Of course he wasn't expecting it!

Who EVER expects to be pounced on by a shape-shifting sphinx?

As the flames wash over the hag-orc they will soon lose their burning heat and instead take on a feel rather akin to strong rope. Strong rope that will try to bind around the orc and hold her fast.

Freddie drops his human disguise completely at this point, the demon-fox aiming to leap upon the orc much as the sphinx had.

Though he doesn't maul her to death.

No...

The Huldra will lean down and try to kiss her instead. Which may very well result in the orc's soul/memories being drained and devoured by the discordant monster.

Necanth prison- mauling time!

Terrified was exactly what Cat was hoping for.
Cat will not kiss the orc, ew!
She'll go and try for a swift and powerful bite to the neck!
Quick and easy death! Warned him.

If she succeeds in killing this orc, she'll run after the runt.
If she manages to catch up she'll pounce on him too!
It's what she's good at, really. Pouncing and mauling.
She's careful not to hurt the liver, though.
That's for Freddie to nom.

Necanth Prison- Bandits

Clubhead gets his throat ripped out. Unfortunately, that's not immediately fatal and he's flailing for a few more minutes afterwards.

Should she try, Cat could easily leave Clubhead to die on his own and chase down Runty.

Hag-Orc, meanwhile, is kissed, and her soul is removed and Freddy eats it. Yummy?

Freddie has two options when it comes to nomming souls.

The first is through a kiss (or other act of passion). The second is to rip out and devour the poor creature's liver either while they're still alive or shortly after they die. The latter is much more horrific.

The former is extremely pleasurable for the victim.

Given the choice the Huldra will usually go for a kiss if only so he doesn't have to make someone suffer too much. They usually end up dieing with a smile on their face.

Anywho!

If Cat goes running after the runty orc Freddie will apply the Huldra's kiss of death to the big dumb one if he's still alive. Otherwise he'll get his liver ripped out and devoured.

Prison- Cavern

The wider path leads to a small camp. There's a pile of old guard uniforms, cushions, and blankets to make a bed and a pile of empty food tins and a chipped terracotta bowl half-filled with greenish goo, all lit by glowing geodes. There's also a bucket of water. There's no sign of whoever lives here. No other path leads away from the camp.

Prison- Cavern

Zefir waits where he is watching the camp. The half eaten goo may coem from someone living here, but where is he now? After a while Zefir will go over slowly. He tries to observe the walls for any place to hide. He will observe the clothes, maybe the woman he found in the train lived here. The clothes could tell him who or what lives here.

Freddie seems to have everything under control here, so she'll go for the little runt!

A well aimed pounce and some sharp claws should be enough to pin him to the ground.
"Don't say we didn't warn you!"
And then she goes to try at rip his head off.
Ew.

Outside Shifter Hold

I...I guess.....we're to head one of the free holds. She would have gone there. I hope.... He does smile a bit at the brownie playing with the animals.

"The Free Holds, eh?" She says, slipping back into her old habits of speaking. She'd sounded almost different there for a minute. "Sounds like somethin' a ex-slave'd do. Well, there're three of 'em. Which one?"

Necanth Prison- Bandit Slaughter

The second orc is probably kissed. Is the soul removal fatal? If not, the hag is now catatonic but alive, her magic sucked out with her soul, and the other orc is slowly bleeding to death.

Meanwhile, the runt orc is messily and gorily decapitated, which is messy. And gory.

Necanth Prison- Cavern

The camp isn't near the walls; it's an area where the stalagmites have been shattered and cleared away. There's a snap and a rattle to the left, but it's faint. Probably some kind of animal, or natural process. But it might be somebody accidentally breaking a stalagmite as they try to hide.

Memory removal isn't instantly fatal, no. But it leaves the poor creature in a vegetative state. To complete the soul-nomming Freddie devours the liver or heart of his victims. And he'll be starting with the decapitated orc and then messily devouring the other two.

Om nom nom nom!

The Huldra's face will be all covered in blood.

It isn't a terribly pretty sight.

Once his meal is done Freddie will burn the blood off himself before POOF!ing back into human shape.

"To be fair," he says as the foxfire 'rope' around the hag dissipates. "We did warn them."

"Yup, we sure did."
Cat has changed back to her human form, Cleaning herself.
All that blood is not a pretty sight.
When Fred's done nomming, she'll search the bodies for valuables.

Necanth Prison- Bandit Slaughter

The hag has a ring made of three intertwined bands of copper, tin and zinc on one of her fingers, plus the minotaur-skin cloak that was her only other garment and the magic staff.

Clubhead has a large stalagmite-club and a suit of boiled leather armour made from layers of guard uniform and humanoid skin, in addition to an amulet made from somebody's skull- a simple loop of cord wrapped through an eye socket and surrounding sections of bone. In a hidden pocket, there's several coins made of terbium and a chunk of partially-melted gallium.

The runt has two knives made from sharpened steel spikes, teeth made of various stones including one hidden right at the back made of uvarovite. He has a plain ear stud made of molybdenum, and in a pocket he has an ammonite fossil that sparkles with iron pyrite.

Some of the jewellery, in addition to the staff, may be magical. Perhaps they should try it out?

Freddie isn't terribly interested in magical items.

He is, however, quite interested in lewts!

As in things that could be sold or bartered with. And thus things that look like they would have obvious value will be acquired! Though since Freddie is so polite he'll let Cat have first pick.

Aaww...

How nice of him!

"On the upside I'm not so hungry anymore," Freddie comments cheerfully as he straightens up, kicking the big brute in the bottom of the shoe. Take that!

Cat makes a face at Freddy's blood-covered face.
'' Better clean yourself up''

Cat will leave the creepy armour and goes for the jewelery.
She'll take the ring, putting it on her finger, and the fossil. Looks pretty.
''think I'll take these if that's fine by you. Anything you want?''

Cat will find that the ring will boost her magic, making its effects slightly more powerful. The fossil, meanwhile, is a magical charm, and whilst Cat has it on her person she'll be resistant to poison. If it's stored in an extradimensional space, it won't be as effective.

Clubhead wasn't wearing shoes, so Freddy kicks him in the sole of the foot.

Kicking the poor guy in the only sole he has left...

Okay.

He has two of them.

But that was a pun because he got his soul ea- oh never mind.

Freddie will take the monies!

And peer at the magical staff.

How long is the staff in question?

He might not be able to pocket that thing.

Cat is very pleased with her loot!

She'll turn to Freddie:"Ready? We lost too much time with this."

Need to get to that map!

Freddie nods in reply!

"Yep, that's good enough as far as I'm concerned. Let's go get that map."

And he'll set off to do exactly that!

Hopefully they won't be waylaid by any more riots, fights, horrible monsters, or crazy people.

Or crazy people that are horrible monsters.

Or even just murderous people!

As a matter of fact...

Freddie wouldn't mind avoiding any more people of any kind.

Necanth Prison- To Get A Map

I did get it, eventually. After I made that post.

The staff is quite long- about two metres.

Is the Gruumsh holy symbol, melt-in-the-hand Gallium chunk, ear stud and uvarovite tooth taken, or looted?

Freddie wouldn't think of looting rocks out of some guy's mouth.

Necanth Prison- Entrance Inn

The inn is just as busy as it was before, though there's less fighting. In fact, the various beings are mingling a lot more, though they're still mainly sticking to their own species. Several humanoids are wandering around the tables, flirting with various patrons.

The goblin prostitute from before wanders up to Freddy and Cat. "Hello again. It's good to see you. And your friend, if you're up for that." She winks. Though I've forgotten if she introduced herself or otherwise knows their names.

Oh boy, the harlots again!

And they were never introduced. The goblin just acted in a fashion that made the Huldra hungry. Which she's doing again. Though given that he just ate not too long ago?

Well...

Suffice to say he can resist her 'charms' pretty easily.

...

...not sure how charming a goblin would be to begin with.

Fredrick coughs slightly. "We're not here for entertainment. Just for a new map."

Not her again!
Cat will give her a dirty look!
And that's pretty dirty.

"No thank you, we can take care of that ourselves!" she'll say with a sly grin and a wink, before pushing Freddie towards the bartender!

"Oh, but honey, what will you do with the map besides go and find somewhere fun? Everything here is about entertainment. Yours, mine, the madman behind you with his great big axe, it doesn't matter whose. Everything that happens here entertains somebody. Except maybe the last of the guards; they weren't psychopaths to begin with." A few guards survived the purge and went into hiding. The prison's large enough they could just go somewhere and pretend to have been an inmate.

The bartender will smile when he sees them. "Hello! Haven't had anybody from New London for a while, what's the latest? Oh, and if you'll give me your old map, I'll give you your new one." He smiles widely. Always good to know what's happening elsewhere.

Freddie studiously ignores the tavern wench.

And approaches the bar guy to hand over the map!

"Last we saw Cannibal Joe was staging a bit of a coup to overthrow the mayor. It sounds like the new government will be a bit more open to outsiders than the current one."

That's always encouraging!

Oh, and the creepy little girl broke her axe. But Freddie doesn't know that nor does he care!

"Are we still the freshest newcomers?"

"That and there are groups of orcs running around, robbing people."

Might be important!

Cat will hand over her old map, in exchange for the new one.

Necanth Prison- Entrance Inn

"Cannibal Joe? That's good- he'll make a good ruler, I'm sure. We were cell mates once upon a time. He was just Nameless Joe then; he hadn't eaten Fat Joe for having a better nickname. No, nobody since you three came through eight shifts ago. Don't worry about the bandits; there's always bandits somewhere. Surprised that they're between here and New London, though; the Londoners are traditionally quite hard on banditry." Well, I suppose if one has to eat somebody, might as well ensure they've got a lot of meat on them, right?

Clearly they survived the encounter with the bandits.

One can tell since they aren't dead. Or complaining about being robbed. Though complaining about being robbed would probably just make them look like more tempting targets.

Anywho!

Fredirck just kinda nods in reply to the information on the past of Cannibal Joe. So he got his name after eating someone here? Wonder why he got dumped in the prison to begin with...

"Things seem to have settled down a little here since our last visit," Freddie comments idly as he waits for the new map.
