Re: Highland Archipelago: Terror in the Mist (IC)
As you attack the undead monstrosity it screams at you "Mortal scum, you shall not best my master, even if you destroy me!"
Pediveres attack does obvious damage, slicing off the creatures arm with a single swing, Bishops bullet pierces the creatures leg, it's flesh and bone explode as the bullet sails through, it somehow stays standing and runs at pedivere, however pedivere skillfully times a side-steps at the right time at the undead hits the wall.

Re: Highland Archipelago: Terror in the Mist (IC)
The creatures head is flung off, its arms grab in front of its headless body and grab the barbarian, he tries to fight the monster off, but it pulls him down with itself into the pool of evil as its already lifeless body gives up, the barbarian thrashs as the purple liquid turns black and starts to engulf him, dark tendril burrows into his skin and enter his body through his mouth, eyes, ears, any where it can get in, he screams as he starts to melt and bleed, after a moment his bare skeleton sinks into the pool. Your head resounds with the sound of his screams, the pool calmly starts to release Mist again.

Bishop quietly reloads his gun then looks up and says "Well I be damned, that's something you don't see everyday and I particularily don't wish to see that ever again. Though it is sad that it is usually the young ones who die and the old ones get older. Shall we carry on?"

Pedivere ignored the old gunslinger for the moment. They had just lost a companion. The death of the barbarian would not go unpunished, yet for now, Pedivere bowed his head and offered a silent prayer. None should die like that. It was such an ignoble, horrific demise.
May you know peace, Makoa, he finally said aloud.

The pool is worse now than before. I fear that Makoa's soul may be trapped within, and that the evil of the pool is using it for some purpose. The Paladin shook his head, knelt at the side of the pool and peered within. There is nothing that we can do. We all saw what it did to Makoa. This pool is death. We have not the means to disrupt it. We should instead seek out the master of that foul abomination we slew, and put an end to him. Hopefully the two are inexorably bound, and that by destroying the master, we render the pool inert.
He stood, and dusted himself off. I have no other idea to offer. He said sadly.

Re: Highland Archipelago: Terror in the Mist (IC)
Can anyone at least think of a means to prevent any further use as a portal? Its not as though we can lock that dilapidated door. If we can't block it, then at least setting some kind of trip cord could alert us of pending dangers.. While discussing, Vash will bottle a sample of the liquid by lashing a vial to the blade of a short sword.

Could, began the Paladin, the door or a couple of doors be laid across it and secured with weights? Other than that, Pedivere shrugged, Devices, traps and the like aren't really my forte.

Bishop sighs as he reloads his gun"I say let it be, nothing mundane is going to stop it, look what it did when something from our plane came in contact. This portal is beyond our means of closing, let's just carry on and finish clearing this temple. Besides no one but us is here for the time being and as long as we know it's here that is the first step to avoiding it."

I guess. I'll at least tie up a little bit of twin within the door frame so we can tell if its been disturbed and anything has escaped.
SpoilerVash will use a few pitons to use tie up some twine in a mesh across the door frame. This way if anything humanoid tries to escape it will have to break the twine.

Pedivere hefted his axe and steeled himself. They were fewer now, and poorer and weaker for it. He said nothing as he followed the half-elf. His mind replayed the death of Makoa over and over. The barbarian would be avenged and the evil in this place would be destroyed. No more would die by the darkness here.

Well Vash, said the Paladin. This looks like it was made just for you. Which ones can we walk on?
And might I just take this moment to conjecture, he said, wry smile on face, his left eyebrow cocked underneath his helmet. That if this was built as a Temple, then I'm a Halfling. This place is the mad designs of a lunatic engineer. Nothing to be worshiped in a place such as this but confusion and delay.Last edited by Grail; 2012-08-02 at 02:13 AM.

Bishop lets out a grunt "Too bad we don't have a few of those corpses with us, they would come in handy with setting off the traps or at the very least identifying what we are up against. Though if my memory serves me correctly, aren't crystals supposed to refract light?"

The spell from the crystals is simply darkness, you cannot identify the light's magic.
you remember once reading of a spell that was used as a defense mechinism in the tombs of creatures that hold darkness as a great power, however it is a spell of light, you cannot remember what it does though or the book was not detailed enough to describe it.
