Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread
Then I'll suggest finding a copy of any 1st or 2nd edition material (there are plenty of blog sites that have articles on the varying books, modules, etc. In fact, there's even a blog about the "stupid" older edition monsters) and see what inspires you.
Edit:
Here's a freebie idea:
Take an existing, highly deadly monster and create a monster that is practically harmless in comparison but looks very similar. This is the concept that lead to the Gas Spore being made.
Edit Edit:
Here's another one:
Take 2 animals and combine them, ala the Owlbear.Last edited by Tanuki Tales; 2013-03-01 at 02:14 PM.

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread
expect either a monster or a race from me :)
I dont know the pathfinder monster statblock very well can i use standard 3.X because thats what I understand most. If not i understand and I will probably just go make a race.
and also if i do make a race/monster can I include subtypes/subraces in my entry?Last edited by inuyasha; 2013-03-02 at 08:30 PM.

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread
I've got ideas a plenty for the contest, Tanuki knows I'm quite the Blackmoor fan so I'll be doing my entry in memory of Arneson and one of his more mysterious creations.

Can an Archetype (that does a lot, but not its own class) be an entry?

Sorry for the very late entry to the I choose you competition. Any input or critique is much appreciated as I've never made a class before.

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread
In spite of the two extensions, I'll have to say that I won't be finishing the class in the frame of the contest. Just been too distracted to put the final touches on what I got in Word, plus one of the newer entries appears to be doing exactly the same thing in most aspects and class abilities, with the differences being a few abilities that tie into the greater framework of Pathfinder.
So yeah. Have a ball, lads.Homebrewer's Signature | Avatar by Strawberries

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread
Last day for Feb's contest folks.
And it looks like we only have 2 complete entries.
Well, that's just how the worm turns sometimes. I'm glad that there was so much interest that time around, even if everyone's schedules didn't allow said interest to go all the way.
Hopefully this month's contest will be better.

It's Pokemon. You expected more than two entries? I too am hoping this month's topic will be better.

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread
I was pretty excited for the Pokemon theme! =)
And I had an idea right away for it, and I did my best to get it finished. I just don't know if I'll manage to write up all the fluff for it in time.

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread
My dislike for the topic aside, we are getting strikingly close to the month and a half time frame. People have had a whole 912 hours to work on their project, can we just allocate the winner and runner-up their awards and move on the the next contest?
I think 38 days is plenty of time.

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread
Congratulations to the winners of last month's contest. I'll get on doing the trophies and sending them when I get a chance.
The first page and my signature have been updated to link to the new contest, so please go mosey on over if you haven't already.

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread
Hello, folks! This is my first time out, but I am ready to give it a try. Posted up a new monster, based on the idea of memories and how very few people even remember the first edition.
I would be delighted to have feedback.

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread
Sam...just...wow. I really love the concept you've submitted for this contest.
I'm curious though, could this better serve as a template perhaps? Or something that is more customizable?
I ask because I'm curious why every one of these guys has the Dwarf and Giant subtype. Also, if I may ask, why CR 10?

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread
Welp, the main reason was so that it would fit the INCREDIBLE picture that I found. But I could also make a template, which would grant the abilities, yeah. Gimme about an hour to whip that up.
Also, I actually *started* the thing aiming for CR10. I checked out a ton of similarly CR'd monsters (Coutal, Xenarth Bulette Demon, Greater Fire Elemental, Kronosaurus, etc, etc), and it compared rather well. Its saves tend a bit high, and its HP is about 40 above anything else I saw, so I guess it might be more of a CR 11. Thoughts?
EDIT: Is there a set way to do a template...? I don't see a preset for a template, just Base Class, PRC, Monster, and Race...

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread
Yeah, I suppose it is... I can boost its power level in about 10-20 minutes if you'd like. The point wasn't to make him uber-powerful, because then, presumably, he WOULD get remembered. It was sort of a middle ground between "not noticeable" and "instant recognition by the world at large." He's powerful, and SHOULD be noticed as a guardian, a lorekeeper, as a founding father of the world... but he's not.
So *should* he be boosted, in your opinion?
I've been meaning to add the template coding for a while now, but it's just never come up. Let me get the trophies done and then I'll code up some template coding for you.
