Huh, interesting. So obviously you know a bit about it, heh.

I just plug the numbers into the formulae. And obviously BMI is just one of the many variables we use. It's by far not the only measurement of health.

But I do remember that there was a cut-off point, way on the outer edge of the obese range, that carried the same kind of weight as some of the nastier STI's. By which point your insurance premiums would start choking you to death. So it's a rather important measurement of health, at least for the medical insurance industry.

Seems Neil Gaiman has started writing again, on some sort of mystery project. I'm gonna keep my eye on his journal veeeeery closely.
I think Neil Gaiman is working on the Before Watchman mini series. I forget if he is though.

    August! You're back!

ION, watching Supernatural right before bed gives me really interesting dreams. The one I've just had was a really vivid one, involving timeloops and such. It was just reaching the climax, and one of the protagonist's allies had just been possessed. The protagonist (a sort of hybrid of Harry Dresden and Dean Winchester) was just opening his mouth to give the possessing demon what for, when my alarm went off. My alarm at the moment is O Fortuna. My heart stopped for a moment.

Not fully though and I'm unaware of how long, but it could be said I've returned.

That's awfully specific, and the fact you remember it is notable as well.

Which of the many O Fortunas? The original with choir, the musical rock version or the metal version?

The choir I used to be in did O Fortuna once. The original. Although we spiced it up a bit with a light show, smoke machine and a string section. Was pretty cool.

I sprained my voice that year :/

Like I said, I may be wrong. But I think he is.

Also, even if he is, I don't see a point behind Before Watchmen beyond trying to milk a cult classic. It's as stupid and unessicary as making a sequel to Psychonauts.

But, but... Psychonauts ended on a cliffhanger!

But I see your point. I like what Alan Moore said about the whole thing: "I tend to take this latest development as a kind of eager confirmation that they are still apparently dependent on ideas that I had 25 years ago".

    Who loses from sequels?
If they are bad you disregard them. If they are good you've just gotten an extension of the original masterpiece. It's ignore-win.

I think the original stops being it when you've got somthing as hideously as disconnected from the original as a string section, organs are way better .

I wish the musical rock version was on youtube, its simply so much fun to hear it be progressively degraded by ragtime-esque sound and the sound quality of a midi. And I'm not joking.

Even if you disregard the sequels, they are still there and they can still put a stain on the originals. Just look at Star Wars. Though I will note, the stain is there because Lucas insists on trying to wipe up the stain with the original copies.

And in the worst cases you laugh since it's not like the canon has been tainted, you simply ignore it if you want (though trying to push that idea on to someone else might not always work).

Without the prequels we'd have no Battlefront II.

You can place a storm trooper in front of a tie fighter, I spent at least 3 hours doing that.

The possibilities are endless however. Placing it in the way makes the Tie Fighter crash and the trooper be fling. Time the throw and you can watch the tie-fighter seem like being hit by an rpg. Miss it and a stortrooper stil dies. The many powers and ways to fling them make the possibilities endless.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't find all those things as unique an expierance. They are all just throwing a dude at a thing. Also, speaking of force, if Starkiller can rip a Star Destroyer out the sky (very poorly I might add,t hat minigame SUCKED) why can't he just strait up explode a dude with the force? Also, this is just a minor thing, but why doesn't my lightsaber slice dudes up into pieces?

    Results are what matters.

Animating an implosion and/or severed limbs and keeping track of them would be insane. It's a Lucas Arts product after all.

Fallout is Bethesda. This are the guys that wrote in game books, many many of them. Their products are buggy not feature lacking. Lucas Arts products are both.

The problem is that any story that leaves the door open for a sequel will inevitably have its fans imagine how the story continues. If a sequel then comes that is just bad, then it stomps those fantasies into the fan-fic section without replacing them with something adequate. Of course you may try to pretend that it never existed, but that's a bit hard when you'll constantly be reminded that it in fact does, especially if you try to share your speculations on how the sequel would unfold.

If the story doesn't leave the door open for a sequel (or a prequel for that matter), then you shouldn't make one to start with.

Nothing stops fanfic writers, not even the authors specifically saying some are impossible.

Whatever stops people from telling me how the next movie woulod unfold and who they'd like to direct it is welcomed.

Of course you should make it, cash cows corpses are the base of the entertainment market.

The thing is, not everyone likes to be called fan-fic writer (or fan-whatever whateverers, since the ideas that I'm talking about usually aren't written down). It has a stamp of uncanon on it, and especially so when it goes against the canon.

Also, there are a lot of people out there who see canon as something you can't challenge, much like you can't tear out a section of your history book and replace it with your own creative writing and still call it history. Or a meeting protocol if want something that involves less speculation to start with. To those people, a bad sequel is almost like an embarrassing part of your country's (or whatever you feel tied to) history - it's utterly painful, but you can't ignore it either, and even more importantly, you can't claim it to be untrue and replace that particular part of your history with something "better".

I kind of attribute myself to that group. I am a bit obsessed by the canonical myself...
