No, he's definitely upset. The growing of extra limbs is always a sure sign.

Yeah, running from a wolf and triggering the chase reflex is perhaps not the best strategy. Admittedly Annie doesn't have many options, but still...

But maybe Ysengrin abandoning his humanoid form and reshaping his armor into a wolf-like body is a good sign. At least he's getting closer to normal for him, even as his sanity apparently goes bye-bye.

So he intends to do battle with a fire elemental's descendant while wearing a body made of wood? Surely you jest.

Green, living wood. His head would be a lot more vulnerable to fire than his armor.

But I don't expect battle as such. Ysengrin has clearly lost it. He could probably easily have killed Annie already by having the trees skewer her with their branches or crush her by toppling over, if he were thinking. But he's operating on an animal level and going after her with fang and claw. If she's smart, she should be able to get away.

I hope she's thoughtful enough to realize this is a manifestation of tremendous pain and rage on Ysengrin's part. And, if she can ever approach him again, to try to find out what is hurting him so much...

In a lot of Coyote myths he outsmarts himself and ends up biting off more than he can chew from a plan that works too well.

What if he planned to antagonize Ysegrinn for some purpose and overdid it?

That also seems a possibility. Or he didn't intend to antagonize him at all, but doesn't care enough not to.

He did say it was a little before his time, but not that he didn't know what the seed Bismuth is. I don't know if Annie has even asked him about it yet.

I thought it was a dog whistle!

So, use little babby rescue stick, drawing Jimmy Jims into Coyote's trap...or blinker stone into a fire-elemental asskicker?

Ahh poor Ysengrin. I think it just occurred to Annie that he's completely lost the rational side of his mind. Still really intimidating looking, I especially like panel four.

Actually, Jimmy-Jims might have just killed Ysengrin. Given the reaction in the last panel.

That would be shocking, not to mention have huge repercussions for Court-Forest relations.

But I don't think Ysengrin can be killed so easily. All that tree around him's got to help in defense.

OK, hopefully Jimmy Jims is just a little delayed in transit and will still arrive in time. Maybe Annie can think to send a gout of flame into Ysengrin's face and buy a few more seconds.

So does that conclude the matter, or can Ysengrin pull off similar aerial hijinks? Guess we find out Monday.

O... kay. Annie's safe - assuming Eglamore can land without the impact breaking her bones - and that's the important thing, but... He used the Valknut to get to her. This raises questions. And implications. Without giving answers. In other words, it's a fairly typical GC episode.

    But Annie's safe.

    And WOW they're high up!

Really? The only implication I can think of is "Jimmy stayed on good terms with Brinnie" which may or may not have consequences depending on whether or not the Ring Cycle has happened "yet".

It depends on what the Valknut is in the GC universe. If it is simply something that appears whenever an Asgardian opens a doorway to the Rainbow Bridge, that's one thing. If it is the path that goes through the Realm of the Dead, that's another. If it is the sign of the All-Father and draws on his power, that's a whole 'nother thing completely. Eglamore, a mortal (as far as we know), apparently can use at will something associated only with Norse gods and the dead.

    THAT... has implications.

Oh. I thought it was just something that Brinnie used to get places(which would point toward Rainbow Bridge or Realm of the Dead). You would think the Biffrost would have more color associated with it, though. I wonder what it is IRL.
