    Beginning of Turn 24

Battle for the Continent: Just like they did almost 2 months ago, the Reforged Kingdom once again marches north against the rebellious Jack's Collective. This time however, they march with help, diverting soldiers of the San-Kesh and demon-kin to accompany them. The massive army, as expected, was immediantly met by hundreds of small-scale raids and guerrilla attacks, but the Reforged legions were simply too well organized and much too large for them to help. They had limited success against the cultists and demons, who were never trained to fight such tactics, but it was too little, too late. The legions continued their unstoppable march, burning farms and even going so far as salting the fields of the vale, "the breadbasket of the continent".

Soon, the Jacks turned to new tactics...Gassing the entire region with some new, weaponized gas. The Reforged legions, completely unprepared were quickly caght in pitched battles, even amongst the clouds of gas, fighting Jack's equipped with special protective masks. This tactic had great success, while it lasted, but eventually the stocks of gas were depleted, allowing them to continue the advance.

Despite the best efforts of the Jacks, it was not enough and the majority of their resources have been either destroyed or siezed by Reforged or allied soldiers. The dominance of the Reforged Kingdoms is now pretty much complete, other than scattered pockets in the far north, where monsterous war-bands are gathering. Only one question remains in the publics mind; where have Queen Lymsleia and other Jack leaders gone?

Palace Gossip: The rumours of a massive troll gathering a horde of monsters in the north have been confirmed!

Jack intelligence assets gutted! A massive effort by San-kesh assassins and an unknown force have succeeded in a daring operation aimed to cripple Jack intelligence.

Rumours state that Queen Lymsleia, hidden in one of the many safe-houses scattered throughout Jack lads, has only narrowly avoided death at the hands of the same assassins who struck Jack intelligence cells.

Thumbs up Re: [IC] TW:epic fantasy

EDIT: Cursed forum! This wasn't supposed to come up 'til tomorrow. Its not ready!

    End of Game

In a rare moment of freedom, Queen Lymsleia sighed as she overlooked the ocean from a tower of the former Venetian Isles. Everything she had worked so hard for had been for nothing. In the past few years she had undergone more hardships and betrayals than most people experience in their entire lives. The final straw, of course, being King Fuban of the Reforged Kingdom who had spent nearly five years getting her to trust him...Just so he could use her as a pawn in his twisted game of lies and deceit. That's what I get for trusting a demon. I should have listened to Sir Georg and Brother...

    ===

End of the War: The Reforged Kingdoms, long considered to be second only to the Queendom of Faluna in terms of deeds done for the good of the continent, continues its war to dominate the entire continent working alongside the demonic hordes of hell and their greedy allies, the Drow. The outcome of the battle is certain even before this latest campaign is launched and the last remaining pockets of major resistance on the part of the Jacks Collective quickly collapses as Ambassador Jack officially surrenders the resources of the Collective over to the mighty Reforged Kingdoms. In the south, just out of spite, the shadowy allies of King Fuban, the Drow, torched the elven forests that had stood for hundreds of years.

That left only the troll demi-god Ysmir and his horde of monsters and mercenaries in the north. Rallying his troops for one final offensive, King Fuban led the army north, deep into the frozen mountains that few dared to enter, routing the unorganized horde at every turn despite the fact that the monsters had the home field advantage here. The final battle took place at the site of the massive crater left behind by the Destroyer some years ago. Hundreds died as Ysmir used every ounce of his strength to inflict as many casualties upon the attackers as possible, until, using a newly forged sword of great power, King Fuban slew the demi-god himself. And so began the reign of the Reforged Kingdoms over the entire continent...

Granted, that wasn't the last of the Reforged problems, but these new ones required more than just a bit of brute force...

The "Assassination": Just days after Ysmir was crushed and the Jacks Collective had officially surrendered, King Fuban was the target of a well-planned and well-executed assassination attempt while in is castle. It started when a servant drugged his drink, somehow slipping it past all his security measures. However, it didn't kill him, thanks to his demonic constitution it barely affected him. So the conspirators decided to settle for more direct tactics and elected to send an entire squadron of turncoat soldiers against him in the dead of night. King Fuban, being the demonic warrior he is, wasn't killed in the quick and decisive manner originally hoped for and put up one hell of a fight. By the time a soldiers spear pierced his armor and mortally wounded the King, most of the assassins were dead by his hand. The remaining few assassins, hoping to make a quick escape to their contacts in the city and thinking he was dead meat anyways thanks to his wound, failed to take one thing into consideration.

As King Fuban lay there dying, internally bleeding thanks to the lucky thrust by the assassin, his sword, still in hand, began to glow with an eerie and unnatural light and King Fuban felt his insides knitting back together! The King was already well on the mend, just minutes after the attack and was back in fighting-shape by the time a palace physician had arrived. Those mages had done a damn good job on that sword.

The Resistance Movement: As things began to quiet in the west with the San-Kesh departing for the other continent, the Drow going underground and the demonic hordes going east to Nijonian Empire and not being seen again for some time, things were in motion that could not be undone...A massive surge of supporters of the former Jacks Collective, supposedly aided by Jack rebels, began their campaign to get rid of their demonic overseers.

They started in the south, where they were strongest and worked their way north, striking Corrupted forces wherever possible. There is some evidence that a few leaders of the rebellion had argued for a slower-paced move so as to not get themselves destroyed before they were ready to strike at the heart, but the anger and passion behind the mobs was too great to be held in check. And so it was that King Fuban personally led his legions south, scoring victory after victory, further cementing the faith and loyalty the soldiers had in their king. The final battle of this campaign, the final battle to determine Reforged dominance, was behind the walls of Melvaunia, the richest city on the continent. The rebels, being behind fortified walls, had the edge over the attackers initially. Then of course, King Fuban brought up his massive Leviathan airships which were still the most heavilly armed airships in the world and quickly reduced the walls to rubble. The legions of King Fuban swarmed into the city and killed all in their path.

End of the World: That may have been the end of one war but it was also the end of the world in a way. For, while the army was south, the demonic hordes that had been silent for several months, surged west across the dessert and completely destroyed everything in their path. Behind them...Was the literal mother of all demons! She had finally overcome the barriers between worlds and come forth to lead her children. The Reforged army raced north, hoping to stop the horde, but they never had a chance and the great Reforged Kingdom burned in the fires of hell...For King Fuban, knowing it was futile to even attempt to fight her, took himself, and a rather large portion of soldiers and battlemages loyal only to him, into hiding. Where exactly they went and how they escaped is anybody's guess but those few mortals that still exist in hiding, living on the very fringe of hell, think they are still out there somewhere. Maybe they will show up in another lifetime or even another world but no matter what, their part in this story is over.

Wonderous New Vistas: There is some good news though. It seems the Venetian Isles, the remaining Deep-Trolls and supposedly the leaders of the Jacks Collective managed to succesfully flee to a wonderous and beautiful new land of rolling hills and green pastures. They still live there today and are doing quite well for themselves.

    The Venetian Isles Epilogue

    The Evacuation

With the fall of the armies to the demonic hordes the venetian Isles undertake an utterly massive effort consuming all of their resources. It was truly the only time in their history that the Venetians were thankful that they weren't one of the top two powers. While their army might be gone, the reforged seemed content to let them sit and plot while they dealt with the collective.

The mages of the Isles spent the months after the defeat doing nothing but looking into planar lore that had once been thought lost. This effort was backed by the full might of the venetian economy; if the mages needed something to aid their research it was given to the regardless of cost. The efforts were harsh, with several mages dropping dead due to exhaustion.

However the efforts of the Venetian Mages were not in vain. They successfully recovered much old lore, and have gone farther into the art of the planes than even the great mages of the past ever went. And so it was that an utterly massive portal was opened on the Isles leading to somewhere where the reforged and their demons could not follow.

In their research the Mages of the Isles had shown that the realms of the gods and angels were not the only planes where the universe will bend itself to the will of a good man. there were others, perhaps even some uninhabited planes that would warp reality to insure that the evils of the demons would always fail to enter.

The mages opened up the largest portal in recorded history; large enough to evacuate their entire populace. The leadership had hoped that they would have enough time to evacuate their populace before the reforged could strike at them. As it turned out they were right to hope, as the Reforged had other more pressing issues to attend to. They found a land of rolling hills and green grass, and called the Plane Salus.

Over the next two years the people moved their entire population - and as much of their economic base as possible - to the new realm without issue. While their army had taken horrific losses their civilians had escaped completely unscathed. While they had lost the war their civilization would continue.

As the Reforged started their series of wars the trolls showed up through the temporarily active network. Although their troll god was strong they knew that the inevitable was to happen. So their surviving populace traveled to Solus with their allies. They were grateful at the aid, and one remarked that the Isles were the only humans with any honor.

As the world started to burn the portal was shut down, with the Mages and the last of the Venetian Isles going through, accompanied only by the leadership of the Jack Collective.

So it was that the three civilizations survived the death of the world, and started anew on another.

    1 Year Post Evacuation

Antonio da Parma looks out over the new land his people had been evacuated to. Although he briefly feels joy at the success of the rebuilding efforts that is quickly gone as he reads the report in his hand.

He had decided to reopen the portal to see what the situation was in the old realm. Less than half had returned, and the tales they told... He would have taken a drink had he not finished the bottle earlier when he read the report the first time.

"I knew it would bad, but this? I never though it would come to this. There is nothing for it, it must be done.

Although he doubted the necessity of this decision prior to now he was now certain that this was the right decision. He sent for an aid and told the mages to go ahead with their plans.

The mages of the Isles regretted the decision, but knew it was the right one. They would fully abandon the old world, and leave it to its fate. So they shut the portal down for good, and wove terrible magics upon it. It could now only be re-opened by those who knew its secrets, and those would never leave the most heavily guarded archives of the Isles. After their death none but the leader of the Isles would even know of the Vault's existence. No, the portal would never open again. No evacuees would be taken in, no aid given. The price of their salvation was the condemnation of those on the old world. And though it pained them they knew it was necessary.

    2 Years Post Evacuation

While it had taken some effort the portals for the Jacks and the Trolls were ready. Two portals stood next to each other on the edge of Venetian Territory.

The trolls walked through their portal, leading to the elemental plane of earth. The Isles wished them well, and would leave the portal open - if protected - for the time being, hoping for trade relations between the two recovering powers.

While some of the Jacks had gone through the portal others had stayed behind. Although surprising to see a split in the hive-mind the Venetians pay it little heed. The ones that stay behind preach a message about the good the hive-mind can do for people, and are achieving a surprising level of converts. Most pay them little mind as they focus on rebuilding their nation.

Given the orderly nature of the evacuation the Isles had mostly finished establishing themselves as a nation here in Salus. They had a functioning economy; if not quite what they had before. The advances in technology the trolls had provided were a great help in establishing a new economy. Relations were looking good in that direction.

    5 Years Post Evacuation

The Mages of the Isles discover a shocking fact. A plague has been spreading largely unnoticed among the populace, slowly turning them into members of the collective! It had been designed by the Jacks! Relations sour immediately. The Jacks are quickly kicked through the portal, and the portal between the realms is shut, and made to remain shut. Although the protections are not as severe as with the portal to the old world it would not be possible for the Jacks to re-open it.

    30 years post Evacuation

Antonio da Parma sits in his office contemplating the future of his people. He will retire tommorow, allowing for his successor to start leading the people. And what plans his successor had. such revolutionary ideas.

Public schooling in the arts of magic for one. Why he hadn't thought of that he would never know, but it had great potential to benefit the nation. Everyone capable of even the slightest bit of magic would be trained in it. Imagine the potential of a nation where so many can cast spells, even if few will ever reach the level of the great wizards.

Of course something needed to be done about the ones who can't perform magic for one reason or another. So in a joint venture with the trolls a school in the physical sciences was been set up. While it would never equal the trolls it would still give new opportunities to the people of the Isles. Some were even talking about combining magic and technology. Imagine that.

Additionally there would be a much needed restructuring of the military. Clerics and Paladins would be the new focus of the military. After all, when the forces of evil strike they were the best warriors and weapons available to their forces. Ammunition was to be blessed, and made harmful to those who profess evil. While their prior structure was based on fighting men and the other mortal races the new army would be structured to fight demons and other horrors that lurked in the planes. Never again would they let another world fall to the demons.

He also mused on the effects the plane was having on people. People seemed to be becoming more compassionate and helpful over time. It seemed that being residents of a good aligned plane was improving the people. People would work together more easily, they were more willing to help someone in need. Already crime had experienced a drastic drop from old world levels. He wondered what would become of his people in the long term if this would continue.

    200 Years Post Evacuation

The venetian Isles eventually gave up the name of its homeland, when all those who had lived there had died. Now called the Federation of Salus, they were a powerful nation. And above all else a good nation.

After two centuries the effects of living on a good aligned plane were quite pronounced. At one point someone had done a study using detect spells, and had found that evil people were virtually non-existent. even neutral people were fairly rare, with the effects of the plane becoming more pronounced each generation. Furthermore after they had been in Solus for a while they had been contacted by several celestials, and had opened a portal to allow relations with them. Although contact was still fairly rare for the average person there were an estimated 300 celestials in the capital of Solus at any given time. Additinally this led to a significant - though still small - portion of the population being Aasimar in nature. After all, if Aasimar occur with the infrequent contact the mortal worlds have how much more likely would it be in a nation that has regular contact with the upper planes?

Although progress has greatly slowed with the trolls miraculous advances having slowed due to their population losses on the old world there has been some success in combining magic and technology. The principles turned out to be completely conterintuitive, with the only reason for success being that the public school system. With so many people having access to magic it was inevitable that the basics would eventually be found - if only through sheer trial and error. With these principles figured out magi-tech development is starting to proceed to revolutionize the nation. Already power stations are being replaced by direct portals to the positive energy plane. With effectively unlimited energy the Federation has a very promising future ahead of it.

Through all this the Federation still remembers what happened to the old world. The secrets of the portal have been lost - even to the leaders - so they cannot return there yet, however they will not let that stop them from combating evil. There are other worlds out there. Worlds that could use the aid of the Federation to combat their own evils, so that when the demons come for them they may stand together and fight back. Let it never be said that the power of hell stand unopposed. Let it be known that the soldiers of the Federation will forever stand against them, and aid all those others who would do the same.

    Deep Troll Epilogue

Nothing lasts forever. Even now, we can hear the world scream, hear the songs of the world gutter and die, burnt unto ash, twisted into laments of hate and spite. But, we knew this was coming. In a way, we blinded ourselves to it, and should have delt with them when they first arrivied. But, we droped our guard, relaxed our vigil.

    And now, the world burns.

Many of our kind are dead, sent back to the world heart. Much of what we have is now lost, but can be rebuilt. In time, perhaps we can reclaim our world. But, it will be some time before we are ready.

    2 years after Exodus

We go now to our home in exile, with the aid of the human magi, as they did not want our Runesmiths help in constructing the portal. Sensible in part, but still.

In a way, while the realm of Salus may suit the surfacers fine, we need a.. diffrent sort of dwelling place. It's not that we have evil in our hearts, but rather, we need the somewhat toxic gasses, the mildly radioactive stone, the dark and slightly dank press of solid stone on all sides. To each their own after all.

We've managed to built a small set of factories with them before we left, should help with the set up.

    30 years post Exodus

The surfacers have asked for our aid in teaching the psyical sciences. The motion has merit, and should help relations. Also might help with from becoming to self-rightious from all the positive energy.

But, the establishment has gone well, with most of the extensive fortifications in place, and a lab with our newest set of supercomputers. We managed to recover the bulk of our records and research data, and in fact are almost fifty years ahead of sceduale, and with the advances in the computers, that creeps forward a bit more each day.

But, we currently have to deal with a intresting proposal, one that could use gravity has a form of tidal energy generation....

    200 years post Exodus

The federation thinks we've slowed down. In a way, they are correct. Or rather, we haven't realeased everything we've been doing to them. Which is more of a case of "they didn't ask" on our part. After all, why release something intill you've figured out the drawbacks, finished the safety features, and make sure it won't explode in your face?

Besides, given some of the experiments, there are possible moral, ethical and phlisophical questions they would raise. After all, the AI project is just the tip of the earth-burg. Of course, the Droids have equal rights, and are free to leave if they choose. But it's the cloning and matter transfer projects that could raise the most problems....
