But I expect him to have left some form of message behind, perhaps some kind of living illusion.

I say he escapes and lives happily ever after!

In actuallity, depends on the status of his fellow Draketeeth.

If they are dead by V's hand I think he's the statue.

If they are alive and it's all a secret test of character, he's dead.

    Reader Poll for #842
Is Girard Draketooth alive? (Clarification: Has he avoided death, or any other change of mortal status. Flesh to Stone counts as alive.)
    Yes: 6 - 26.08%
    No: 17 - 73.91%

    Reader Poll for #843
We found out that V has killed considerably more than one-quarter of the Black Dragon population. Can s/he ever be redeemed for hir actions? Yes or No? (Let's keep this mod-friendly; we don't need vitriol-laden rants about how V's the elven spawn of Satan.)

No act puts you beyond redemption. It just means there is further to go. Well that's my opinion anyway.

I would say, NO, he died a long time ago, because Soon's been dead for about 70 years, and his name wasn't on the rota, and how would he know the familicide would hit him in time to prepare for it?

and NO, V is not beyond redemption, but right now that means saving the world, and not freaking out.

Missed the first one, but that's okay, because my answer would be "maybe." I'm not convinced one way or the other, given we still haven't seen anything indicating his precise fate (his body does not seem to be among his family's).

For the second, strictly theoretically, yes, just as was always the case before we knew the extent of the non-Dragons killed by her spell. Will she be? I wouldn't hazard a guess. It sure as hell can't be done easily - again, just as was always the case before we knew the extent of the non-Dragons killed by her spell.

I think she will redeem hirself. Either through blood and fire (Heroic Sacrifice by holding off Evil) or Traveling back in time to stop her familicide (or save the resistance).

Since you used the word "ever", I'm going to answer Yes, with the clarification that this redemption will not take place before the end of the comic.

A poll is valuable for anything determined by opinion - elections, the market, etc. They have no value on matters of fact.

If Girard is dead, we can't vote him back to life.

Not at all. In theory, if Rich read the thread and the question was something about a long-running plot point and he wanted to gague reader reaction (remember I'm talking metaphorically; I don't think this would ever happen), he could see what conclusions his readers are drawing and possibly deciding about his next move to further confound them or whatever.

I don't personally believe there needs to be a purpose of it; I just like seeing how fellow readers react to things and what opinions or theories they have.

That's not the point. The point is precisely to compile general opinions - to ask whether the various posters here think Girard is dead, not to indicate that the poll will decide whether Girard is dead or not.

As to whether Girard is still alive, unsure, but leaning toward Yes.

Can Vaarsuvius be redeemed? Yes, yes, a million times yes. I'd be sorely disappointed if she weren't.

For purposes of the Order of the Stick, Soon gave us a pretty good working definition. Redemption requires recognizing you did wrong, apologizing to the people you wronged, and making restitution unto them. It does not imply abolution in the sense that your soul is cleansed of its sins, or that you forgive yourself for having committed them.

That doesn't seem like he was making it a forum-wide rule, just in that case. And if discussion remains civil, then I don't think it will be a problem. We're all having calm, reasonable discourse here, and if things get heated there'll just be a new rule saying you have to submit your vote with no accompanying comment or justification whatsoever.

This, accompanied by VERY specific questions might be a good way to keep the thread going without risking breaking forum rules.

The IFCC's estimate of only a 50-50 chance of "ending up with V's soul anyway"
    http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0668.html

leads me to say, in the context of OoTS, Yes, it is possible.

As to Girard being alive- I'd say No (my estimate is that it's somewhat less probable than him being dead).
