[CR!NEX] Crossroad OOC - Giant Vixens of Venus Edition
Alrighty, then. This is the OOC thread for Crossroad. Wasn't going to make one, because I figure the thread will go like Nexus High and swiftly lose everyone's attention in a few weeks, but some folks said it was taking up too much of the Nexus OOC thread's space, so here we go. I won't bother with a fancy intro or explanation of how OOC threads work or anything like that; you guys should know the drill by now, and I already spoiled you with the OP for the main thread.

Re: [CR!NEX] Crossroad OOC - Giant Vixens of Venus Edition
That's cool. So many people have been calling it "The Crossroads."
I still don't know what to do with Harley, yet. She's stuck in a swamp. I was thinking maybe having her finally get out, only to arrive in a completely burnt-out forest, with only ash, cinder, and fallen burnt-out logs. Maybe call it the Ashland?
But first, I need something for her to do besides sit around by herself.Last edited by 5a Violista; 2013-11-12 at 12:42 PM.

Re: [CR!NEX] Crossroad OOC - Giant Vixens of Venus Edition
Those people know what they're doing wrong. There's already too many to correct, I'll just let them make feeling guilty about it their own responsibility.
Anyways, on an unrelated note, I remembered a factoid I heard years back, which is suddenly relevant again, as I'm using my lordly god powers of godliness to retroactively make it canon for this setting. Anyways, the thing I remembered was that early earth had a lot more oxygen content than it does today, allowing for hugemassive dinosaurs and stuff like that. A decent sort of handwavey excuse for Crossroad's wildlife being as horrendous and varied as it is.
Also, from what our sciencey types have been telling me, it also means giant bugs, a more efficient metabolism (get more energy from food, heal faster (not Wolverine fast, but still)), and greater ease in starting fires. Important things to note, especially that fire one.

Re: [CR!NEX] Crossroad OOC - Giant Vixens of Venus Edition
I'll be introducing a character of my own relatively soon, but until then, would you be interested in a quick scrap with an NPC monster? It could be an even fight until my character shows up to help fend it off, if Harley's the collaborative type, or they could try to take each other out in a three-way melee.
EDIT: Whoops, got ninja'd. Perhaps someone else, then.Last edited by ImpSyndrome; 2013-11-12 at 01:14 PM.

Re: [CR!NEX] Crossroad OOC - Giant Vixens of Venus Edition
The Marsh is not The Swamp.
The Marsh is a marsh, while The Swamp is a swamp. They're similar, but not exactly the same.
Edit: Wikipedia:
"A marsh is a type of wetland that is dominated by a herbaceous rather than woody plant species...they are often dominated by grasses, rushes or reeds. If woody plants are present they tend to be low-growing shrubs. This form of vegetation is what differentiates marshes from other types of wetand such as swamps [...] and bogs[....]"
"A swamp is a wetland that is forested..."
So, one is a wet meadow, the other is a wet forest.
That would be fine, and possibly exciting.
Edit: Extra oxygen is a good thing. Good plan, Magtok.Last edited by 5a Violista; 2013-11-12 at 01:34 PM.

OK, I'll try to have something posted relatively soon.
EDIT: Got it posted, but it looks like I took too long and now I'm late for the party...Should I back out and edit/delete my post, or is there maybe some way to keep it going without interfering too much with the rest of you?Last edited by ImpSyndrome; 2013-11-12 at 03:08 PM.

Re: [CR!NEX] Crossroad OOC - Giant Vixens of Venus Edition
I made a few monsters so far, though I by no means expect to be controlling all or most of them. Mostly I was just aiming a kick in the pants here and there. The wildlife in Crossroad isn't normal.
None of it is normal.
All of it is weird somehow. And most of it is dangerous somehow. That means the cute little bunny with the unicorn horn is probably venomous, so watch it.
So yar. People? Feel free to make and control your own monsters. If I can do it then you can, too!
So, I'm confused. Was I supposed to do the UFO site myself or am I expecting someone?
EDIT OF DOOM!
Rebo's Monster in the Darkness aka The Grue is (effectively) a unique creature that would be unwise to run afoul of. It will only appear in pitch blackness, so if someone has a light source then they'll be able to keep it at bay. Rebo strongly advises against trying to fight The Grue, as only Vin Diesel is able to fight a Grue and survive.
Oddly enough it won't eat someone in their sleep, though.Last edited by Rebonack; 2013-11-12 at 03:21 PM.

If I can offer a possible source of inspiration, Alien Planet (and the book it was based on) offers some really interesting ideas.
Also that one series The Future is Wild, whose creatures are a lot closer to "normal" Earth animals (since they are normal Earth animals in speculative futures).🔜 🆒️ 🚰

Re: [CR!NEX] Crossroad OOC - Giant Vixens of Venus Edition
I see no reason to back out. If you want to, sure. It's just that your monster will have two injured PCs to terrorize (and possibly another monster - depending on how it feels about the bright flashing PC).
Well, correction: It also means posting rate will be decreased to the speed of the slowest of 3, rather than the slowest of 2 posters. So, if you were expecting a lengthy battle, try to shorten it up a little bit.
This thread is also rather interesting.
For many of the other RP threads, the OoC thread filled up faster than the IC thread. In this case, it's the opposite. Interesting.Favorite sports:

As there is currently a light source The Grue will not approach. How fortunate!
The Grue also leaves other wildlife alone for the most part. It exists for the purpose of hunting and haunting the PCs.Warning! Random Encounter™ detected!

Re: [CR!NEX] Crossroad OOC - Giant Vixens of Venus Edition
Hey Arkh, just pointing it out, but the forest was described as being pretty far away from the Marsh. Xenna would be running for around a mile.
Also, is it a running gag that you seem to be physically throwing almost all your characters at people? They seem unable to go anywhere without literally running into people.Spako Highclaws by Ceika.

Re: [CR!NEX] Crossroad OOC - Giant Vixens of Venus Edition
Awww, dang...I was kind of looking forward to seeing what horrible things the Grue could do to a tough thing like a marrow-fang. Oh well, maybe some other time. I'll need a minute to post for the marrow, but I'll try to keep the encounter short; after all, we don't want any PCs dying at this stage, I'm sure, and an endurance battle probably wouldn't be good for their health.

Re: [CR!NEX] Crossroad OOC - Giant Vixens of Venus Edition
I've decided on a character! A Twinborn from Scadrial, meaning she can use one Feruchemical ability and one Allomantic ability, not that those likely mean much to anybody who hasn't read Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy & spin-off.
Anyway, everyone else seems to have done a pros & cons thing, so I'll do one too.
SpoilerSteelrunner- Ability to store speed in something made of steel and access it later.
Pros: Makes her much faster, to aid her in outrunning things. Lots of speed stored up.
Cons: The faster she moves, the faster she runs out. The speed is stored in several steel objects kept about her person, and if they're stolen she is powerless until she can retrieve them, or finds something else to store speed in.
Pewterarm- Ability to increase her strength, stamina and pain threshold by 'burning' ingested pellets of pewter.
Pros: Makes her stronger, tougher and more resistant to damage.
Cons: Relies on a limited supply of pewter. It's a very precise alloy.
Aluminium Foil-Lined Fedora
Pros: Protects her from Allomancers tampering with her emotions.
Cons: Won't work reliably with other forms of emotional/mental tampering.
Revolvers- x2
Pros: Let her kill things from far away!
Cons: Only 36 bullets, no means to produce more.
Hunting Knife
Pros: Makes her more dangerous in melee.
Cons: Unlikely to do more than annoy anything bigger than she is.
Any thoughts?Last edited by Earl of Purple; 2013-11-12 at 03:52 PM.

Re: [CR!NEX] Crossroad OOC - Giant Vixens of Venus Edition
Time to mention the bioms again, I think. The Crossroad contains many bioms. Below are listed some (but not all) of them.
1) Gardens: The gardens are what they sound like. Pleasant rolling hills with soft grass, fruit trees, and plenty of vegetable plants. Small to medium game is abundant here and relatively easy to catch due to a conspicuous lack of predators. However, building material tends to be sparse.
2) Meadows: Glorious meadows with zillions of wild flowers and lots and lots and lots of bees. Or at least things that superficially resemble bees that are the size of a small rat. The honey in their hives is sweet, their larvae full of protein, and the comb wonderful for making candles and torches. Good luck getting at it without being stung to death.
3) Forest: Trees, trees, and more trees! And mushrooms. There's plenty of building materials to be found in the forest in the form of wood and stone, but food sources are a bit lacking unless one feels inclined to take a risk with the mushrooms, a slightly larger risk with one of those tentacle-deer, or take an even bigger risk with the spiderbearpigs.
4) Grasslands: Oodles of grasses for building fires or weaving rope, the grasslands also boasts an impressive small game population. And, unfortunately for you, a giant grumpy grazing beast population. And since it has a giant grumpy grazing beast population it also has a giant hungry hunting beast population. Best watch yourself or you might become a snack.
5) Stone Fields: The rocky biom is the place to harvest stone and metals. Though whether or not you can actually smelt said metals is another question completely. Think in terms of that weird planet where Captian Kirk battled that lizard guy. Giant, stilt-legged bird things prowl these lands hunting for little scurrying reptiles. Though they probably wouldn't object to a meal of lost traveler, either. Food is pretty sparse unless you're willing to take some crazy risks.
6) Marsh: Pleasant fields with plenty of streams and ponds. This is the perfect place to gather reeds, go fishing, or snag a few frog's legs. Just be cautious about the deeper ponds. There's no telling what might be lurking in their murky depths.
7) Dunes: Really big sand dunes! Some are held in place with fir trees and oodles of moss, some with grasses and succulents, and still others are free-roaming. The dunes are abundant with unicorn-horned jackalope, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and more purslane than you can shake a stick at. If you go all the way to the rocky sea shore you can collect kelp and battle historically accurate giant crustaceans.
8) Cavern: The spooky underground! The cavern is full of limestone, weird crystals, and luminescent edible giant mushrooms that makes anything that comes out of you glow in the dark. Probably wise to avoid the caverns unless you're packing a light source, as it has plenty of pitch-black areas that will attract The Grue. And that's not even counting all the other terrible things down there.
9) Swamp: It's like a forest, except with waste deep water, giant leeches, flesh eating fungal horrors, and other more unpleasant things. The swamp is just plain awful, so that means there should be something really valuable hidden in its depths, right?
10) Ruins: The scattered, decaying remains of some long-lost civilization. Probably a good idea to steer clear of here unless you feel inclined toward dying horribly.Warning! Random Encounter™ detected!
