Dragon Age 2. The woman is the female version of the protagonist who rises from nothing to become the most powerful noble in the city. The guy in the back is the Arishok, one of the top level leaders of Buddhist-Communist Ottoman Empire who terrifies everyone in the city by staying in the harbor with his soldiers "waiting for a ship home", for three years.
    And he is completely badass.

Actually, it was invented by the French nobles and royalty just before the French Revolution, where it saw the most use in executing the class that invented it. Also, it was invented as a more merciful manner of execution than hanging, as it was a swift death with no chance of suffocation. (Yes, I know, I'm over-analyzing the joke)

It was more the appearance of that specific guillotine than guillotines in general. Although, guillotines did get a bit of a bad rep during the Reign of Terror. Anyway, I digress...

Series captures D&D feel, especially of more disfunctional games. 4chan concluded it actually is one and made a lot of jokes. My favorite was about how it had to look when everybody introduced their characters.
Vandal Savage: I play caveman made immortal by a meteorite.
Exoristos: I'm playing immortal Amazon exiled from her home for dark and mysterious reasons I won't explain.
Xanadu: I'm playing immortal Sorceress taught magic by Merlin himself.
Etrigan: I'm playing man bound by Merlin with powerful demon he can transform into at will. Also, I'm immortal.
Yustina: I'm playing gi...boy knight made immortal by merlin, who is searching for Holy Grail. And I have magic flying horse who is bound and loyal to me and is immortal too.
Al Jabr: I'm playing Rogue/Artificer who just wants to visit libraly in nearby city.

Funny thing is, I'm pretty sure it's still one of the most reliable and painless methods of execution, the rep it's gotten is just so bad no one who uses the death penalty uses it.
