I think that's the trick with nude avatars and semi-nudes. Sometimes a strip of cloth or carefully placed hair can be so much more suggestive than bare flesh. It pays to leave more in the imagination and there's less risk of running foul of the rules.

This is what I've got...not sure if it's what you were going for.

Had been thinking more along the lines of the avi I have (ie background less, freefloating sand, that sort of thing), but considering a sand shapers method of resurrection the image you made fits remarkably well. Perhaps even better than my original idea. The only thing I might change is adding in some of the minor details (stripes and the belly color) but otherwise its good! Thank you very much.

I am curious though, how long does it typically take you guys to make these avis? I'm not much of an artist but I'm considering when I get the free time (probably not for at least a month or two, school + upcoming brother's wedding) taking a look at the guides that are up in the Avi Request thread and trying my hand at it.

Depends on the artist. Some only take an hour on their avie, and they're done. I am suspicious that Ceika is that fast. For most of the professionals here on GitP, I'd guess 3-8 hours, per avatar, depending on complexity. For the truly exceptional avatars, or for beginners trying for as good quality as they can muster, it might take 48 uninterrupted hours.

Those are the estimates of someone who doesn't truly know, though.

Now? About half an hour to an hour per avatar. Shorter time for less details and standard PC races (since I already have male and female avatars to steal the base proportions from) and longer for more details and odd races I have to make from scratch. When I first started, easily triple that time.

Actually, I was planning on making a new avatar after the week was over. I'll see if I can't do it tomorrow and go ahead and time myself. Since I'm not really an avatarist (avatartist? Are there avapopartists? Avapoptartists? ) that ought to give you a decent idea. Though I do tend to waste time on silly glow effects whenever I do art, so you might even manage to outpace me.
