The Bladesong Tribe were founded by a Chaotic Good Battle Dragon. They are a gregarious tribe, prone to passion and battle lust and more than any other tribe seek glory through combat. They are one of the few Tribes to maintain a martial bardic tradition, and hold the secrets of ancient draconic words of power that use to great effect on the battlefield. When not fighting or merrymaking, they act as Lorekeepers for the Seren tribes as a whole. Their dragonspeaker, Ghadrin the Scribe foretold the coming of Vox the Herald, born of Sybarite blood.
Siberytes are a rare and relatively recent phenomenon, corresponding among the Seren roughly around the time of the appearance of Dragonmarks on the lesser races. Not simply dragonblooded, these children are born with a reincarnated piece of the souls of one of the great Progenitor vestiges. This concerns many dragons who otherwise go out of their way to slay any dragontouched or half dragons they find, but a Siberyte gains power from the spiritual essence of dragons, and is not the product of racial blood mixing. Because Siberytes are a part of the Prophecy, many dragons will not strike out against them, instead seeking to subvert them to their own ends as greater champions within the great maneuvers of the Xorvintaal.

Siberytes can be recognized by several distinctive traits. First they have no body hair whatsoever, including eyebrows. Second, while their right eye is normal, their left eye is in the form of a dragon's eye...golden and reptillian with a slit pupil. Thirdly, Siberytes are incredibly resistant to magic. Because of this they may never learn spells, but instead draw power from their own draconic souls.

No analog has been found for the other progenitor vestiges, but it is rumored that dark and warped Khyberites exist somewhere within the Demon Wastes.
    Character Background:

    Spoiler

So it was the Prophecy, as witnessed by Ghadrin, dragonspeaker for the Bladesong, did come to pass when Chief Ramatep took a sorceress for a wife and she bore unto him a Siberyte child. Smooth of skin, dragon soul merged with human soul, one eye for each, this child was named Xavox’oryx, the Herald of Siberys.

The Bladesong tribe take their name from their warrior skald tradition, calling upon the songs of power taught to them by Melkoryx, the founder of the Bladesong. Though a small tribe, their ferocity and the edge of the dragonsong has wrought them power and respect beyond their station. The greatest Lorekeepers and dragonspeakers have always come from the Bladesong. So it was that Xavox, Herald of Siberys was raised in the skald tradition, even as his draconic power began to mature and manifest.

When he came of age, Ghadrin bade the young man come with him to the sacred sands and silent stone sentinels of the Totem beach, and beyond, to the heights of the Great Barrier Mountains. There, extending to the horizon lay the yawning expanse of the Vast. There, the dragonspeaker told him, was he to discover his destiny.

Xavox wandered through the great desert of the vast for two years, surviving only through guile and wits until at last he came to Io’lokar, fabled City of Knowledge. Through charisma and cunning did he make his way through the city wards, coming eventually to the Height and the four great colleges. There did he pour himself into study for another decade, gleaning what he could of Siberytes, the Prophecy, and the world beyond. It was here that he was discovered by Shakkar, dragon scholar and agent of the Chamber, and brought to the Tapestry.

The Chamber, having discerned a portion of the Prophecy, instructed Xavox to unite the Seren, for the time had come for the ancient guardians to take on their greater destiny in the grand narrative of Eberron. Xavox, left a young man, returned a wise and learned warrior. Through moving oratory, cunning negotiation and ultimately the test of battle did Xavox forge the many hordes into one nation. The old clans still exist, but now focused as one outward, towards the rest of Eberron, towards their destiny.

Now, the Seren King journeys by ship towards Sharn, there to announce his Kingdom to the world and forge alliances for the future. He has been warned that he will also make many enemies…

Shakkar is a young adult bronze dragon. Well seasoned in his youth from many years in the vast, Shakkar was more curious than most about the lesser races. So it was that when he entered adulthood it was quite natural for him to gravitate towards the Tapestry and the Chamber. While researching the Prophecy in Io’lokar, Shakkar met and befriended a rarity of rarities, a Seren scholar, inducting him into the Chamber and the great game of dragons.

    The Retinue:
    Spoiler
    Show
Ghadrin, dragonspeaker for the Bladesong, and now the Seren nation is a wizened old sage of a druid. As a boy he became enamored of the Fey and spent his young manhood in the arms of a Dryad lover. He became an expert tracker and hunter and learned the ways of the wood from the fey and other creatures there. In his late middle age, during a moment of meditation upon the stars above, Ghadrin received a flash of revelation, noting in the pattern of stars a piece of the Prophecy. If the chief of his tribe bedded the blood of the dragon, Siberys would return to slay its ancient foe, the Dragon Below. Much like Merlin and Arthur, Ghadrin played the role of mentor to the boy, giving him a wise and firm guiding hand that he might develop the character of a leader.

After the child was born, Ghadrin was visited by a young adult bronze dragon, and instructed to guide the child, and when he came of age, send him into the Vast as a rite of passage. When the boy returned a man, Ghadrin was first to his side. In Io’Lokar, Xavox did learn the primordial draconic syllables which created the world, lending great power to the Seren dragonsong. Still, a king needs armor and a weapon fit for a king. Ghadrin, now grown old and withered, returned to the love of his youth, and the Dryad blessed the Seren king with great boons of feycraft armor and a shield, forged in ages past and hidden safe within the bosom of her roots. The weapon was harder…Xavox fought his father for the right to bear Resonance, the mighty greataxe given to the tribe by their founder-dragon, the Battle Maiden herself, Draya’gos. Xavox fought his father, and won, for some things cannot be decided through words alone.

Dasmina is the Captain of Xaxox’s royal guard. A childhood friend of Xavox, and a devout worshipper of dragonkind, she has always beheld him with awe and wonder. While Xavox was on his quest for knowledge, Dasmina devoted herself to martial training becoming one of the most fierce battle maidens of the Bladesong. When the Herald returned a man, and became a king, she eagerly pledged himself to his service and he made her his Captain, in charge of his personal safety. She has feelings for Xavox, and would gladly giver her life for him. However, her sense of awe for him has only increased with his great power and in her devotion harbors does not allow herself to feel worthy of what she wants. She has therefore remained silent, channeling the emotion into protecting him.

Xamot and Tomax are Xavox’s brothers, twins born to his father’s bride a decade after Xavox himself. The twins are giants among men, and their mother died when they ripped their way out of her. From her they inherited the blood of dragons as well, and this has lent them arcane abilities unknown among other Serens. In spite of their size they are quite cunning and stealthy, often performing reconnaissance missions for their brother. By day, they accompany Xavox as part of the royal family, and handle much of the administrative aspects of his party.

Gunther, Helgash, and Farah are the elite lieutenants of the royal guard. Protégés of Dasmina, she has trained them in tactics and command, doting especially upon the young battle maiden Farah. The three work as one unit and are especially close with each other. It is rumored that Farah, as the strongest, has taken both of the men as lovers.

Accompanying the royal retinue are 60 barbarian warriors who form the core of Xavox’s royal guard. To avoid special favoritism, the 60 have been drawn from every Seren tribe. All are fierce fighters and fanatically dedicated to their new king. Xavox keeps their morale high and they are prideful and eager to be at the vanguard of their emergent nation. They are loud, boisterous, and prone to quarreling still with each other, but such rivalries are quickly set aside in the presence of the king.

    The Cohort:
    Spoiler
    Show
In ancient times, did the dragons turn their eye upon the giants of Xen’drik, and raise them up into a great race. The giants were enamored of their draconic patrons and sought to be like them in the Art and Science. One of the many gifts the giants received was an artificial lifeform, a construct created of metal and vines, animated with the blood of a dragon alchemist. This being called Ingot was made head gamekeeper and naturalist of Xen’drik, and presided over the many preserves and the creatures inhabiting them.

When the Dreaming Dark invaded, the giants took inspiration from their gamekeeper to create a race of warriors. These sleepless soldiers were the perfect tool to fight against that which fought through dreams. Ingot witnessed the great cataclysm the dragons wrought, and was crushed under a collapsing building, there to lie inert for 40,000 years.

Ten years ago, an expedition from Morgrave University excavated the ruins of that building and discovered Ingot. Back in Sharn they began repairs and restorations for display when Ingot’s natural healing systems took over and regenerated it back to full health and awareness in a matter of minutes. It introduced itself and was quite in shock of how long it had slept.

Filled with curiosity for the new world Ingot stayed at Morgrave. Its knowledge of the giant civilization was unfortunately dulled by it’s long hibernation but it was still one of the foremost authorities on the continent and became an honorary professor, teaching classes on history as well as the life sciences and magical zoology. During the recesses between semesters Ingot often leads expeditions itself, whether forays into the continent, or the depths of the Dragon Below.

For his efforts, Ingot has been awarded a fellowship with the prestigious Wayfinder Foundation by Lord Boromir ir’Dayne himself. Recently, Ingot’s interests have been drawn towards Dragonmarks and the Prophecy.

Accompanying Ingot are six of his best students. Formerly a front line unit, Maul, Gauge, Frag, Root, Drill, and Zane were advanced shock troopers of the Last War. When the Day of Mourning befell Cyre, the six were caught in the mist. By the time they found their way out the war was over and they were free to lead new lives. Having been forged and trained together, they felt most comfortable in each others company and as such have stayed a unit. As a matter of mutual consent they decided to attend Morgrave University in Sharn, that they might learn a trade beyond the craft of war. They six felt an immediate affinity for Ingot, for he is in a way a living ancestor among them. They sometimes act as teaching assistants and often accompany Ingot on his expeditions for Morgrave or the Wayfinder Foundation.

-For this character the default level one Fire breath effect is replaced with a Thunder [Sonic] breath effect. Like the Fire breath, this may be used as either a line or cone, with the appropriate range for each.

    New Breath Effect: Breath Admixture
    Minimum Level: Dragonfire Adept 12
    Effect:
The Dragonfire Adept may combine any two breath effects they know. If they combine a line effect with a cone effect, the line shortens and becomes a 30' cone.
Reworked Breath Effect: Discorporating Breath of Bahamut
    Minimum Level: Dragonfire Adept 15
    Effect:
The Dragonfire Adept must be of good alignment to use this Breath Effect. The Dragonfire Adept's Breath Weapon loses its energy descriptor becoming untyped damage. The Breath Weapon Extends out in a 60' Cone and does quintuple normal damage. Any creatures slain by this damage are Disintegrated, though objects (including Force objects) are not affected. In using this Breath Effect the Dragonfire Adept takes nonlethal damage equal to twice their class level. In addition, the use of this Breath Effect burns out the Dragonfire Adept's Breath Weapon, requiring a recharge time of 1 round before any breath weapon may be used again.

-Warrior Skald Performance Skill refluffed as Throat Singing.

-Heir of Siberys now advances Invocations and Breath Weapon damage at all 3 levels.

Still have houseguest, and have to run out again. Pretty busy until Saturday. It's taking me a bit to wrap my head around playing the solo game and more than one character. I want to keep the spotlight on Xavox, but the other characters are important and need to be kept track of... Now I know how DMs feel.

In any case, I may have slower posting rate for awhile, only 2-3 times per week, but my silence isn't for lack of enthusiasm.

I noticed that there's a bit of a contradiction in the backstories in the OP, since they list both Melkoryx and Draya'gos as the founder dragons of the Bladesong. The explanation I'm going with is the one given in the IC thread, but if that wasn't what you were going for, feel free to have Xavox correct Taelendril on that.

Hi PoD, the game is going well so far!

I'm writing to you today to see if you might be willing to help save another game I'm in (another one that I originally called for/masterminded).

We found one DM who then vanished due to real life concerns, and then found a second, who seemed staunch but disappeared over a month ago having to deal with RL legal issues involving his family. Though he assured us he would not forget about us and would be back, the time has come to seek his replacement.

The game itself is a Red Hand of Doom module campaign, though set in Eberron for it's unique take on Tiamat (who is tied into my characters backstory). We need someone super knowledgeable about Eberron to take the reins. Naturally I thought of you.

I'm not sure how full your plate is at the moment, but the fact that it's a module means most of the work has been done for you, and as you will see, our crew of players is highly devoted and very much into the development of the relationships for our characters. Seriously...we're still raring to go after two DMs, and several recruitment phases...

If you are unfamiliar with the module, there is a handbook for setting it in Eberron here. Naturally I've not read it myself, so as not to spoil any surprises.

Here is our DM rerecruitment thread from the second round, which has links to all the characters as well as there backstories and a link to our (wholly player created and driven) prequel thread here.

The OOC for the game is here.
And the IC is here. As you can see, we really only just started, two pages in, and having just concluded our first battle together.

    ...what do you think?

I'm heading off on a trip to Europe with the family for the next week and a half, and my internet access will be a bit spotty for the duration. I think this is a good point to skip ahead, so when I have a chance I'll put up the next post about landing in Khorvaire.

I already have 4 PbP games going at the moment, so I'll have to read through the threads and the module to see if I can fit that in as well. If it looks manageable, I'd be happy to DM it for you.

First off, congrats on graduating and on your trip! Didn't realize you were that young.

Where did you graduate from? Chico?

Second, yeah much of the work in the module has been done for you, so it's free for you to flesh and tweak out, and I imagine that handbook on these boards is pretty shiny too. Just let me know when you can...the players are ready and highly motivated, and would love to be able to continue playing.

Yeah, I get that a lot. I went to RPI.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'd have the time to run that at the moment, since I'm moving across the country in a month to start my new job and I have lots of logistics to work out for that. If you still haven't found a DM to run it by mid-July, though, I'd probably have enough time then for another game.

    Fact not flattery!

We are a very character driven troupe, and we hope to continue playing even past the completion of the module, so we are dedicated...we have stuck together and stayed ready and waiting to play through 3 DMs for over a year now...we need a DM who can match our dedication. Also, we need someone who really understands Eberron.

I've checked in with everyone, and they don't mind waiting if you are indeed our man. Once you take a look through the links I sent you, you will see our quality.

I have the window open to respond...just been so super slammed last week and this week. I'll get to it at some point here soon, but also you said you were busy so I figured no need to rush.

Also, not sure what you have planned but at some point before I leave Sharn, Xavox needs to make it to Morgrave to meet up with his cohort and his cohort's retinue.

Don't worry about posting, I just wanted to make sure you were aware of that; I've had games in the past that have sat around with no posts for a week or so because threads didn't show up in subscriptions and stuff like that.

Things are going well enough. I got back from vacation and am now back up at school visiting friends and such for a bit before I have to make the final move out West. Hope this weekend is more relaxing than your weeks have been.

Looks like it. Assuming everything goes as planned with the move and job orientation, I should have the time in two weeks or so.

The scene Xavox walks into next depends on whether you'd prefer to give him time to mingle with the Powers That Be and make some side negotiations first or jump right into the official meeting. Let me know which and I'll set the scene for that, and I'll add all the important people at the meeting to the Dramatis Personae section in a bit.

Oh definitely...I'm done. I think I want to fire up my PS3 for the first time in months and spend a couple days just unwinding. Maybe resume Deus Ex, or maybe crack open Resistance 2.

    :does happy dance:

I'm glad to hear! I really like the care and energy you're putting into this, even though I've had to be a bit more perfunctory at times.

If you're sure, would you mind posting a hello/introduction in the OOC? The troops are all on standby, in an amazing display of patience and dedication for a pbp game. It would greatly add to morale for them to know we get to resume in a few weeks...

Tell you what, here's how we'll handle this scene without getting bogged down with everyone. Why don't you give me a list of the following:
    • Four delegations you'd want Xavox to get to know/make deals with/ally himself with/whatever (I'm assuming Lyrandar and Breland/Morgrave are two of them);
    • Three delegations you wouldn't mind him paying less attention to/snubbing/ignoring/ticking off/whatever, whether directly or indirectly;
    • Two overall goals Xavox has for this meeting (political/religious alliances, colonization, making a particular impression, trade concessions, learning inside knowledge, whatever);
    • One complication you would, if not want to happen, at least enjoy dealing with.

We'll construct a scene around that and montage the rest of it.

Regarding the RHoD campaign, I'm all set up in my new apartment and ready to go. As soon as I get back from seeing Dark Knight Rises after dinner I'll get some posts up.

How did you like TDKR? I saw it at the first midnight showing and I loved it (though not as much as TDK).

I'll get to the rest of your questions a bit later tonight or at the latest tomorrow morning.

Just a head's up that I will most likely not be around much the next few days and probably not at all this weekend, from Thursday to Mondy, due to a conference retreat where I'll be speaking at and the need to prepare for my presentation...

    Only four??? That's tough!

Quite right. Lyrander, because of her keen interest so far, and Breland/Morgrave for obvious reasons.

Others he would want to get in good with:

Phiarlan, ostensibly because of their mutual love of song and performance but also for their rep in espionage...as Merrix said, knowledge is power (when used by the powerful).

Annnnd...dang this was tough, but I would say Kundarak, since money is also power.

Runners up would be Ghallanda (for the Bladesong and Seren love them some good food, drink, and hospitality), not necessarily Cannith, but Merrix in particular as another who is not so invested in petty politics and would make a good neutral friend, Vadalis, whom he would want to question on the lack of a delegation from the Eldeen Reaches, and the Queen of Thrane, who he would honor for coming herself and for the role of the SIlver Flame in safeguarding Eberron from the overfiends.

    Three delegations you wouldn't mind him paying less attention to/snubbing/ignoring/ticking off/whatever, whether directly or indirectly;
Well, Xavox is too good at diplomacy to willingly piss anyone off. I would say indirectly he would perhaps snub Orien by favoring Lyrander, and Thurrani by favoring Phiarlan. Also Karrnath, since they are more or less obviously snubbing the Seren, and from what Xavox has heard, they have a rather ruthless (and to Xavox as a scholar-king, unenlightned) regime.

In general, Xavox will try and avoid showing too much favor to any one nation, preferring to talk trade with the multinational Houses.

Two overall goals Xavox has for this meeting (political/religious alliances, colonization, making a particular impression, trade concessions, learning inside knowledge, whatever)
1.) Establishing Seren sovereignty as it pertains to trade. This includes showing Khorvaire that he is wise and educated, as well as cunning and capable.

2.) Diffusing any fears that Seren intends to threaten any of the Sovereign nations of the continent.

One complication you would, if not want to happen, at least enjoy dealing with.
I can see the headstrong Aundairians wanting to butt heads with the fearsome Seren...
