outside the snow faltered for a moment, before raining down harder then before. The clouds above almost battle lines in a war that was unseen to the public below...

Penguinator, Vesth, & Szilard went ventured into the Vault on a hot summer day, mostly just because they knew it was cool and dark inside. After aimlessly wandering around for a bit they came to a vending machine with ice cream.

Szilard put in a gold coin he found on the ground but, after several tries it was clear the machine just didn't want to take it and he'd left his wallet at home.

Penguinator and Vesth both took out coins they found on the ground as well from their pockets. Penguinators was jet black and Vesth's was silver. Penguinator offered to trade Vesth his coin, surmising it might be worth more in this dark place where it would be almost impossible to see it (if you didn't happen to trip over it and end up bashing your knee right on the ground), knowing full well that Vesth wouldn't take it because Vesth would think he was trying to trick him into not taking it which he would only do if he wanted to keep it, which was obviously not what he should do because he would know Penguinator was clever enough to only do that if he actually wanted him to take it.

Vesth on the other hand knew he just didn't feel like touching the greasy looking black coin because who knew how long it had been in the vault and where else it had been, so he just put his silver coin in. A package of ice cream came out. Vesth waved it in Penguinator's face in triumph and opened it to reveal.....a small pile of gold coins.

Trying his best to hold back his laughter Penguinator put the black coin in and was rewarded with actual ice cream, the greatest prize of all. (It must be afterall right? Otherwise how do you explain the lengths people will go to for a Klondike Bar?)

Night Fourteen:

The night wind flapped at the cloak surrounding the robed figure, the pinnacle of the tower on which he stood crackling with energy.

Before the one whose face was hidden in the shadow of his cowl, lay a book. The book. Dark, evil. Resonating with power. The power to manipulate the bindings of the Old Ones themselves.

'Necronomicon, reveal your power to me.' The voice spoke from the robe, laughing, mad. To dare to open the book, one must be mad.

Slowly, the eddies of power around the book fluctuated. Twisting and turning as the hands traced patterns and the tongue spoke words not meant for mortal ears.

Then, above, a boom sounded. And the dark clouds turned to look down upon the man summoning the book. The two dark eyes, lashing rain obscuring them, gazed malevolently down at the man atop the tower.

'You Dare. YOU DARE?' The voice slammed down upon the man like a crashing tidal wave on a beach. The force cutting into the chant and motions and washing the man onto his back.

'YES. Yes, I dare. There is NO reason to not do it. The Old Ones cannot be any worse than you. I watched what you did to SuperDark. I watched his flesh burn. And you think I would rather you?'

A moment of silence drifted, as the eyes gazed contemptuously down. 'You are a fool. And you deserve this fate for your idiocy.'

Once again, the searing hot wind slammed down, and the slashing rain suddenly burned with it's own fire. Slowly dissolving that which it touched.

Acid. The man screamed, but laughed as well. His voice a twisted mixture of pain and humour. 'It's too late! You're too late! The book has reached the final stages!'

The revolving book swirled with the power of the seals it held the secrets too, and only then, fatally too late, did the dark cloud look to see the book release a great, twisted furrow of tentacles. Each wrapped themselves around the insubstantial dark cloud, before dragging them slowly, ever so slowly downwards.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

The screams slowly faded as the darkness was drawn into the book. Then the Necronomicon snapped shut with a final, and deafening, click.

Leaving only the man lying, his robe burnt by the acid rain, which had reverted to it's former freezing, lashing normal rain form, and his mad laugh echoing out across the housetops.

All around the islands remaining, though, the ghosts looked up at the sound. The Necronomicon had broken something with them. They weren't quite so bound by the rules of the Dark shadow anymore. The dead... were no longer half pawns in this battle....
