That was a future version of him.
That whole scene was in Marty's past. Plus, Trissy is just a good person to be around. Kinda hard not to be happy around her.
Yeah, considering the drilling would probably pollute the whole Darkmist river...

Well, the drilling occurs in the site. Said that wrong. The engine is being built in his tower, the drilling is occurring out in Darkmist Forest.
