Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
Speaking of Persuader, the singer was in two other bands that have done great work. Savage Circus, which has the former drummer of Blind Guardian, and an American band called Dark Empire, which is a personal favorite of mine. Both are well worth checking out. If you like older Blind Guardian, then Savage Circus is especially good.

Yeah, over here. Helvetios wasn't brilliant, but it's still pretty good. I like their brand of folk music. Evocation I was great, and I'm looking forward to Evocation II.
Turisas is great too. Stand Up and Fight is growing on me. I'll have to see what they do with their next album to pass any judgement, though.
Word.
Equilibrium yes, but Elvenking not so much. I really dislike their vocalist's voice. But Red Silent Tides was pretty okay, actually.Awesome fremetar by wxdruid.

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
Haven't listened to either of these bands, but someone on the MA forums asked for stuff similar to Windir and got suggested Sigtyr and Mistur.
Anyway, new Burzum is officially out. Not sure how to feel. It sounds like a continuation of the sound of Fallen somewhat but it just doesn't have the same kick or brilliant composition.Wonder Woman (DC Girls in Sweaters Style) Avatar by Astrella.

So I found out that my friend's band is getting to open for Rhapsody of Fire, and he's gotten to open for Turisas before. I'm quite jealous.

Yeah, it's rather disappointing.
I don't really hear the Black Metal in "Broken Hope".
Found this a bit ago and put off sharing it until now. Sounds pretty cool.

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
New Anathema album out. I didn't even know they still made music. But they do prog rock these days, so whatever.
You know, sometimes I wish someone would just release an album that sounds exactly like The Silent Enigma. It's a shame Anathema didn't stick longer with that sound.
Also new Sonata Arctica out. Heh. It's apparently pretty good? Eh, I'll put it at the bottom of my to-get list.Last edited by Feytalist; 2012-05-24 at 06:24 AM.

Those kids are going places.
I gave the Sonata Arctica album a listen because I was really bored and had nothing to do other than listen to music and act disapproved. To me, it sounds like every other Sonata Arctica album out there.

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
So I just got back from a concert. Five bands played, and oh man was it awesome. I think that it's been a long time since I liked every band to play at a show. Allow me to give a rundown of how it went.
Aversed:
The first of three local bands that opened for this show. I missed the beginning of their set, and being the first ones they didn't get to play long. Still, they were good. They're a sort of melodic thrashy kind of metal, with harsh vocals. I'll admit, I have a bit of an affinity for this band because two friends of mine are in it, so I might be a bit biased towards them, but I do think that they're a legitimately solid band. Still, they were the weakest of the five that played tonight, so they've got some improving to do.
In Harm's Way:
This was the next local band. They were a very good power metal band, with fairly good stage presence. They were clearly more experienced than Aversed, which worked in their favor. The vocalist was both a good singer, and a very good guitarist. I liked them enough that I bought merchandise from them on the spot, even though I'd never heard them before. It was a pretty sweet deal; a t shirt, button, and CD all for $10.
Forevers Fallen Grace:
Not perhaps the most metal of names, but they more than made up for it with their music. The crowd absolutely loved them and was very hyped up for them. Like the two bands before them, they were local. Had I more money, I probably would have bought a shirt from them too. The singer is an utter maniac, in the best way possible. Also, he bears a strange resemblance to Tim Curry.
Voyager:
Finally, a band that wasn't local. Coming all the way from Australia, Voyager put on an incredible show. I hadn't listened to them before, but they blew me away. Their songs were fantastic, and in the middle of their set we had a fun little medley that ranged from a metal version of the Ghostbuster's theme song, to the America song. Check them out if you don't know them.
Rhapsody of Fire
These guys headlined, and put on a great show. A lot of good classic songs were played, along with some of their better new work. Surprisingly it was during their set that a real mosh pit got going. We had heavier bands before that, but I guess people were saving their energy for the headliners. Fabio is a fantastic frontman, and there a few cool moments when he actually came of the stage and was standing right in the middle of the crowd singing. I was never a really avid fan, but they made the show well worth my money.Avatar by Serpentine.

There are certain songs I quite enjoy of Marduk, but other than those few songs ("The Sun has Failed", "Throne of Rats", "Bleached Bones", "Fistf***ing god's planet" to name a few) the rest of their songs don't impress me.
