Highschool of the Dead is not the anime to watch if you're looking for compelling characters and an interesting story. It consists more or less entirely of gratuitous zombie slaughter and a LOT of fanservice.
Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, of course.

I'd argue this actually...or...well the manga's better about it anyway. There's still plenty of fanservice but the gratuitous zombie slaughter is realistically portrayed (as realistically as undead corpses shambling around can be anyway) and the characters are, largely, likeable, interesting, and most have hidden depths. I *think* that the one is his left hand is crafted as well. Looks like the Railway Rifle to me. Also, doesn't matter if you found it or not, in that game you use craft to repair your stuff, or pay NPCs to do so.
