Sabine was always there, Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia. I have no idea what you're talking about.

Re: Number of Character Appearances IV
And General Tarquin is officially a major character!
Do we have a red carpet for the occasion?Spoiler

Re: Number of Character Appearances IV
Should Kilkil get some sort of "paralyzed" alteration tag?
I won a thread. Am I pathetic to list that in my signture? Yes. Of course I am.

Are we sure he's paralyzed? There's no reference to it in the comic.

He seems to be laying on the floor in the same position he was as when Holy Word was cast. But I guess technically there is no proof.

Re: Number of Character Appearances IV
Considering that there's no actual visual alteration, I'm not sure why a tag would really be necessary anyway.

Re: Number of Character Appearances IV
That's a good point, though we tracked the paralyzation of Vaarsuvius (by ghasts), O-Chul (by Xykon), and one of Tarquin's guards (by Durkon). On the other hand, we didn't think to track Thog's paralysis by Durkon.
It is an invisible effect. Maybe we shouldn't track it. Opinions? Here is a numbering of all character appearances in OOTS

Re: Number of Character Appearances IV
Browsing through the "notable alterations", they're either indeed physical alteration, hinted at through visual clues, or representation of the characters on another support. Paralysis is the one exception as an invisible effect. If it becomes subject to interpretation, it should just as well be dropped.

Re: Number of Character Appearances IV
I'm going to go with what I said before - paralyzation causes no visual changes, so I'm inclined to vote against marking it.
On the subject of changed appearances, is there a reason why we're not noting Tarquin's continued use of his disguise? He's no longer impersonating Thog, but it's still a "magical alteration".

Re: Number of Character Appearances IV
Peronsally, the reason I haven't been tracking Tarquin's glamered armor changes is because it doesn't actually change Tarquin -- only his armor. When Sabine shapeshifts, she changes along with her clothing. But the glamer doesn't change Tarquin.

Re: Number of Character Appearances IV
Okay. I'm getting rid of paralysis as it is not a visible alteration.
I don't think Tarquin's glamered armor should be tracked as a visible magical alteration once it became clear that he was no longer impersonating Thog. It's only a change to the armor itself, and not to Tarquin, and we don't track costume changes.Last edited by Wrecan; 2012-09-04 at 11:08 AM.

Re: Number of Character Appearances IV
Tarquin disguised as Thog still counts as an appearance for Thog, right? If so, the full list is:
Belkar Bitterleaf, Blackwing, Draketooth by Entrance, Draketooth with Belt, Draketooth with Braided Hair, Draketooth Unresurrected, Durkon Thundershield, Elan, Haley Starshine, Malack, Mr. Scruffy, Roy Greenhilt, Sir Thumb, Tarquin (as Thog), Thog, Vaarsuvius.
(The as-yet-unnamed Draketooth is the one immediately to the right of Elan, who previously appeared in the big panel of #841.)
EDIT: Actually, since we're seeing a reprise of that panel in this strip, shouldn't the scarabs get an entry too? A lot of them are in the same positions as last time.Last edited by Nimrod's Son; 2013-01-01 at 08:11 AM.

Re: Number of Character Appearances IV
I am not sure that Thog should be counted, since everybody already knew it wasn't him and he never really looked the way Tarquin played him.
There must be some sense of order - personal, political or dramatic - and if no one else is going to bring it to this world, I will.

Re: Number of Character Appearances IV
Actually, looking back through the thread it appears the unnamed Draketooth has been counted already:
This wasn't contested at the time, but the hair shape between #841 and #842 is very different. The clothes are almost identical (the colour of the shirt is very slightly off, but that's all) and the hair is exactly the same colour, and it would certainly make the most sense for Durkon to drag corpses from that table. The change in hair shape could be explained by the difference between being face up and face down, which is the kind of little detail Rich is including more and more, yet we don't really have any precedent for it. I'd be inclined to say it's the same character, but at the same time the hair shape is totally different. What does everyone else think?
EDIT: Forget all that, it's almost definitely the same character. The foodstains on his right sleeve match, so it's got to be him.
(I also think "Draketooth Unresurrected" is a bit of a misleading name, since none of the Draketooths have been resurrected, and there's nothing about this one that I can see that makes him more worthy of the title than any of the others. We don't even know if Durkon tried to resurrect him.)
Read from about halfway down the page.Last edited by Nimrod's Son; 2013-01-02 at 07:53 AM.
