And as Maple and Alistar surge forward, they find out why the little blue guys were standing back fifteen feet or so, as the ground starts to give way in select spots, showing oily, gooey spikes below in a series of foot traps...

The blue guys shriek as Maple charges in, and bops the turkey tormentor on the nose! Somehow, the blow doesn't seem to do much damage for whatever reason, and his return poke skitters off her armor. The others who close in around her manage to miss her with their shanks...

Fermor fends off two cat-sized centipedes, while Alistar and Fermor both take a little damage from the constant rain of junk. One of the centipedes falls, downed by friendly fire.

Fael began to get concerned, they had been gone to long and now Roqoan had decided to follow them. She thought about going as well but then what if that was too much. how many large bodies could this tunnel take before it collapsed? Or what if they all got stuck halfway?!

She wrung her hands fretting over the many disastrous things that could happen. She moved to begin digging the entrance wider before stopping and looking over to Fermor. "Wha-What should we do, is there another way down or should we throw a rope and pull them out?"

DOWN IN THE HOLE

Roqoan lands in the hole, light illuminating a short, rough-dug corridor that opens up into a room. He sees several revealed short pits around the entrance of the corridor, and his friends fighting not far beyond. The room is a sea of big-eyed blue things, scurrying around and throwing rusty bits of salvaged metal at Alistar, Fermor, and Maple.

Fermor, back at the entrance, puts an end to a giant centipede at his feet. Alistar wades out of a trap, stalking toward a group of blue things, three of which shriek and flee. And across the room, next to a tied-up turkey, a blue thing splatters against the wall as Maple hits it so hard that it falls to pieces.

Perhaps eight blue things remain in the room, three of them cowering in the far corners... When from an entranceway across the room, a high-pitched warbling shout comes.

"Forward! Forward my calvary! Let our mounts feast on the blood of bigginses tonight! THIS. IS. NEW HOLE!"

And from the far entrance, three bloated buglike forms come crawling! The blue-things on their backs are crouched low to avoid the ceiling, and not having much luck with it. The bugs have far too many jumbled red eyes, large pointy-looking mandibles, and a bad attitude.

Giant ticks. Fairly uncommon, these things are serious hazards to cattle out in the plains. Once latched on they don't let go, and they'll drink a man dry in a minute. Also a vector for disease.

The first one charges awkwardly for Maple, and manages to sink its mandibles into her side!

Fael looks around seeing that most of the others have leapt down the hole. She takes a breath and sends up a silent prayer as she follows.

Brin and Fay'l drop into the hole, finding themselves in a corridor that extends perhaps fifteen feet. It is TIGHT in here.

At the end of the corridor, they can see Roqoan peering into a room. There is a lot of fighting going on... Several small blue humanoids clad in filthy rags and scavenged bits of junk are trying to kill your friends. A turkey is tied to some sort of torture rack, and a few pits around the entrance of the room show where traps have been triggered.

Three enormous bloated bugs (About man-sized) with blue riders are crawling through the chaos. One's bitten a big chunk out of Maple, who's resolutely flailing back at it. Alistar is also up in the thick of the fray and Fermor guards the entrance, his god granting him the aim to smash a ropy, arm-sized centipede to pieces.

All in all, it's pretty chaotic...

Alistar rends a blue thing limb to limb, leaving only three near him. Scared and desperate, they back into a corner and hurl spiky things at him. One connects.

Roqoan's grease spell trips up the other two bugs as they prepare to leap upon Alistar and Fermor! One of them manages to crawl its way off the grease and get up to Fermor, but the other slips, rolls, and crushes the blue thing on its back without noticing.

Maple's slingstaff crunches part of the giant insect's chitin, and it chitters as its mandibles twitch, and a feeding tube stabs the halfling. Maple pales as her blood, quite a lot of it, is drawn into the beast. These creatures are giant ticks, it would seem...

The remaining four blue things decide to leave the armored guys to the giant tick calvary, and hurl jagged chunks of metal at Roqoan instead. Maybe he's squishier than Maple! And as it turns out, he is...

Brin's arrow streaks out like a bolt from above, taking the tick in one of its eyes! It shrieks and howls... But remains standing, drawing blood from Maple.

Fortunately, between Maple's own clubbings and Fermor's axe, the thing is slain before the halfling can be drained dry. The thing's death throes crush its rider in the process.

Fermor DOES draw an attack from the one he passes to get to Maple... But his heavy armor turns the blow. Annoyed, the tick follows him, biting and trying to chew through the dwarven-forged armor to no avail.

Fae'l's healing restores Maple somewhat...

Alistar rends another blue thing to bits, and the two remaining by him flank him, stabbing desperately at this horrible beast! One of them manages a (for its skill) serious stab, almost lopping away an ear!

Fermor nods, and turns to the tick assaulting him with a vengeance. Cannae believe I let me flank open... Foolish, foolish..."Eat this, mongrel!" He twirls his axe again, the speed of the move sending his strike wildly out of control. It glances easily from the tough shell of the bug, and the dwarf only barely keeps it from striking one of his nearby allies. More than a little rusty... Ye certainly are making yerself proud.
