As I prophisied! Coffee laughed at our speculation as to the survival of our dear Candleflame, and has had him die from a cantrip, so great is her glee in our misery.
(Also, Yikes. Now, I would just go "last words? I wanted a LAST MEAL. *laughs*. But seriously, this demon s going to eat my heart and chew my soul. SOMEONE has to think thats bad, right? *strangles, dies slowly*")Last edited by Mutant Sheep; 2012-11-26 at 11:04 PM.

Celebrate number 200. And having the person to be executed kill himself is rather strong message that he is trying to make to the citizens of Kago.

Better than seeing him say "Freeedom"!
SpoilerKinda remind me of Souldrinkers, a rebel spacemarines who believed that the Imperium is going corrupt and evil.
I forgot one worse example of Paladine, Black Templars from WH40k.
1. They are holy warriors
2. But they are okay with collateral damage while fighting aliens or heretics.Badly drawn helmet avatar drawn by me.

That was sad, but very moving as well. Praise to you, Miles, for choosing your own path, even when the only choice was in how to spend the final seconds of your life.

Now for the Funeral Music.
Edit: Now then, I hope Coffee read tactical books and tried not to be like the failure like Mookie (who broke Codex Tactics #10- Stay on hill and let them come and #2- If you have archers, order them to fire without mixing melee), Imperial Commander, and most scriptwriters of LOTR (especiall Codex #3-Fire at will during a siege). Hey! I think we can start codex of tactics for the Writers and artists to follow.
Codex of Tactics
#1- Formation is important in melee
#2- If you have archers, order them to fire without mixing melee
#3- Fire at will during a siege
#4- Use storming the castle as last resort
#5- Cover all flanks during defense
#6- Choke Points!
#7- Fire Support from either arrows or artillery when on assault
#8- Look for weakness and flanking points in enemy
#9- Cavalry are for flanking, not frontal assault
#10- When on hill, stay up and let the enemy come.Last edited by t209; 2012-11-28 at 01:43 AM.

Re: Murphy's Law 8: College? What About It?
I assume this is using d and d as a guide? Sun Tzu would agree with some, but, cavalry are certainly for frontal assault. Unless the enemy is pikeman who know how to fight horses, calvary DECIMATE infantry.
Never fire at will during a siege. Ammo is limited, every shot needs to count (Fire when you see the whites of their eyes, anyone?)
Always leave two flanks open. One that is obviously open, and a trap you are ready to spring. One that appears to be a screwup in orders that can be exploited, and is in fact a trap you are ready to spring.
Your archers should be placed somewhere where, if they get into melee, either they drop bows and fight melee, or your plan is already screwed, retreat.Writer, editor. See my works at http://theleakingpen.net

Re: Murphy's Law 8: College? What About It?
Rewrite and Addition?
What I mean by archers is that one mistake Mookie is that he never utilize archers to rout the fanatics? That Neidermeyer+ChrisChan+Imperial Commisar author decided to charge, which means he watched Braveheart instead of Sun Tzu's Art of War.
About Fire at will is that theSpoilerRohan at Helms Deep did not fire until orcs lined up at the wall, which is violation to rule of siege.Badly drawn helmet avatar drawn by me.

Re: Murphy's Law 8: College? What About It?
I meant defending as a response to tactical mistake in Helms Deep
After seeing your Blood Angel Pony, I think i have to make some execeptions to some military on Blood Angels (Due to their bloodlust), Dominic Deegan Orcs (Mookie's military brilliance of Zapp Brannigan), Starshiptroopers (Director's pet peeve on militaristic society and war movies' tactics), X-Com Players (due to lack of funds for closeair support and alien recovery), and WH40k (sometimes sword and human wave assaults can beat powerarmors and demons).SpoilerDefenders, who fired arrow after the orcs lined up while the book showed them firing at the orcs at line of range.Badly drawn helmet avatar drawn by me.

Re: Murphy's Law 8: College? What About It?
Heh, I'm really glad that I was able to elicit this kind of emotional response. And now I can answer the questions about how Miles' options here.
There really weren't many. He had used up nearly all his spells the day he was captured, and all his top-level spells (he was using a few Teleport scrolls there), and he spent a couple days being tortured in an antimagic field dungeon cell. When he was walked to the gallows, his hands were tied with dimensional rope, which is like a dimensional shackle but made with rope. In any case, no teleportation or dimension door or anything like that. In any case, even if Miles were able to cast it, odds are that Rust would have won initiative and used it. Also, escaping would have made him look like a coward. He had been saving an Animate Rope spell those several days and used it with his Sudden Still feat to loosen the rope and allow him to jump to a quick death.
And that's the other thing. As the title says, Miles realized that he was basically doomed, and was expecting this outcome. He wasn't afraid to die (well, not that afraid), and intended to twist the situation to his advantage. The Kago populace is Spartan in the sense that its people are encouraged to fight and die in glory for Kago, which is an empire crumbling at the edges. They lost a big chunk of their northern territory to Tobeem years ago. They're getting a bit twitchy from Rust's ascent, but are too loyal and afraid to really do anything about it. And Miles just made himself a martyr.
Requiescat in pace, Miles Lamplight, you half-mad genius. You felt so much more than you were willing to show.
EDIT: Aww, I just realized I beat Algaesian to the analysis. Still, do you want to say anything? Does anyone else have any other analysis of the situation? I really love hearing what other people have to say about my work.Last edited by CoffeeIncluded; 2012-11-28 at 12:35 PM.

Great comic. Really really great comic.
And great, now I have to compete with an emotional martyrdom by a popular character for my 200th comic.

Re: Murphy's Law 8: College? What About It?
Not sure if coffee was into MLP before the FiM craze (which I fully embraced after months of turmoil btw); but considering Coffee joined Giantitp one full year before FiM started airing, I'd guess she became interested in D&D first
Of course I might be wrong so I probably should let her answer

Re: Murphy's Law 8: College? What About It?
You're not wrong. Coffee and I were playing a play-by-post DnD game here on the forums before MLP aired. What originally started as "Hey Silver, can you look at my character and make sure I made them correctly?" to a "Hey, we have a spare slot. You should totally join this game."
And thus Saphrin and Lucrid started adventuring together.

Yeah, that's basically what happened. Originally, Erikaf happened to be Saphrin's best friend, and she started adventuring to look for her. Here...It ended up very differently.
