Exactly. Just like how some animals are immune to poison, but the poison is still inside their bodies. It's there, but you just don't suffer from it.

That is a rat.

They've bred rats which are large enough to qualify as beasts of burden and others who swell up and become translucent with honey when they feed, I don't think it's a stretch that productivity rats might resemble other creatures.

That... looks pretty bleak. Bleak doesn't have to be "falling buildings, black smoke pouring out from factories, and a setting sun". This looks like it's a girl down on her luck, not making enough money off her inventions, with nothing but her pet cat (the face is wrong for a rat. And rats have longer tails) for company.

Really? Because to me, it looks like a girl living in an awesome home taking a break between sketching designs to relax with her cat* in a cool "FOR SCIENCE" world. Especially because, if it is Autochthonia, she gets to eat and doesn't need to worry about money no matter what.

*Though if it is Autochthonia, it would be a rat, because the only animals other than humans there are Rats and Cockroaches in weird mutant varieties.
