3.5 Political Adventure [IC]

Caladeran nodded to Sel, unwrapping his chain as he prepared to follow his companion across. Once there, he would motion for her to open the door, but keep to the side, so he could both attack any threats and also protect her from attack.

[Sgt. Cookie]

((OOC: Apologies, folks. Now that my play is over, I can resume normal posting))


"Miss Shiel, what happened to your bodyguard? The one we sent here?£

[al'Lan Mandrag]

"He was carried off by Thevya. I don't know more than that. But I doubt it's good."

[Sgt. Cookie]

"How do you mean "carried"? As in, like a sack of meat, or led away under his own power?"

[al'Lan Mandrag]

"Well I was tied up at the time," she responds drily, "But it sounded like he didn't put up too much of an argument."

[Sgt. Cookie]

"I doubt that you will be safe here if that is the case. The guard knows what you told us, and thus Thevya might too. You won't be safe here for much longer Miss Shiel, I suggest that you gather some things and run. At least for a little while."

[Starbin]

Given Aquarius' focus on the murdering Maria, Caladeran simply shook his head and looked back at Selena, nodding inquiringly towards the door.

Seal tries to pull open the door and step back out of the way.

It's a small room though, even if it is only for storage. Door opens inwards.

The door swings back and these is a dark space ahead, though you can faintly see the other walls. The room is about 10ft by 10ft.

With a whisper and a flick of his wrists, lights suddenly appear in the room, moving around to illuminate the shadows.

"Identify yourself and surrender, and we will deliver you safely to the priests of this temple."

As Calderan makes the lights appear, you have time just to see a blurring figure leap out at you, daggers drawn.
One blade misses, but the second strikes squarely, wounding Cal.

I still had my spiked chain out; with low-light vision (since I'm guessing there's SOME light in the hall) wouldn't I get an attack of opportunity?"

Caladeran staggered back, surprised by the stabbing man. With a growl, he launched a counter-attack, murmuring words of power that ran down the chain.

If AOO is allowed, attack: (1d20+9)[22] / damage: (2d4+5)[10]. Then 5ft step to the side (hoping this allows Sel to flank). If a 5ft step doesn't give a flank, then he'll step directly away from the figure.

Standard Attack w/Arcane Channeling of Shocking Grasp. Attack: (1d20+9)[12] / Damage: (2d4+5)[9] + (4d6)[16] shocking damage.

Note, +3 to attack if target is wearing/carrying lots of metal. +2 to attack if flanking.

"Hey, knock it off!"

Selena attempts to chill the attacker's ardour, then pulls her dagger as she steps up behind him.

As I mentioned stepping back and made no mention of pulling my dagger yet, I don't think I was flanking before.

After he makes a FORT DC 17 save for half of (4d6+4)[19] (standard) she will pull her weapon as she moves behind him to flank.

I should have 14pp left of 25 after 6 healthlink, 1 detect, 4 chill.

You brutally take down the assailant, Cal's chain leaving a deep cut even before the assassin landed his first blow, and though Cal's second attack failed to leave any lasting effect, Seal's chill blast crumpled the man.

Seal looks around for any more surprises, keeping her dagger out, and prods the stabby guy with her boot.

"Anybody else looking to get demolished, you think?"

Spending this turn checking for more trouble (from the crumpled guy or anyone else, then I'll suggest we drag him into the priests for them to question, as he was hiding in their place, which is really no business of ours.

I'd like to stop by a psionic rock purveror on our way out of town. Speaking of which who had that wand of eleray?

The light from the hall and Cal's spell is enough to illuminate the small room, and Seal discovers no more enemies hidden within. There seems to be nothing more than a few boxes and crates stacked haphazardly.

((Sorry guys, been doing a Nuzlocke run. Really sorry.))

Feeling the effect of Seleina's psionics, he procides to the others.

Seeing the dead guy on the floor, he instinctively draws his rapier. "What the hell happened?"

[Starbin]

Caladeran snorted. "We opend a door, he jumped out and attacked us. We defended ourselves." Glancing at Sel, he nodded towards the priests. "Perhaps John can repeat his trick with the boy and find out who this man was, and why he attacked us."

[al'Lan Mandrag]

Brother John pops his head out on hearing his name mentioned, and stares at the body with surprise and not a little trepidation. "He's not one of ours. They must have left him behind: but why didn't he come straight for us, he must have known we were here..."

On your urging he goes to check the body, and after a pause announces: "He's still breathing, but you did a serious number on him."

[Starbin]

Calderan shook his head for not checking the man for a pulse. "Then let us make sure he is limited in his ability to threaten us."

Cal will tied the man up, figuring someone else will figure out how to stop him from bleeding to death. He also removed any weapons he could find, careful not to knick himself with any blades or needles the man might be holding.

You manage to tie him using the supplies from the two rooms, and the the rope that had already bound Maria, making him very secure.

With deft skill, Cal quickly sorts through the man's clothes, methodically removing a number of knives hidden in folds of his cloak and in the backs of his boots. There are also a number of needles sown into his clothing, and more sticking out of rings that he wears on his fingers.

Glancing at his companions, he frowned. "This man is an assassin ... or they were VERY afraid of what he might say should he be captured. Either way, I would recommend a full ... interrogation.

Does your lackey know this man?"

Caladeran inclined his head to wear Maria was (OOC - assuming she was in the other room)

[sdream]

"He might have been properly cautious about attacking a room full of people. Probably was waiting until you let your guard down and split up. You lot might want to stay safe in numbers until this unrest dies down... and maybe improve your security procedures."

[al'Lan Mandrag]

Maria looks at the man blankly, and shakes her head: "I have never seen this man before," she confesses.

Brother John simply nods at Seal's advice, and sends the priests back into the temple to scour for any others hanging around.

[Starbin]

Caladeran looked to Aquarius. "So will you interrogate him alone, or do you wish us in the room."

[Sgt. Cookie]

"Either suits me. Your call."
