I didn't quite manage to follow all of that, but *hugs*. If there's one thing I've learned in the last couple of months, it's that a lot of the things people do to make themselves/others "tougher" just tend to damage them. :/ *More hugs*

My dad used to put me in wrestling holds to "toughen me up". Of course, he wasn't a wrestler - he was an Army engineer. So, he didn't quite know what he was doing, and he was pretty strong.

He never injured me or anything, but he typically pinned me face-down (that is to say, face-against-the-carpet), holding at least one of my limbs just a little further than he probably should've. Sometimes he told me to tap out, other times he wanted me to say "uncle".

Some of those times he wasn't paying attention, so I'd end up not being able to do the thing he told me and having to do the other thing instead. That didn't usually work. Then again, I usually ended up having to do the original thing more loudly anyway, so I guess that went about the same in any case. Eventually he started telling me not to do those things, but if I didn't he would just hold me there (often cutting off my circulation) until I did.

And then he wondered why I have personal space issues.

Sorry about that, I wasn't able to get any sleep after that flashback...

Well, they are going to the constitutional court, which has a very high reputation for fairness. While local courts are hit and miss.
And Germany has civil law, which means that local courts can make descisions case by case without establishing a legaly binding precedent. The constitutional court is different, as it does not make case by case descisions, but sets landmark descisions for the entire german legal system. If the court makes a descision, lower level judges lose a great deal of freedom in making descisions about specific cases.

If a local court makes a crazy descision, that's usually a local affair. But when the constituinal court makes a controversial descision, you then have a national controversy. As bad as it is for the affected people, getting the constitutional court to adress the issue may actually be a great milestone for the whole transgender rights issue. Because as it is, it's an issue that is pretty much not adressed at all, which creates the legal vacuum in which people become victims of government agencies.
Either we are getting more legal recognition, or we have a new public debate. And the lack of public debates is the greatest obstacle to queer rights we have in germany.

But yeah, the court and government agency in this case are living in the stone age. It does actually quote "forced supression of gender atypical behavior". And the family is not unreasonable. According to the article, they requested neutral expert evaluation by specialists to check if the transgender behavior was forced by outside influence, but it was denied on the grounds of being unneccessary. You can't really get away with such things in this country, even with an attitude of don't ask, don't tell towards queer issues.

I mean, the sound of a child, especially a baby-infant-thing, crying is designed to set our teeth on edge so that we'll do anything to make it stop. However, if it isn't ours, then there's nothing we can actually do to make it stop. And if the parents ignore it and it's in public, then one either has to leave or stay and do what one was doing while one's teeth are on edge because one's brain is yelling at them to make the annoying sound stop.

So it seems like for at least some people that being set on edge by the crying then gets applied to the acts that relieve/temporarily stop the crying, such as feeding the kid, so it becomes more than it is due to not having an acceptable valve for getting rid of the stress of being around strange babies and then becomes something at the cultural level due to mutation and such.
The nipples being PG-13 thing? I first noticed it...ah, geez, maybe four years ago? I was visiting a friend in Maine and we were watching a movie and then suddenly nipples. And I was all, "Dude I thought this was PG-13," and he was all, "Yeah, it is o_O".
It's a pity that out of all the teenage guys in the world to unexpectedly get to see a woman's nipples it had to be one asexual guy and one gay guy.

Breastfeeding: A process which by its very nature has the nipple covered, which is considered unacceptable by some because nipples are involved. Despite social stigma, intended to prevent infants from starving to death.

Am I missing any salient points here? Because I feel like I'm taking all the crazy pills. And it doesn't help that I just watched a movie which seems to be a dramatization of several real life discussions I've had about my age, and which may (on checking who wrote it and where he lived) have been inspired by such a discussion in a prior incarnation.

I guess I'm saying that my grasp on reality is kind of tenuous at the moment and I have a low tolerance for human nonsense right now.

Wow I didn't expect you to think that was a serious question. Like that time the other day when I randomly asked somebody which was her favorite nipple, and she didn't take me seriously, that's how I was expecting this to go.

And I think breastfeeding is fantastically awesome and I have huge respect for everyone who gives a good try of it, and especially for people who continue breastfeeding for the recommended two years.

I was breastfed but not dropped on my head! I have my doubts about the beneficial effects of head trauma!
Most of my smartest friends have had early-childhood head trauma too! That's proof that it works!

And yes, formula doesn't hold a candle to breastmilk. It's good that we have formula, and it's good that it's getting better and better, but it's never going to be as good as breastmilk until we get biological nanotech going really well. Because if a breastfeeding dyad (mammy and baby) are out and about and they are exposed to germs, the mammy's body makes antibodies really really quickly and puts them in the breastmilk first, so the baby's immune system gets a targeted boost against that particular infection. Even if we made formula with the perfect breastmilk balance of nutrients, we can't make it magically protect against the exact germs the baby is being exposed to right now.

Also, I do agree with Coidzer that our culture means that adults are often uncomfortable around babies. (This is why we should have mixed age groups at basically everything, so adults are used to children and children can learn from a big group of older children and adults.) However, there's a much bigger backlash against breastfeeding than, say, parents with little babies bottlefeeding in public. Which suggests that the breastfeeding discomfort is to do with the mother's breasts rather than the presence of the baby at all. We're taught that breasts are for sex, and we don't see them being used for babies, so even though we know intellectually (well, most of us) that breasts are used for baby milk, some people get squicked out about it and insist that it's indecent.
In my opinion breasts are primarily for feeding babies because that's what they're for. If people want to make them more efficient by giving them extra uses, that's awesome, but they should let them be used for feeding babies.

Sometimes living in Germany isn't so bad. If you want to sunbathe topless in a public place, nobody will care. Some may care, but won't say anything because they know they will be the ones who make other people feel offended.
If there's somewhat of a justified and nonsexual reason for a woman to be topless, it's fine.
I think we successfully got it down to differentiate between sexual and nonsexual context, and that's the only thing that really matters.

Aww! Well, you could dry-nurse a baby, for comfort-nursing. Maybe in private, though. I imagine since it's hard enough for lactating human women to breastfeed in public, a member of an alien species is going to attract even more attention.

Parents are some of the most fallible people ever, along with teachers. Well intentioned as they may be, they still can mess people up.

For example, when I was younger, I didn't like roller coster, swing boats, anything like that. I even have/had a medical reason for it. I have only been on one roller coaster in my life. I didn't like it but I got through it.

A few years after that, we went to a theme park in a place called Parc Astrix (its in Belgium) and they had a ride there, and I was going to try and go on a rollercoaster there. Long story short, last moment I paniced, really paniced, and I just couldn't do it. My dad went to sit down in the ride, and I had to step into the cart thing and onto the other side. He grabbed me to steady me, but I paniced, thinking he was going to try and pull me onto the ride. I freaked out and since then, I haven't even been able to even attempt a rollercoaster.

Simple thing, but it has put me off them for life. I know that isn't as bad as the wrestling thing.

    Also *hugs Arachu*.

And in other news, I think some of my extended family think I am gay. My sister was telling them how I was going as my friend Stephen's date to the prom.
It is kinda a sneaky way to get me into the 6th form prom, because I would be going, had I stayed on another year at the 6th form, but I dropped out and decided a college would be better for me. Just wouldn't get the A levels at a 6th form.

Do I need to link us to some Megadeth? I can do that .

And Lea, what do you think of the OOTS-style avatars? I'm sure one of us (I suppose I can get back in business) could make you one. It's up to you, of course.

And now they're thinking of printing t-shirts! That's a great idea - make yourselves easy to spot! You sure you don't want to carry a baseball bat so you can give it to the chief bigot. If you're trying to make their lives easier you might as well go the full nine yards.

Let's get to work then. Inspiration? what do you want it to be based on? Your current avatar? If it is, then do you have a full body version? Are there any possible alternates you'd like to have "injected" into the final product?

I'll try and juggle this with my schoolwork. If anybody has Inkscape templates, I don't. Otherwise, I can make one.

    Poses?
