    Default The Wheel Weaves... [OOC]

This is the OOC thread for the Wheel of Time game.

    {table=head]Player|Character|Race/Class
    Starbin|Luran Delance|Midlander (Ghealdan) / Woodsman/Armsman|
    Tyler|Lukas Maraven|Tar Valoner/Wilder|
    Holice|Berin Huhan|Midlander/Woodsman
    Neo_Leviathan|Leilanna al'Kay|Midlander Wilder
    NPC Currently|Anyanna Sharif|Domani (Bandar Eban)/Initiate|
    [/table]

    Rules:
-Countering weaves: As Prophecies of the Dragon.
    -Cutting weaves as UtDB.
-Shield: Revised version no. 2, but is an opposed Power-check, not concentration, and there is no opportunity to counter shield.
    -Noble revised class UtDB.
-Bend Dream and Dreamjump are combined into one feat- Improved Dreamwalk.
-Simultaneous Casting Feat (UtDB) approved. Only need to take it once and then cast as many weaves as you can from Multiweave feat (still limited to 1/3 caster level).
-Measuring the Power: As Prophecies of the Dragon, but using Caster level + 2 spellcasting stat modifiers. (So Int/Wis for Initiate, Wis/Cha for Wilder)
    -Linking as UtDB.

Once everyone has reaffirmed their interest I'll create the IC thread, hoping that will happen in 1-2 days (I'm an optimist at heart).

Edit: And can all channellers put their Power rating (Caster level+ Wis modifier + Int/Cha modifier [class dependant]) in the action points box, so it's easy for me to quickly work out shielding/who stands higher/lower than you.

    Edit: IC thread

Also, as per discussion of weapons, I traded one warder's sword and the long sword in for dual short swords. Works better with the rules, and it's probably closer to what Arafellins are supposed to be using. Guess he'll just have to be a blademaster with a tiny sword. He will, at some point, be a Dreamer, as well... except not quite.

al'Lan, for reference, this is the kind of thing that I was talking about re: a Wilder PrC.
I don't mind if you disallow it, I just had the idea get into my head and had to write it out :)

    Resurgent Wilder
The path of a Wilder is a varied and frankly dangerous one. Some never realise that they can Channel, some do and burn themselves out and some are killed when former friends realise what they can do.
Many manage to find a balance where they can wield the power safely and go on to live their lives, learning on their own or rarely collaborating with others to learn from each other.

However, Channeling organisations like the Aes Sedai are always on the lookout for Wilders, claiming them into their society, rigidly teaching them the 'right' way to channel and alternately belittling and berating any Wilder who claims that the can work on their own. Most Wilders claimed into such a society end up beaten into the shape that the organisation demands, or kicked out as a failure, their confidence shattered and their will beaten down.

A few however, reject the rigidity of such teachings. Some few Wilders believe that the path of the Windfinder, Asha'Man or Wise One is not the only way, that there is room in the Power for instinct, self-discovery and personal freedom.
These people aren't content to sit back and just learn enough to get by safely, they actively seek to learn the ways of the One Power, experimenting with weaves and pushing themselves to the limit. These Wilders believe they know the truth: The structured, rigid paths taught by Channeling organisations merely restrict what should be the natural growth of someone's talent. Resurgent Wilders are to Aes Sedai or similar individuals what a mighty Oak in a wild forest is to a carefully sculpted hedge in a noble's garden.

    Requirements:
Skills: Concentration 8 ranks. Weavesight 8 ranks
Class: Must have at least one level in Wilder, and must have more levels in Wilder than any other base class
    Feats: Forced, Skill Emphasis: Concentration
    Channeling: Two or more Affinities
Special: A Resurgent Wilder must reject any formalised, structured teaching. If they are an Initiate they must reject the organisation involved (such as running away from the Wise Ones, quitting the White Tower, etc). This tends to be public within the organisation, and typically cuts the person off from any benefits they had with that organisation.
A Resurgent Wilder may have an individual teacher that they learn from for a short time (no more than a couple of months), but the emphasis must be on self-discovery rather than rigid 'lessons'. Resurgent Wilders may learn weaves and other tricks from other channelers without restriction, as long as it isn't a teacher/student relationship.

Restriction: A Resurgent Wilder may not have any levels in a 'society' based Chanelling PrC such as Aes Sedai or Wise One (though they may have levels in classes such as Dragon Pairs, which do not require societal teachings)

    Class Features
Basic Statistics: A Resurgent Wilder's BaB, Saves, Defense Bonus, HD, Proficiencies, Skills and Reputation are all the same as the Wilder base class

Chanelling: A Resurgent Wilder adds their PrC level to their Wilder level when determining Weaves per Day, and continues to lean one additional Weave per level.

    Abilities:
    1) Euphoric Channeling: As the Wilder lets their emotions and instinct guide them, they form an emotional connection with the One Power. This results in a single, dominant emotion whenever they Channel. Usually (though not always) this emotion is linked to the emotion that formed their Block. Choose one positive emotion, feeling or similar effect (such as elation or 'adrenaline rush'), whenever you Channel that emotion is brought to the fore and overrides all others (if this would counter your Block, such as someone with a "Must be Afraid" block choosing "Courageous", this does not affect your ability to hold the Power, but you must still satisfy your Block conditions to embrace it).
You are immune to any Emotional effect while Channeling
    2) Iron Resolve: A Resurgent Wilder is used to always pushing their boundaries and becomes somewhat inured to the potential strain of such things. You gain a bonus equal to your Resurgent Wilder level on all Overchannel checks.
    3) Extra Affinity: You gain Extra Affinity as a bonus feat
    4) Flash of Insight: Your self experimentation leaves you free to discover things others thought gone. From now on every second Resurgent Wilder level (including this one) you may learn any one "Rare" weave.
    5) Insightful Discovery: Allowing the Power to guide your teaching yields many secrets. You may immediately select one "Lost" Talent or one "Lost Ability" feat that you already have the "Latent" feat for
    6) Unrestrained Channeling: A Resurgent Wilder's connection to the Power is difficult for another to keep shielded. You gain "Breaking a Shield" as a bonus feat.
    7) Improved Iron Resolve: Your gain your Iron Resolve bonus against all Overchannel Fortitude saves.
    8) Simultaneous Weaving: You gain Multiweave as a Bonus Feat. If you already have Multiweave, your number of simultaneous weaves is equal to your Wisdom modifier.
    9) Insightful Discovery: Allowing the Power to guide your teaching yields many secrets. You may immediately select one "Lost" Talent or one "Lost Ability" feat that you already have the "Latent" feat for
    10) Boundless Channeling: You are so adept at Channeling outside what others consider the 'restrictions' of the Power that even Talents themselves become less important. You may now learn powers outside your Talents of up to level Four. (If you have all the Affinities for the power in question, this allows you to learn a power that is normally level five).

I tried to keep it on a par with Aes Sedai. What do people think? :)

The first thing that struck out at me is that the Lost Ability Feats aren't at all connected to the One Power, so it seems strange that a channeling class should grant access to them as bonus feats. Lost Talents, sure, but how does working outside the norm with the OP suddenly allow you to become a Viewer or Sniffer?

Aside from that, I like it. I don't know how well it fits the setting, as we haven't seen anything like this (that I can recall) anywhere in the series, but it makes sense that these people could be out there.

Ah yes, that's right. The "These special abilities are all only for those with the Power" thing was quite debunked in the last few books.

Shall switch that to Lost Talents then :)

Right that makes ten, and since Moranica promised me a character would be up a day and a half ago, if he wants to join it will be in a second wave.

So IC thread going up (see first post)
-There will be a seperate thread for Tel'Aran'Rhiod.

Neo Leviathan: I like the class, but after Level 5 I feel that some of the abilities are a bit off.
(Also as a side note I think there should be more danger to this class as only 1/4 of wilders survive and then you are increasing the amount of power you want to handle).

Boundless channelling doesn't give me a problem, as you're level 15 by then so haven't got that long to learn new weaves, and you'll probably already have chosen quite a few talents. I also like the Lost ability feats, but I think you should still need the Latent feat to take any lost ability (since most PrCs give a single bonus feat at a level).

I just wanted to check that the weaves they could learn were only Rare and not Lost? You should have travelling by then, but I don't want you suddenly having more knowledge than the forsaken.

    6) Unrestrained Channeling & 8) Unrestrained Power. My problem with these two is that just being a wilder won't actually make you stronger in the one power (which is what power rating is).

Simultaneous weaving is alright, but I think you should change it to only your wisdom modifier, so Wis 16 can perform 3 weaves.

Ok so I do like the class but here would be my revisions (feel free to suggest other things).

I would suggest putting Forced in as a bonus feat (ignoring the level requirement) at a low level, maybe 1?
Split up Iron resolve, so at 2nd level it affects the concentration checks but not the fortitude ones (You are more practiced at handling flows of greater strength, but if they go wrong it's going to hurt still)
    3,4,5 fine.
6: Break Shield bonus feat instead.
7: Iron Resolve applying to fortitude saves
8: Simultaneous weaving change to just Wis modifier, not Wis + number of multiweave feats.
    9 & 10 fine.

Hrm. Any idea how that would be addable to the class?

Definitely only Rare ones, not Lost ones :)

    6) Unrestrained Channeling & 8) Unrestrained Power. My problem with these two is that just being a wilder won't actually make you stronger in the one power (which is what power rating is).
Good point, somehow I thought that Power Rating was how 'noticable' your Power was.

And I have no idea how I missed the Break a Shield feat. That's definitely what I want

Simultaneous weaving is alright, but I think you should change it to only your wisdom modifier, so Wis 16 can perform 3 weaves.
    That works.

I did consider this, but one of the requirements of Forced is you can't take it after 5th level, so if you're going to take it, you've already got it.
Hrm. Ok, how about this. Swap Forced to a pre-req rather than Multiweave, and have Improved Multiweave be "You gain Multiweave as a bonus feat. If you already have it, your number of simultaneous weaves is equal to your Wisdom modifier.

Split up Iron resolve, so at 2nd level it affects the concentration checks but not the fortitude ones (You are more practiced at handling flows of greater strength, but if they go wrong it's going to hurt still)

    9 & 10 fine.
    Updating post now...

Also, regarding the IC post, should those of us not in the tower party just post where we are likely to be at this time, and what we're doing, or did you want us in specific places?

Through splitting up Iron resolve (should have mentioned that at the time)

Though I'm not sure about this, it seems quite restrictive as it forces you to spend one of your feats on a latent ability, but giving you both at once seems too good.
How about, the first time (level 5) requires the latent, but the second time (level 9) it doesn't?

Hrm. Ok, how about this. Swap Forced to a pre-req rather than Multiweave, and have Improved Multiweave be "You gain Multiweave as a bonus feat. If you already have it, your number of simultaneous weaves is equal to your Wisdom modifier.
Yes to all! (though if you want to take this at level 6 that means you may need to change your feats).

You can be wherever you want to be, just make sure it's mentioned in your post obviously.

Hrm. How necessary would that be though? Chances are if you're going to take a Lost Ability, you're going to already have the Latent by then (and it's probably the same one that you picked at lvl 5). Plus, are you even allowed to have more than one Latent Ability?

I think you are allowed more than one Latent, but unles you're a dream walker there aren't often progressions for most Lost things. Especially as it is your 9th level ability, I thought it could be stronger. But whichever you prefer.

So I'm sort of stuck with how to make an entrance. I'm thinking of having Ardent lodged at the Blue Lily already, because that's where it looks like the PC's are converging so far.

I'm assuming that the Setting Sun is in the 2mk/day category, which is something he can't afford.

Also, would you allow synergy from bluff and sense motive on Profession Gambling? Probably won't really enter play, but it's a key component of the concept, so having a high modifier is appropriate.

Since there are 10 characters, there is still a strong possibility of two parties. You don't have to go to the Blue Lily if you don't want to, there is stuff to do in Katar other than standard tavern meeting so feel free to go somewhere else and we will see who ends up together- obviously if you all end up going the same way you'll likely merge into one party.

Yeah Setting Sun is 2/mk a day ish.

Yes you can have synergies for both.
