Re: OOTS Polls (feat. Favourite NPC Tournament)
No, Tarquin saw Nale crumple in the face of the ambush and he doesn't trust him to lead anymore. Nale is downtrodden enough to let him lead.
Yes, any target of the arrow would have worked. She was sure to hit someone in the narrow corridor.

Re: OOTS Polls (feat. Favourite NPC Tournament)
No. It seems like he has only been playing lip service to following Nale, but with this latest debacle Tarquin will be hard pressed to maintain even that facade. Much more likely he will lead outright.
Overall effective? -- yes. I agree with Smolder's assessment above, I think that the smokestick would have worked no matter where it hit -- I don't think they would have used a trigger that only works by the arrow being grabbed while in flight. Conversely, would it have worked as well as it did? -- no. By centering the smoke release on the most effective member (thus far from the Orders point of view, and probably in truth) of the Linear Guild, they were guaranteed that he would be within range of the released smoke and thereby hindered and less effective overall. This was less certain had it hit further along. I believe that there was a backup plan had the current arrow failed to be effective (maybe backup arrows? another form of distraction?). So I am not convinced they were 100% counting on him catching the arrow, but they were likely playing the odds with the option in mind. (Using his own hubris against him and actually having it work was a bonus!) One cannot forget that even the Order was shocked that it worked so well that they actually won (rendering Elan's contribution moot), so perhaps what happened was more along the lines of "best case scenario", but I think even if the ambush had been less effective, I think that the strategy was sound enough to be effective overall.Last edited by Kalrany; 2012-09-12 at 03:05 PM. 78% of all DM's start their first campaign in a tavern. If you're among the 22% who didn't, copy and paste this into your signature and tell us where you DID begin. The players were attacked individually on the road on the way to town by werewolves. To survive, they had to team up then and there without knowing anything about eachother (literally -- all character sheets were completed without other players' knowledge).

Male.
For Tarquin, I'm guessing he's a 19th-level Fighter.

Re: OOTS Polls (feat. Favourite NPC Tournament)
V is a hard one. I though female for the first couple hundred strips, but I have also read some good evidence for male and can see it falling that way as well. I would like an Undecided option, since I can see evidence either way. Since by word of the giant we will never be told, I think that the 3rd option is acceptable.
As far as Tarquin is concerned, I agree with the other before me: I'm guessing he's a Fighter, but the level is a hard call. I am going to error on the side of caution and say 18th level. There is solid evidence for 17+, but I am not sure I would go with full on epic therefore below 20... So 17, 18, or 19 averages to 18th, let's run with that.78% of all DM's start their first campaign in a tavern. Androgynous. If that's not an option, then female.

Re: OOTS Polls (feat. Favourite NPC Tournament)
Great questions oppyu!
1) I would prefer that V stay androgynous. Is that an option? How about gender-neutral? third option? V's gender has a strong impact on how you interpret the Belkar-New-Years-Eve-kiss. Either Belkar has some secret gay thing going on, or has a thing for elf chicks, either way it's disturbing, so I choose not to pick.
2) Lvl 20 Fighter. (Tarquin is all about the 1E gags, so he probably wouldn't have an unusual class, feat or prestige class that wasn't available back then. Hasn't display any magical or other abilities that would necessitate a multiclass)

I've always thought of V as male, but I think I'd prefer him/her to be female so Haley isn't the only girl.

Re: OOTS Polls (feat. Favourite NPC Tournament)
Will there be another interum poll or will this thread wait until the next posting? Just wondering...

Female. It honestly took me a long time to figure out that we weren't supposed to know V's gender.
Level 18 Fighter. Getting very close to Epic, but not there yet.
