I say no, and he died years ago.
But I would not be shocked if he lived. Even if my first impression is that I do not like him all that much.If I cared about this, I would probably do something about it.

Re: OOTS Reader Polls
Alive - but with negative hit points
No, seriously, I think he's alive - partly because of the halo theory, partly because it'd be a waste to kill such a character so early.Last edited by Savil; 2012-03-01 at 09:09 AM.

Re: OOTS Reader Polls
His greatfather being a dragon, Girard may have a better lifespan than any human. If he died years before, that means that familicide stroke his child even with at least one missing link between ABD and them.
That means that if familicide was casted on me :
- My parents would die.
- My mother parents and my brother would die.
- My father's brother and sister would die even if their parent's passed away years ago.
- My mother's mother's brothers and sister would die, then all my mother's cousins (starts to make a bunch of peoples).
etc...
Going up and down in every family tree connected to mine, regardless if peoples are or aren't dead would be a massacre.Posting from France
Sorry for my accent.

I wouldn't be shocked if he turned out to still be alive somehow, but my gut feeling is that he's probably dead. So, no.

Re: OOTS Reader Polls
Dragonborn in 3rd ed get there age reset to 200 years and given a life span of 800 IIRC. But I'd like to point out that Dragonborn in 3rd ed are vastly different than in 4e, mainly that its an acquired template because Bahamaut choose non-dragon humanoids to be his envoys and paragons of his faith to non-dragons. They are no so much a race as they are individually selected chosen from the Platinum Dragon himself.

No I'm going with dead. I think they'll encounter him in some form of permanent illusion, like was prepared at the random location they arrived at.

Re: OOTS Reader Polls
For the sake of The Story and the laws of drama, I must say yes.
(I'm a fan of the flesh-to-stone theory right now, but I think it still counts as 'yes' since according to srd you aren't dead when you are turned into stone.)

Re: OOTS Reader Polls
Not "alive" in the traditional sense, because of old age. I mean, Lord Shojo was just a little kid when Soon abdicated, so he'd be, what, 120? More? Even Dorukan who seemed to be the youngest member of the party was venerable when Xykon attacked.
On the other hand, he seemed to be paranoid enough to place himself under some sort of stasis, Flesh to Stone or the like. And the statue in #841 was suspicious as hell.
And he's proven (the desert trap) that he can cast contingent spells that wait for many many years, so perhaps he'll be reanimated when some yet unknown condition is met, such as someone getting too close to the gate.Last edited by aldeayeah; 2012-03-01 at 04:52 PM.

Re: OOTS Reader Polls
I guess I'll go with no, but there's an illusory version of himself guarding the Gate.
Soon met Lirian about 66 years before the OOTS was on trial, so Girard would be in his 80s or 90s. Probably best to ignore the fact that Shojo looks like a little kid in that flashback.

Re: OOTS Reader Polls
Yes Every other member of the Order of the Scribble was alive*, why wouldn't Girrard be?
* Ok, so Soon might be technically dead, but he was still active and played a major role, so I don't count that as "beyond the mortal plane" :)Official Incense Aroma Specialist for the Vaarsuvius Fan Club!

I think he's still alive, if being a statue counts as alive.
