I need a really subtle MLP t-shirt so I can identify RL bronies without tipping off any non-fans that I like the show. I like to run, so this one's a strong contender, anyone else have any others they can suggest?

The new EQD one is pretty subtle, this one is not subtle at all, but the art style isn't obviously MLP-related, and the DJ-PON3 hoodie is quite subtle.

Not sure you looked at the back of that hoodie , and if there's one thing I want people to think I like less than ponies it's the Hunger Games. The other one's good, though

    Your guess would be correct.
I'll just switch that for the similar t-shirt, which has no picture of its back, therefore I assume that it's totally safe, if slightly boring.

I think at some point someone said 'I always preferred Ditzy Doo', and they decided to let the internet keep arguing about her name, slapped the fixed VA on it, and made a sandwich. I think I prefer it this way.

    Although I have another explanation:

Derpy Hooves is standard Derpy. She's an absent-minded mailmare that enjoys oatmeal muffins.

Ditzy Doo Whooves is, for lack of a better term, an alternate-universe paradox clone. The Doctor met her going back to last year to try and cut in front of Pinkie for cider (didn't work, accidentally wound up exposing a deadly plot to destroy the timeline). Ditzy now lives in the present doing part-time weather work and making sure Dinky gets in the right amount of trouble.

Too bad at some point both of them looked out a window in a bad place/time and saw what should not be seen.

This leads to a lot of sitcom shenanigans.

From where I'm standing it's possible that iTunes decided to take the episode down to avoid potential fallout from the controversy. I'm pretty sure iTunes has the right to take down anything it finds inappropriate. They might have told Hasbro that they wouldn't put it back up until the episode was 'fixed'. The Friendship Express DVD still has her original voice (and Derped eyes), though that might just be because the DVD was too far along to delay it. From where I'm standing the easiest way to find out if it was Hasbro or iTunes that decided to have it taken down is to see if the original is still on the Hub.
These. We're bound to get more news on this, and I'm withholding judgement until that happens.

I am not upset about the Itune changes.

What has me really perturbed is the way the vocal fandom has been handling the whole thing.

    A few opinions.

    - No one knows the exact reasons that prompted Hasbro made the changes. Nor should we pursue them. It just complicates matters.

    - Some people are tossing blames, and for some reason at Yamino, which, even if she were the one that caused it, should not have been attacked so vocally. Love and tolerate.

    - The reaction to the changes seems equally idiotic as the the original complaint that caused the change. Drop it and let it be.

    - It's a cartoon. At the end of the day it's a cartoon with some good ideals. But it's a cartoon never the less and such rage over a minor issue is just immaturity to the nth degree and are not following the very ideal of the show. That makes me facehoof.

And when I get more info and decide to pass judgment it'll either be "Huzzah!" at finding out that iTunes is the only place with the edited version or "Darn" if it turns out that's the new canon. Studio B did something amazing for us and I'll be sad to have it taken away, but that's the way business politics work and turning into a huffy dragon over it accomplishes nothing.

    Got me to thinkin'.

    "A dangerous pastime."

    I know.

But when that question 'What does MLP mean to you?' was asked, I echoed Phoe. But while it's true, it's not the extent of my answer. The answer comes in the form of that after this upside-down day I'm still smiling. I barely stopped.

I think I've realised the Emersonian ideal of Self Reliance. There's no one in the entire world I'd rather be than me, as I am now. No one richer, no one more talented, more famous, more lucky, more connected. I'm a self-contained entity. I chose to keep smiling and it happened. No-one and nothing can bring me down because the only opinion I need is my own.

MLP helped me come to terms with my darker and lighter sides, to explore aspects of my character I was denying, and process everything through exposure. Of everything I possess, the ability to love myself is by far the greatest talent. Possibly the greatest talent it's possible to possess.

The external world will let you down. You're not in control of it. Things'll change, and sure, they'll suck, and if you built your mind around those external things when they collapse your mind collapses along with them. You'll be lost in pain and sorrow and rage you can't control. You'll be sane for only as long as the world around you is sane - and any time the world lets you down, it'll destroy you. Partially or totally.

But, thing is, you don't need those things. You can embrace the good and decry the bad, but you don't need it. You don't need good things to happen to be happy. You don't need to be sad if bad things happen. All you need is a smile.

    *

That all said, I think I can identify the key reasons why this got such an emotional reaction:

    - Derpy is the icon of the fandom, so de-legitimising her de-legitimises us
    - Hasbro has had a spectacular failure of communication on this topic, and this topic's been brewing for a few weeks now. (Honestly, this is the part I shake my head at the most. I took an entire course warning me to avoid this)
    - Ponies are 'safe' for a lot of people, warm and comforting and all embracing, a source of stability in a dark and scary world.
    - The Internet fears censorship almost violently.

These all folded together created the perfect environment for a true rage storm.

Finally, this man got it right. I regard it as an inexcusable business failure that something along these lines wasn't released two weeks ago, but y'know.

Actually, I have to fervently disagree with this point, though I nominally concur with your others.

This is the absolute biggest problem here, and there are NEVER any excuses for lack of communication; no, NEVER; no, not even then. I don't care whether you're a one-man free webshow, a massive corporation, a local shop round the corner or a government; lack of clear communication is incompetance, plain and simple, and there are NO EXCUSES for it whoever the hell you are.

Hasbro knows damn well there is a huge following, and a huge following - who are quite prepared to buy their stuff. (If some people there are somehow claiming they don't, given how the brony fandom has reached so many national newspapers, and given their responses, the individuals claiming that want taking out and shooting as being Too Incompetant At Their Jobs To Live.) It is, at the very least, customer relations suicide not to address such a large and vocal community, especially when the change is for something put in to directly address than community. Hasbro have - until now - been wisely very accomodating; to the point they're actually releasing show-accurate toys, clearly understanding that they're going to be raking in the money from the Brony community; which merely makes this move beggering belief. They should have at the very least, made an official statement somewhere, because it would at least have mollified some of the fanbase (and for a kick off, might at least have avoided focusing ire on the wrong target). The lack of communication makes me far more annoyed than the change itself, because it shows a blatent lack of thought on the part of whoever is responsible for this. I don't tolerate Willful Stupid, ever.

(For the record, I wouldn't have minded merely changing Derpy's voice to be a bit more feminine than intended, given that Tabitha thought she was a boy to start with.)

This, pretty much. Money can't buy an advertising campaign that would recover the PR damage that this has caused.

Okay, enough logic, let's talk emotions. Hasbro can't take anything important away from us. They can't stop people from drawing or writing or thinking. Sure, the Studio B folks can make an official gesture and get that taken away, but is that really so bad? In most shows, it would have never gone anywhere. The director would say "oh hey there's that funny internet thing" and somebody else would chuckle then shake his head and that would be the end of the whole matter. Maybe at best they would let someone take a shot at voicing a line or two for kicks before nixing it. But not in this fandom. In this fandom, we got half a season of "Where's Waldo" because some very perceptive people caught a very small error in the first episode to ever air. And then we ran with it and produced hundreds if not thousands of images of art, beautiful stories and comics, and an entire character out of a single wall-eyed pegasus.

And THEN, the studio and the producers of this television show took us seriously enough that they were willing to take a risk. They actually took something we did, and made their interpretation of the character canon. For us. Because they cared and because they felt free enough and bold enough to take that risk. For a variety of reasons that risk didn't work out and things got changed. But...actually, you know what. Rich Burlew said this one better than I can.

I'm going to respond to your earlier post, despite you retracting it; not so much as a response to you at all, but mostly because it lead me on to one of my Rants again (nothing remotely aimed at you, of course) and I'm damned if I'm going to waste a great long heap of steaming invective that spreads to the steadily wider and wider branches of targets of my ire.

And there's no new pony today and I'm cranky, so someone is going to get it, so it may was well be them!

It's cathartic or something. And while I'm ranting here, I'm not violently pulling anyone's intestines out through their nostrils with a tuning fork or something. Also, I like the sound of my own rants, so nyer.

Considering how, for example, they've been selling out of the blindbag ponies, and have now actually relented to be releasing the more show-accurate toys (e.g. white Celestia), at leats some of them are clearly NOT assuming it's all a big joke, and that there is money to be made. Because I'm pretty sure the young children weren't clamouring for a show-accurate Celestia, Trixe and Vinyl in sufficient numbers to make them care...

They could shut everything down, but what would that gain them? Nothing but lost revenue and bad publicity, which would likely have knock-on effects on their OTHER product lines, as angry would-be customers tend not to be rational. Now, I'm not climbing the walls or, for example, going to explain to the Hasbro in person why it's not a good idea to be not thinking when there is a Lich with zero tolerance for lack of forethought and a rocket launcher in the immediate vicinity, but that doesn't mean I'm going to support their position.

Now, some of the major entertainment corporations in particular seem to think they can do what they like and people will still buy there stuff... (*coughActivision*cough*EA*cough*) But such an attitude won't carry them forever. Look how many people turned off WotC with the cancellation of Dragon, the stopping of the PDFs and finally 4E. Now, it didn't kill them, but it did chase a lot of business to Paizo; how many more will quit at 5E? (Assuming my group is not wildly untypical, all of use bought loads of 3.5 books and splat books, but only one bought the 4E splats, and we've only got one spare PHB and DMG between us.) The point I'm making is that customer relations is crucial to a business, whoever the company is, and regardless of how big it is. Make enough bog-ups, and enough people will start voting with their wallets that it does matter.

The fact is they should have KNOWN that this would cause a ruckus (with the internet being a place for notorious over-reaction) and could have easily taken at least one or two measures to mititate it - a simple statement would have been enough. The fact they didn't shows that the specific people responcsible are simply not doing their jobs properly. And I don't care that this is about ponies. I wouldn't care what the subject matter was, or how big the fanbase, or who the company is. Lack of forethought and poor customer relations is lack of forethought and poor customer relations regardless, and I have no tolerance for people, companies or anything else who don't THINK and doesn't keep tabs on everything. Goodwill is much harder to get back than to lose.

I'm not angry, particularly (though not best pleased), at the changes - there may be a good reason in the event (not that we'd know of course)- what I am annoyed at the fact that they are in serious danger of following the road to act as stupidly as some of the other larger megacorporations in regard to taking their customer base for granted.

Something I have LONG PAST stopped tolerating even slightly. Business, you are there to provide me with a product or service, for which I will enumerate you. You are not there soley to screw as much money out of everyone for as little effort as possible; I am certainly not paying you for something I don't want several times over so that eventually, you might decide to make the thing I actually want; looking at you, entire DVD industry in particular example, 1, because if you think for one fraction of a second "that's the way the industry works" is any kind of excuse coming from the same industry who introduced regioning solely for the specific reason fo stiffing everybody as much as possible, you are as Willfully Stupid as to collectively make it on to my "I'm not just going to kill you slowly, I'm going to kill you slowly, string up your souls and then spirit-bind you helplessly into an animated body and make you do what you should have done in the first place, forever and permenantly, you verminous flesh-bags"; if you think, DVD industry, that the internet can over-react, you are clearly woefully uninformed about what an Epic level Necromancer with a penchant for holding a grudge can permenantly do to you; especially when not even death or insanity is a safe place to hide and he's taking notes and I shall personally educate you at the first opportunity I get!

    *Huff*

    *Huff*

    Okay... I'm good now.

I'll...go back into my little corner and be quiet now...

1And that means all of you, from the electronics people who make the DVD players to the people who make DVDs.

Another episode synopsis has been discovered!
    Spoiler
    Show
    Title: Hurricane Fluttershy
    Air Date: March 24, 2012
Synopsis: Fluttershy needs to overcome her self consciousness in order to help Rainbow Dash and the other pegasi with the Rainy Season.

@Derpy Debacle: I'm okay with the voice change, but not the name removal. However, it is hardly anything to boycott the show over.

Keep perspective, everyone. Don't let this ruin your day. Don't stop smiling. The death of Optimus Prime didn't stop you playing with your Transformers, and no Derpy retcon can take away what she means to us.

So take a breath, before you get upset. And relax.

She's ours. They were just borrowing her for a time.
That's because they keep on killing him off, only to resurrect him. It's gotten to the point where the first question any Transformers fan who learns of a new series asks is "How long until Optimus dies and comes back to life?"

There is a reason we use the phrase "died more times than Optimus Prime..."

I'm pretty sure the Autobots must all be used it by now.

Jazz: Hey, dudes, Prime's kicked the bucket again! Who wants to take over for the next couple of days?

Grimlock: Me not do that again, me did that enough time already!

    Magnus: Nah, I'l pass...

    Hotrod: I-

    All: NO!

Prowl: How about a random choice?

Grimlock: Why not? It no be worse than last time with Slag1...

    *twenty minutes later*

New Autobot Leader: It is about the time, now Wheelie is the Prime!

    All: SLAG!

Slag: Huh? Did somebody call me?

    *Autobot collective facepalm*

1I once read a "Mr T verses" comic in which they made the same joke with Slagimus Prime...

Sad that they decided to change her. I'm going to hold my full judgment on the thing until the episode reruns on the Hub. Why? From where I'm standing it's possible that iTunes decided to take the episode down to avoid potential fallout from the controversy. I'm pretty sure iTunes has the right to take down anything it finds inappropriate. They might have told Hasbro that they wouldn't put it back up until the episode was 'fixed'. The Friendship Express DVD still has her original voice (and Derped eyes), though that might just be because the DVD was too far along to delay it. From where I'm standing the easiest way to find out if it was Hasbro or iTunes that decided to have it taken down is to see if the original is still on the Hub.
    Yeah Nooo.

Look I'm not exactly an expert or anything but actually changing an episode's animation and re-doing voice work is way too much effort for the scale of the show. You can buy R-rated material on iTunes and stuff far more controversial and bigger like South Park.

A weird and unique synergy between show and fans that made me just feel happy, really really happy. I could take Hasbro's apathy, but this is actively slapping the community in the face. And its done something far more serious, something that once it happens isn't likely to come back.

I 100% agree with all of this. This is the part that upsets me about this whole thing, that Hasbro hasn't told us anything about what's going on. I can live with the fact that they changed Derpy and de-named her, but the fact that we don't know why has got the community in a rage. Everyone's blaming each other when it's entirely possible Hasbro did it for reasons unrelated to the complaints that she was offensive.

That said, I finally got around to watching a clip of the new voice and definitely don't like it. That voice is ditzy. This displeases me. When she asks if Rainbow Dash is okay she doesn't sound sorry at all, she sounds perfectly happy with the string of disasters around her. Derpy's voice (which is what I'm calling it now on the grounds that that straight-eyed mare is never named Derpy) at least sounded like she was aware of what she had done.

Entirely probable! I'm basing my views pretty much entirely on how much games end up being edited for Australian release and the fact that most companies have to jump through hoops to get anything over there. Maybe iTunes decided that the rating for that episode would be different than the others? I don't know. There's a good chance I'm entirely wrong. I'm mostly just offering alternative possibilities to deflect some of the hatred away from Hasbro until we actually know what happened.

This saddens me. *Hugs* You'll be missed and I hope you come back soon. If not, that's also fine.

And today's off to a gloriously bad start. I mentioned earlier this week that Phoe had given me an awesome idea. I haven't really had time to get it set up this week, so was going to do so today. I really should have figured that I wouldn't be the only one with this idea. So now I'm sad. I'm going to go watch some happy Pinkie for a bit to cheer me up. Then I'm going to work on my other awesome idea. I may not be able to claim my Smile Chorus, but I can still win that Friendship Express DVD!

This is Orichalcum from the Exalted universe. It is one of the six major magical materials, and is created using complex sun focussing mirrors and purest gold. It is incredibly heavy, very hard, and essentially indestructible. More importantly, it resonates with essence, especially that of the Solar exalted. Attuning your essence with it makes it incredibly light, meaning that a sword as tall as you are can feel like a light rapier in your hands, while retaining it's spectacular damaging force. For a solar, the resonance between their essence and the blade actually makes them faster and stronger using the weapon than they would be with a normal, smaller, lighter weapon.
