Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
Got it yesterday. Been listening to it all night. It's pretty good. The album as a whole is a lot more bouncy and lighter than the previous one. Nifelvind was pretty dark. Coupla songs even sounded vaguely carnival-ey (carnival metal? is that a thing?). Not as good as, say, Ur Jordens Djup, but still enjoyable.
Awesome fremetar by wxdruid.

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
So I went to see the Metal Alliance tour on Saturday, and it was awesome.
The lineup was Anthrax/Exodus/High On Fire/Municipal Waste/Holy Grail. Anthrax and Holy Grail were the bands I was there to see and neither of them disappointed me. I've seen both before, but this was the best sound balance I've gotten from Holy Grail due to the show being at an actual concert hall instead of a dive bar, and Anthrax played Among The Living in it's entirety which made for a great set. Exodus and Municipal Waste were also a lot of fun and made for some excellent moshing. High On Fire were an experience. There was an overpowering smell of weed and it was so loud that it felt like my organs were vibrating. Good times.

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
The top two are easy.
Judas Priest - Epitaph Tour
Iron Maiden - Maiden England Tour
The third one is hard. It's between the Iced Earth/Warbringer show from last March in Pontiac and Iron Maiden/Dream Theater on the US leg of the Final Frontier tour, which was my first metal concert. The Metal Alliance show last weekend is up there too, but not quite great enough to be in the top 3.
I guess I'll go with Iced Earth/Warbringer. Warbringer's set is still the best time I've had moshing (though that's probably partially due to me having been in a better frame of mind to get into it and being physically less tired, rather than Warbringer necessarily being better than Anthrax, Testament, Exodus, etc. at stirring up a pit). More than that though, the Iced Earth set was really something special and I was within 15 feet as opposed to being way back on the lawn like I was for the Final Frontier show.Last edited by WhamBamSam; 2013-04-12 at 12:28 PM.

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
I suppose The Carnival Bizarre, doesn't count.
I’ve pondered the thing, and it’s damn hard.
One of the most memorable, is probably the Iron Maiden tour (Real Live?) of Dickinson’s farewell, before Bayley’s era. Bruce was at his best, and they played songs as Prowler and Transylvania.
Then… eh, Slayer’s Decade of Aggression tour was devastating, at that time the songs were still brand new and thrash ruled. An incredible show, it was Slayer’s top.
Other than that?I would say Manowar (triumph of steel tour). So damn funny and exalting.
Edit: shame on me. as much as I love Manowar, the third place goes to Motorhead... Lemmy is just Lemmy.
But, as I’ve said, it’s hard. I’ve seen a lot of shows worth mentioning: for the fun, Anthrax (persistence of time) and Suicidal tendencies. For brutality, Entombed (Wolverine blues) and Sepultura (Arise).Last edited by Killer Angel; 2013-04-12 at 03:53 PM.

For me it's Watain, followed by 1349 and Marduk. Dir En Grey gets an honorable mention though.

I love Diablo Swing! They're a blast, and all over the place (which I find best in a band). At times they remind me of Sulfur, who only had the one record, but I love it to pieces.

Heeeee that's kinda awesome.
I do like Diablo Swing Orchestra as well, yeah.
Best lives shows hmmm. Most of the shows I go to are local bands, but I did once see Ensiferum live, and that was a pretty amazing show, even if it was in a teensy tiny venue.
Also saw Blind Guardian live once. I honestly can't remember much of the show, only that their performance of Imaginations was incredible and of course the Valhalla chorus, which might in fact still be going strong as of this moment.Awesome fremetar by wxdruid.

The Scarecrow didn't impressed me at the beginning, but I must say it's really good.

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
So, Thrawsunblat, the band formed out of the remnants of Woods of Ypres, recently released their first full-length album. And it is really, really great. It kind of sounds like if WoY was a folk band, and I don't like a whole lot of folk because it just feels contrived. However, everything in this album fits together perfectly with very little cheese, and I love it. This review got it exactly right.
What else I loved about this album is that where WoY was melancholic, nihilistic, and just plain sad, Thrawsunblat is at times reflective and occasionally mournful for those who've died, but ultimately is a triumphant and uplifting testament to the beauty of life. Ironically enough, Song of the Nihilist demonstrates it best. I strongly recommend it.

So what does everyone think of the new Sabbath single?
I guess it's... not terrible? Which was all I was hoping for really.
If the rest of the album is anything like it I wouldn't be disappointed.

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
A brief digression.
Today is the first of may, and every year, in Rome there’s a festival, with free access, which is basically a great feast, with some politics and, most of all, a lot of music. Many Italian groups, folk, pop, rock, pop rock and so on, all day long.
Every years, there’s also a couple of guests, non italian, that play just a little.
Exactly 20 years ago, in 1993, one of the guest was Iron Maiden… they were already in Rome for the Real Live Tour, so someone arranged the meeting.
They played only two songs… which I believe is the shortest exhibition ever made by Iron!Last edited by Killer Angel; 2013-05-01 at 09:35 AM.

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
Are they all the colours of black? Are they any any colour as long as it's black? Are they blacker than the blackest black?
Now I want to see a blackbow.
Blackbow, (n); Blackbows are formed when the punishing waves of true black metal are refracted through water droplets suspended in the icy coldness of the North, which are then prismed into its base hues: black, blacker, blackest, trve kvlt black and fiery inverted cross red. Blackbows are most commonly seen on moonless, cloudy winter nights.
