Default Tasteful Video Game Printed Artwork

Was inspired by an article I read on Penny Arcade which linked to these guys (http://www.candb.com/en/), an art prints house specialising in gaming and digitally inspired artworks. I love the concept, just not the actual art shown (mostly from killzone, which i have no connection to) or the price (although I am prepared to pay real money for real art).

What I'd ideally love is something which is beautiful in and of itself, but also has ties to a game I love that only a gamer could see. I don't want something overly specific (like a detailed game character), or anything with lots of testosterone. So it's probably a landscape/cityscape idea, or maybe even something abstract. The core criteria is that it should be something that could go on the wall without coming across to a non-gamer as being 'just' video game art.

Some of the ideas for subjects that I had (by no means exclusive)

    • Bastion
    • Ico/SotC (a little cliche I know)
    • Classic Bioware games
    • Final fantasy (likely some of the cityscapes could make some truly epic art)
    • Studio ghibli artwork, or other anime (but nothing too futuristic or gratuitous).
    • world of Deus Ex

    • Does any know of any good companies (whether it be a game publisher or a 3rd party) doing this kind of work for any of the above categories), or might take commissions?
    • Failing that, is there anything stopping me from finding some high-res concept art and commissioning this for myself (for personal use at home, not resale). Anything under a creative commons license would be allowed I assume, but what about other works?

As far as I know, most photostudios can print pretty high-resolution glossy posters of any .jpeg or such file you bring them. I did that once, cost me around 12 euro, if I remember correctly, and was about the siye of a small poster.

I got the collector's edition of Age of Mythology (I have no idea why, I was a tiny kid, but I think it's awesome that I did), and it came with a whole pile of prints. One giant poster, and that one smaller poster for each of the 9 main gods. I only have the Thor one up right now, with a VOTE sign pointing at it, because VOTE THOR is awesome, but yeah.
