Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
Ouch. Unfortunately I'm blanking out as far as suggestions there, but... I'd recommend putting some thought into how you're going to open with them at the very least. Others should have some more perspective/better ideas/resources to point you towards than I.
Relying on them to say something is risky, to say the least, especially because getting you on a defensive backfoot with needless antagonism as your brother demonstrated... Probably not going to be conducive to communicating with them.
So you're wearing a blouse then? Or more like a female-cut t-shirt?

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
I feel ya. I'm pretty damn high-functioning, but only because of how well my mum taught me how to pick up on normal-people things like that.
I can usually tell when a girl is into me (I don't think I've ever had a guy be into me), but I'm always so unsure because I'm convinced that I'm not picking up the cues properly that it goes undealt with for too long and ends up kind of awkward.
Though last time a girl confessed to me it did turn out fairly well. We're still very close friends. And I'm pretty sure she wasn't expecting any kind of reciprocation, and just wanted to tell me how she felt. (Though to be honest she initially told me by written note, and the next day when she mentioned it I panicked and said I hadn't read it, and then she took the note back. Then over the summer she emailed me and I had to answer that.)
I meant English vs. Japanese. I grew up watching it on TV, so I watched the English dub (and I take it it was only dubbed in American English?) but I also watched "Season 0" online in Japanese with subtitles, and I've seen a few episodes from the later series in Japanese.
And I read the entire manga, including GX and R, but I didn't really like 5Ds.
Really? Most people really liked Johto, but reject anything later. Personally, I really like Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn, but in my opinion 4th and 5th gen (Sinnoh and Unova) aren't that great.
I take it you count Togepi and Ho-oh because they appeared in the Kanto series, despite being 2nd gen Pokemon?
*support* and *hugs*
Good luck, and don't regret the decision to express yourself!
So guys, I'm kind of freaking out right now. Earlier when I was finishing my Orgo homework before class (yes I'm a terrible slacker) I got an email from my ex. And I dropped my homework and went for a walk outside for half an hour and I'm still freaking out. Though going to Orgo class helped me calm down a little bit I'm kind of freaking out. Damn, I thought I was over her.Jude P.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
That went amazingly well. I think the increased visibility of trans issues in the news this past year has helped a lot - mum keeps abreast of the news, so it wasn't completely out of her knowledge sphere. She did ask if this meant I was going to transition, and I explained about gender being non-binary, and she asked what that meant about sexuality, but she was completely accepting and non-awkward about it!
And she told my brother that he was going to stop staring at me, and that it's okay for me to be his "sother"! When i told her that was a horrible word, she said "At least it's better than 'brister'!"
And she just held me for a while, and said that at the end of the day, I'm still her child, and I'm still me, and I have right to be whoever I am, and that's fine.Last edited by Heliomance; 2012-03-02 at 05:19 PM.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
AND THUS, AWKWARDIOUS THE DRAGON OF AWKWARD WAS SLAIN! FRABJOUS DAY!
I wish my mum was like that. She...I guess the best term would be disowned...me when she found out I was atheist awhile back. I hate to think how she'd react if she found out I was bi (Though I dunno if that's the right term. I'm more like a Discworld Dwarf, I don't really recognize gender as being anything that matters).
Dad, he'd be confused, but he always supported me.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
Good to know it turned out well.
I think the best word to describe that would be Pansexual, actually.
Sorry to hear about your mom. Mine just blamed my friend for it (without really noting that he's a self-proclaimed Pagan, rather than an Atheist) and alienated him. :/
I don't even plan on coming out to my parents (even if I do, I won't exactly be polite about it), but judging by their opinion on homosexuals and my hair... Well, I don't think they'd quite disown me, but they'd definitely freak out. They'd probably force me to cut my hair if they knew about my gender (they already had been until I turned 18 and started flatly refusing, after all).

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
Aww. That's quite heartwarming.
Wish I could do stuff in short moments of high awkwardness instead of freezing when people talk to me. >_>
Then again, me without that inhibition might be considered a sanity hazard. X3
I wonder how many stories reverse the role of knight and dragon... Although, Awkwardness dragons sound pretty evil. Or potentionally quite hug-worthy. :3
That is a sad story, I wish I could offer more than hugs and the assurance that it is not as bad everywhere. If there is anything, please do tell. ;_;
*Hugs*

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
I've been at the employment office
todayyesterday, and among other things, I asked about what would happen regarding support from the office if I got diagnosis on having some sort of concentration issues or thereabout, considering the problems I have with my university studies (way too long story to tell now). Well, I will get special support *if* I get a diagnosis, but I need to get to do it ASAP, because such things take time. (Why oh why haven't I done it sooner!? I've suspected it for years, but I've never got around to do anything about it, or my relatively recent sensitive and melancholic nature... )
After the meeting, I went to the bank to transform coins into "electronic" money (they got into my pay card account), and then I took a look at the annual book sales in three stores. Made a very good bargain at one of them, they had a 50% price reduction on the already low price, and thus I bought a few non-fiction books about World War II (I have morbid interests, sorry! -_- ):
The Longest Day June 6, 1944, by Cornelius Ryan
A Bridge Too Far, by the same author
Berlin - The Downfall 1945, by Antony Beevor
June 1941. Hitler and Stalin, by John Lukacs
I was also at a second hand store (which support some local charity for young people, so karma points I hope ); bought History of the Second World War volume 1-2 by B. H. Liddell Hart, The Travels of Marco Polo, Farthest North by Fridtjof Nansen, and The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle, all hardcovers, cheap and in good condition. I didn't need the Holmes book since I have the complete collection in English, but I love this particular Swedish edition and it has very good re-print of the illustrations. (Seriously, Penguin, Putnam, Wordsworth, and others, is it really that hard to print B/W illustrations, especially in full size???) I also bought a few cheap pocket books in Swedish and English, by Graham Greene, John Buchan, and others.
Sorry, I like gushing about things I like. -_-
*hugs Asta Kask* I can relate to getting involved in Internetdiscussionsdebatesfights.
SpoilerI'm currently in a heated argument at another site over whether life as an amputee/late diabetes type I sufferer is worth living, and a few controversial side-topics regarding that.
Damn you consequentialists and moral relativists, you have it so darn easy compared to us moral absolutists... -_-
I have no clue whatsoever - I don't play or watch Pokemon! With Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles craze (back in the late 1980's/early 1990's), I at least bothered to learn the names of the turtles (and I had two, very different turtle toys).
My first thought is something rainbow-themed, but I guess it's too obvious. But I like rainbows! The capsule thingie could have a pink triangle.... Reading WWII stuff gives it sad connotations for me, but hey, I can appreciate and respect reclaiming... -_-
You're free to do whatever you want (please tell if you want a special gallery folder for it/them), but it would be fun to see a hero using Pokemon to fight evil and/or save people in the same universe as the other GiantitP (super)heroes.
I think about starting to post at her blog, but I'm afraid I'll start a discussion/debate about skepticism and ALL HELL WILL BREAK LOOSE.
In other news; hormones or SRS are no longer a requirement to change your legal gender in the Netherlands anymore. (nor do you have to be sterilized.) I'm sorta hoping this is following the Sweden example and make things easier in a lot of places.
Was sterilization a requirement for transition in the Netherlands too?
That is great news as well! Hug your mom from me!Viking/Paladin by Astrella

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
We could use normal Pokémon and Pokéballs, but just pull a Mystery Dungeoun and give them rainbow scarves. It'll be great. And I know exactly how to superhero with Pokémon, however I cannot draw nor do I have a DeviantArt account. But I can tell you:
Charizard
Swampert
Dragonite
Tyranitar
Ampharos
Gardevior
Edit: Legendaries if allowed:
Lugia
Mew
Articuno
Entai
Celebi
Box:
Blissey
Heracross
Garchomp
Flareon
Espeon
Miltank

Gah, there are so many books I haven't read... :bedhead:
Ever hear of The Dictators? I seem to have misplaced my copy (again), but it's about the similarities and differences between Stalin and Hitler (even as far back as their childhoods and psychologies). It's also probably about as heavy as my head, which is impressive considering how I can't wear normal-sized hats.
My first thought is something rainbow-themed, but I guess it's too obvious. But I like rainbows! The capsule thingie could have a pink triangle.... Reading WWII stuff gives it sad connotations for me, but hey, I can appreciate and respect reclaiming... -_-
That is great news!

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
In news related to the name of the thread....I has to make sweet sweet murder upon someone.
Spoiled for Major Downer:
SpoilerMy brother was able to get with someone, who was not exactly his type (I know his type...we share a taste in men.) But, still sweet, and they had a good time. Then he found out that his new boyfriend was in the closet, and helped him in the last couple of days get the last bit of nerve up to come out to his parents. Being there...ect.
That is were the urge to kill has cropped up in me. You see, the guy's parents were totally homophobic, and violent about it. My brother's boyfriend came out to them, and his dad attacked not only his own son, but my brother as well. They both ended up getting away with just a few bruises, and aches and pains. (Yes, proper authorities were alerted, they took a report, but no arrests were made because they didn't consider it assault for some reason.)
The hate is strong in me right now, and i'm typing with total rage. I'm getting the pair drunk right now, and myself, so venting. Forget the drunken rant and venting, but I need it.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
Oklahoma, and MOST people are fine. The rest are....awful.
I went to pick him up, and my husband came with, though I'm bettering in a fight...anyway the guy's dad was on his lawn yelling. (My brother and his BF had gone across the street to call me.) He saw my husband (who is half-black half-german) and started yelling about how all black people were homosexual....using more colorful and offensive language.
I would have gone ape-poop right there...but my husband calmed me down with some humor. He said "Gee, he might be right. I'm half-black and bisexual." The chuckle is the only reason I am home and not in jail right now for rage induced murder.
Seriously....attacking my family twice in one day is not a good way to keep doing the breathing thing. We stayed long enough for police to show up, and they did jack-all.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
Ah, yes. As someone who's body is apparently entirely unaffected by the depressing part of depressants, I fully support your use of alcohol, especially raspberry vodka in conjunction with jolly ranchers or swedish fish. When all else fails, booze cheers me up, though in my (or is it alcohol's) defense, I'm Irish and my father is the nicest drunk I've ever met. He goes from being super cool let's play vidya games together and then go to a cable park and get soaked to super cool hey lets play vidya games together, head to a beach bar and hit on babes, then come back and play warhammer while listening to German techno.
My next door neighbour (who is one of my best gay friends) has a boyfriend who has a plane. I can be there in a few hours with some harsh words, some armor and/or renaissance footsoldier armor, and my forget-me-stick.
Homophobia, thought it angers and confuses me, I can allow someone to sorta get by with. Racism? Attacking people for their sexuality? Those are right below sexual assault on my list of things I just might be tempted to actually give in and injure a fellow human for.Last edited by TechnoScrabble; 2012-03-03 at 02:31 AM.

Here, Lady Tialait. I will drink with you and your kin, and we will raise such a fumy and raucous joy against the benighted caul of our foes that murder need not dirty its hands with matter.
And, American Beauty-like, can tease out the repressed lusts that torture your brother's boyfriend's father to such fisticuff conflagration: and like a firewall, deflect the damage.

Hold on there, pal. You're going on the weak end of the wonderful world of drinks.
Blue Curacao and vodka, equal parts, mixed with some Sprite (or any other lemon-lime soda), orange juice (no pulp), on the rocks is a popular drink only true nerds can appreciate.
You may notice it's a Screwdriver. But it's got that fizzy bubbly-wubbly, timey-wimey stuff in it. It's a Sonic Screwdriver. Done right, it's even green. I tend to mix mine with non-alcoholic champagne, and some blue dyes. Not the same, but still wonderful.Last edited by Triscuitable; 2012-03-03 at 03:12 AM.
