Re: Dungeons and Dreamboats V: Snakes & Cakes
Hey, everypony. I'm looking for a picture of a young human female necromancer, of the alluring and beautiful variety. Bonus points for red hair, but I have such terrible search-fu that I'll be happy with anything you can give me.

Re: Dungeons and Dreamboats V: Snakes & Cakes
@Ragged
Perhaps a little bit of Triss from Witcher?
Spoiler
She is a mage-ish character, though sadly not really a necromancer. Or are you looking for something a little more "doom and black souls"?

Hey BlackestOfMages, i checked that one with all the Tali'Zorah's on it at deviantart and it sort of looks like they just stole art from a whole lot of other users and mashed it together. I don't see anything giving credit to anyone. Maybe take that one down just in case?

that was only three days worth of image collecting as well
also, it's odd that one was smaller - it was he only one that stretched my screen... a couple of them must've had multiple enlarges, I s'pose

Re: Dungeons and Dreamboats V: Snakes & Cakes
A picture request, as I'm having trouble finding any of these three subjects;
a picture of a large ogre or oni with dark blue, purple, or light grey skin, wearing at least pants(rather than just a loincloth) or preferably armour, wielding either a jian, dao or spear, or if those end up being too hard to find, a kanabo or bo.
An armoured humanoid dragon without wings wielding a weapon of some kind, that possesses a strong, stocky build, rather than an agile one.
And a pixie ninja/assassin, preferably cute(in other words, not a barely humanoid insect, or a very busty miniature elf) with small either moth or butterfly wings, no antenna and if possible unpointed or only lightly pointed ears(like the ears of SOGA model elves in everquest2)
For both the oni and the dragon man I would like them to be male if possible,
but the fairy can be either gender.
All three have turned out harder to find than I thought they would be, most pictures labeled "oni" I was able to find were either red oni, female, or bishonen anime men(often with no oni features at all), and most humanoid dragons i was able to find were either frail looking, possessed wings, or were unarmoured, and most fairies either were too busty, or were too insecty.
edit; the closest I’ve found to what I'm going for so have been these pictures
Spoileroni
dragon men
pixie ninjas
edit 2; also, does anyone have ideas for what terms to put into a search when looking for a picture of something wielding a jian, dao, falchion or cutlass?, the jian and dao rarely get any results, and when they do it's usually a mislabeled katana, searches for falchions almost always bring up giant scimitars(I do realize it's the common view of them in media, but I can't figure out how to phrase a search to show results for more realistic ones), rather then what are basically medieval machetes, and cutlass’ often bring up either epées or rapiers.Last edited by Togath; 2012-04-02 at 06:53 AM.

Re: Dungeons and Dreamboats V: Snakes & Cakes
Look up 4e's Dragonborn. Most of them are wingless dragon-men (some get wings, and ~50% are dragon-women...), and their stat spread means that there's a good number of pics of them wearing armor, and generally have a strength-oriented athletic build... broad torsos and thick, muscular limbs, etc.

Re: Dungeons and Dreamboats V: Snakes & Cakes
Try these - English isn't trustworthy for this, but a little translation can go a long way.
剑 - This is Chinese, and can pull up jians or daos.
劍 - This is Chinese, and can pull up jians or daos.
Espada - This is Spanish, and has a decent chance of pulling up a cutlass.
For spears:
矛
矛
lanza
arpón
asta
All of these mostly just pull up weapons, but characters do show up some. The ones below will pull up people.

espadachín

Re: Dungeons and Dreamboats V: Snakes & Cakes
Thank you all for the replies, I had actually been trying to remember what the 4E dragon-people race was called so I could search for pictures of them, also thank you Knaight for the translations of the weapons, those should help as well.
edit; Found out when I looked it up that the espada was actually the ancestor to the rapier, though I do see your point about trying words from other languages for searchs, espada does bring up a few cutlasses though, so it is somewhat useful for searching for cutlasses(about 40%-50% of search results for "espada" bring up the espada faction from bleach, the other 45%-55% are rapiers or longswords, but about 1 in 20 results is actually a cutlass, which is better results than searching for "cutlass" ironically), the others work well thoughLast edited by Togath; 2012-04-03 at 07:48 AM.

For necromancer I'm meaning beyond the modern convention of mere control of death to the power over life and death and influence with the souls of the dead. So here they are.

Necrosis - rotting,, the shortened version Necro is linked in to refer to corpses (not death, which is a common misconception)
Mancer - A title for one who's job is to manipulate whatever the word before was.
combining the two gets necromancer, one who manipulates corpses. I suppose that that has a few alternate connotations, but the most common one - and the fact not using this one is the modern one, where it changed to death - would be someone who manipulates corpses...
especially since Aeirith looks identical to a girl in a dress. if thats all you want then 90% of the characters there suited your means perfectly (and uour only accociating Aerith with the ideal because you know who she is).

Re: Dungeons and Dreamboats V: Snakes & Cakes
Actually, a necrourgist or necroturgist would be someone who works with corpses. A necromancer is someone who tells the future using the spirits of the dead. "-mancy" refers to divination using whatever it is suffix to, "-urgy" is the one you're thinking of. Of course, few enough people actually know or care about that.
Edit: Also, the "control over life and death" and so on sounds like it's inspired by the D&D Necromancer, who was supposed to deal with that kind of thing (at least in 3.x -- and I say "supposed to" because it was gutted of the "life" aspect in the move to 3.5).Last edited by ScionoftheVoid; 2012-04-03 at 02:47 PM.

Re: Dungeons and Dreamboats V: Snakes & Cakes
Hi there, I have a request.
I'm going to be playing a human duskblade, male and either late twenties or early thirties. I'm looking for a picture of a good sword and shield using spellsword type, bonus points for having a storm or lightning theme. I don't really care abut hair colour etc.
Please no anime.
Thanks.
