Default Alternate NPC Class - The Scrapper

In my campaign setting, I outright reject the notion of NPC Classes being the "ordinary people" that PCs are inherently better than; rather, an NPC class is something that you probably wouldn't want to take as a PC because it's pretty bland and boring compared to the PC classes, but it should be mechanically viable enough that NPCs with that class are not inherently weaker than ones with a PC class, just not as interesting. To this end I am re-engineering every one of these classes except the Aristocrat and possibly the Adept, with the intention of making them playable.

The re-engineered Warrior becomes the Scrapper, also known as the Brute. He is a martial character who lacks the specialized training of a fighter, forcing him to survive by his wits and strength of arms. For the most part, the Scrapper is designed to resemble the 3.0 version of the Ranger, but without the Ranger's class features and with a shorter list of skills, and able to wear any kind of armor and use a shield. If you replaced a Monster Manual's Warrior level with a Scrapper level, it should remain roughly the same creature for combat purposes, but will have extra class skills which give you the idea it's better able to keep itself fed on a day to day basis. It will have more Hit Points, but this should be counteracted by a roleplaying consideration: Scrappers are looking out for their own hides and should not fight to the death as a mindless monster or a fanatic might do. Roll d10s rather than d8s for the Scrapper's HP, but assume that when he's down to about 20% of his HP he should surrender or flee, and the characters get XP for defeating him. (The same standard probably ought to apply to animals, magical beasts, and most intelligent creatures, but things like dragons and aberrations can be regarded as more bloody-minded and willing to fight to the death; the Scrapper however should very much be regarded as a person, even if he's Chaotic Evil.)

Alignment: Any. Scrappers as a rule tend toward neutrality since it better enables them to adapt to changes in order to survive, but exceptions exist. A Good Scrapper believes in making friends who he can count on for help when he can't go it alone, while an Evil one believes that a fearsome reputation will keep him safe from predators who target the weak. Lawful scrappers believe that discipline and social support are beneficial and that unpredictability should be avoided, while Chaotic ones believe the reverse, not wanting to lose their "edge" by relying on the safety net of a structured society. Most scrappers don't put a lot of thought into alignment issues, and are unlikely to take the proselytizations of clerics, incarnates and so forth terribly seriously, unless they expect something in return for the audience.
    Hit Die: 1d10

    Class Skills:
Class Skills: Climb (Str), Craft (Int), Handle Animal (Cha), Heal (Wis), Hide (Dex), Intimidate (Cha), Jump (Str), Knowledge (geography) (Int), Knowledge (nature) (Int), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Profession (Wis), Ride (Dex), Search (Int), Spot (Wis), Survival (Wis), and Swim (Str).
    Skill Points at 1st Level: (4 + Int modifier) × 4
Skill Points at Each Additional Level: 4 + Int modifier

    Class Features
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A scrapper is familiar with all simple and martial weapons, all armor, and shields (not tower shields).
Bonus Feats: A level 3 scrapper gains Endurance as a bonus feat. A level 8 scrapper gains its choice of Run or Dodge as a bonus feat. A level 15 scrapper gains its choice of Blind-Fight, Combat Reflexes, or Improved Initiative as a bonus feat. In every case the character need not meet any prerequisites, and there is no effect if the character already has all the available feats.

This is very much a first draft. Let me know if you can see any obvious problems. Remember, it isn't meant to be sexy enough that you'd want to play it, just solid enough that you wouldn't weep bitter tears if you had to.
