Default IC: SW Saga: Empire-In-Exile, Chp. I - An Imperial Ploy

The year is 131 ABY. The Sith, led by the devious Darth Krayt, have usurped the Throne that rightfully belongs to Emperor Roan Fel. You are soldiers who risked life and limb to remain loyal to the true Emperor. Loyalists cover a wide swath of society, from the noble Imperial Knights, to the upstanding Officers, to the stalwart Storm Troopers, to the wise Missionaries, to the smugglers, infiltrators, courtiers, merchants and militiamen that find themselves in the employ of the Emperor-In-Exile. Regardless of your background, you serve the Emperor well and he has rewarded you with prestige and, perhaps more importantly, his trust.

    ------------

You find yourselves aboard the Paladin, which is one of the few Pellaeon-class Star Destroyers that did not submit to Darth Krayt and his villainous regime. The Emperor has requested your presence in the briefing room to go over the plans for the next mission. You each arrive early, as would be expected when meeting the Emperor. The briefing room's walls are made of dark silver metal alloy, while the floor and ceiling are painted with a lighter silver. The room has obviously been polished in anticipation for the meeting. In the center of the room is a large crescent-shaped, jet-black table. Ten black swivel chairs sit astride the table, equidistant from one another.

Admiral Joboth Markath, the commander of the Paladin, sits at the bow of the crescent. He's an older human with short gray hair and steel-blue eyes. He's kept himself trim and fit, unlike many in the Imperial Admiralty. Next to him is an imposing, hairy figure wearing the distinctive Imperial Knight armor. Darbacca is one of the most famous Imperial Knights, it is said he cut through a hundred Sith on a mission to Naboo some months ago.

Sitting on opposite sides of the table are Quinn Calrissian, the hot shot Commander of the Fire Dragon Squadron. No one knows if he's related to the renown Lando Calrissian, but his swarthy skin and fast talking lead many to believe as much. The Fire Dragons are considered to be the best Squadron left in the Empire, all of their pilots are Flying Aces. Across from him is Chawka Fo, a female Chagrian, who leads the elite Ghoul Squad. The squad is one of the most elite Stormtrooper squads that joined the Emperor against Krayt. The squads' heroism and tactical genius during the war with the Galactic Alliance are famous around the galaxy.

Standing near the entrance to the Briefing room is a gold and black astromech designated R4-L1. The Droid bobbles and and forth between its two stubby legs - he's obviously excited.

The admiral speaks up, "The Emperor will be contacting us soon. Please don't hesitate to chit chat until then. I often find it helps people relax before a big meeting."

Darbacca growls fiercely in obvious agreement with the Admiral. Quinn rolls his eyes while Chawka Fo pulls a vibroblade out and begins to polish it with a black cloth.

Question Re: IC: SW Saga: Empire-In-Exile, Chp. I - An Imperial Ploy

Jarik pulled at the collar of his dress uniform. He absolutely loathed the stuffy thing, but one did not meet the Emperor in anything less than formal attire. How he managed to get here, Jarik would never know. Maybe the Emperor liked special forces non-coms with a flair for the unorthodox.

Jarik glanced about the room and saw the flyboy staring up at the ceiling in apparent boredom and silently wished he had the clout to get away with that. The Queen Ghoul was polishing her blade, and it made him nervous. He'd seen her practice with it and he'd be Sith'd before he'd risk getting on her bad side.

The wookiee Knight was another worrying fixture of the room. He'd tangled with a smaller member of the species on a mission some years ago, an altercation he had no desire to repeat.

Jarik patted his pockets, searching for a pack of cigarettes that wasn't there.
"Where'd I put those kriffing things..."

Morden Rho is like steel in appearance. Strong and sharp but cold and rigid.

He has a long, narrow face with some of the hints of youthfulness still left to it. However his cheek bones are sharply prominent and there is a harshness to the contours of his face. A ragged, half healed scar almost bisects his face.
Currently his brown hair is shaved close to his skull in a military fashion although a thin strip of hair runs down the center of his chin.
His eyes are pale blue, almost like ice. They emit about as much warmth as you would expect as they dispassionately appraise the occupants of the room.
His stance is stiff, almost regimental. Despite that his right hand twitches above the hilt of his lightsaber attached to his belt.
Naturally his crimson armor is spotless.

Seeing Darbacca he immediately clenches his fist against his chest in a traditional Imperial Knight salute. For a moment he seems even more rigid and formal.

Pivoting smartly on his heel he faces the Admiral. That is follow by a sharp, curt bow.

"I am here, as summoned," he reports, his voice quiet and crisp with the affectation of a Courescanti accent.

Darbacca salutes Rho in kind and proceeds to growl and grunt loudly. The Admiral chuckles, "I agree Darbacca, both Knight Rho and Sergeant Corrino are quite dashing in their formal wears. I believe Commander Calrissian could learn quite a bit from their example."

Slightly embraced, Quinn takes note and sits up straight in his chair.

Lillian was against the wall, leaning with her back to it, arms crossed and eyes scanning the room. Once talking began, she listened and began to consider what precisely needed to be done.

A moment later she had a thumb under each strap of her bandolier and sashayed into the more well-lit area of the briefing room. Dressed in an olive tank top and some dark urban camouflage pants, a pair of durasteel-toed boots peeping out of the bottom, and with a heavily-loaded bandolier criss-crossing said tank top it certainly didn't seem like this Zeltron was anything more than some gutter-rat. The short haircut and myriad piercings didn't subtract from that image, either.

Without her stealth suit, Lillian felt exposed. But it wasn't something you just put on -- like a dress, you only wore a stealth suit if the situation demanded it. Or if you wanted to feel pretty.

She sat down in one of the chairs (presuming there was one open) and smiled at everyone in the room. "Well hey there," she began, her accent foreign, "I'm sorry I didn't realize we were supposed to get all dressed up. I can go put on something more appropriate, if you'd prefer. I get off the transport and they hurried me up here, so I figured whatever I was wearing was good enough, yeah?"

Lilly sprawled a little, reminiscent of a cat in the way she took to the chair. She apparently found it appropriately comfortable.

"Incredible ship, by the way," she added after a bit of sprawling. "And it's an honor to be in the same room as most of you, yeah? Not to mention that the Emperor himself is going to contact us... it's just, wow. Didn't expect it."

Jarik had to bite his tongue to keep a snort of laughter from escaping his mouth. As it was, he simply smiled, and vaguely wondered if the Imperial Knight had a durasteel pipe lodged in his backside. He leaned back a little and wondered how long this briefing was going to take. He was supposed to be meeting his old team for a beer this evening. Marian and Wren would be completely speechless when they saw him in his dress uniform, a thought which widened his smile even further.

When the Zeltron sauntered into the room, he couldn't help but stare. By the Force she was good looking. What was she doing here? She looked like a grunt in every since of the word. What did a grunt do to get called here? Unless...she was something more than she appeared.

He turned his gaze back to the Imperial Knight. He kept his tone friendly, and miraculously devoid of laughter.

"Are you going to sit, friend? You're makin' me nervous."

Glances briefly at Jarik, his eyebrows raising a micron in surprise. There is a momentary pause as he carefully dissects the stormtrooper's words.

Rho then glances at the Admiral and the Knight for permission. Slowly, awkwardly he pulls out a chair as if handling a potentially dangerous animal before lowering himself slowly onto it.

He clasps his fingers together, still sitting stiff and straight for attention. His brows lower again in patient concentration.

Kres'tae'nuruodo enters the room, his red eyes scanning over the gathered attendees with a blank expression on his face. Completing his scan with the Admiral briefly he gives a slight bow to the man and speaks, his voice calm and confident and his mannerisms giving no hint that he might be uncomfortable in his dress uniform.

"Captain Staen reporting as ordered Admiral."

Following this he moves to take one of the seats around the table, apparently unconcerned with order or placement, and does his best to ignore the slight antics taking place around him as he sits ramrod straight and awaits the briefing.

Beaming with pride, Admiral Markath smiles as the Zeltron compliments his ship. "The Paladin is one of the most powerful ships in the galaxy. It shall be a spear with which the Emperor will stab at the vile Sith Lord and the traitorous Moffs. As for your attire, don't worry, the Emperor cares far more about your skills and loyalty than your clothes."

Chaka Fo eyes Jarik as he prods Knight Rho. Her glare could kill the faint of heart.

Lillian watched the affair with a look of easy nonchalance before catching the Admiral's eye and nodding at his words, especially concerning attire. Glancing over at the other speaker, she gave him a friendly wave before letting her head wall backwards and rest on the chair, eyes towards the silvered ceilings. When Staen entered, she looked down from the ceiling without moving her head, noted his Chissiness, and went back to the ceiling.

"So I'm Lilly," she said, "and I know some of the people in the room who're really knowable, yeah? But who're you two?"

Darbacc begins to hoot, howl and growl loudly.

Commander Calrissian speaks up, "Darbacca, do we have to listen to another of your war tales?"

Darbacca growls angrily, as if saying "yes, yes you do."

For those that speak Shyriiwook, the Imperial Knight recounts a heroic tale of how he jumped off a speeding TIE Fighter, crashed through an ornate glass dome and landed - on his feet - inside a Neimodian casino. Once inside he fought a hundred Sith, easily defeating each in turn.

For those that do not speak Shyriiwook, all you hear is a big furball growling at you while he pantomimes what he did on some adventure.

Meanwhile, the admiral whispers to the good Captain, "With all the cover provided by our furry friend here, I wanted to take a moment to ask you a question. What do you think of the other members of the team? The Emperor seems to think highly of them and their skills. I'm not entirely sure his faith is justified."

Rho leans forward a little, giving him a better view of the Zeltron. His gaze lingers on her a little longer than usual. His brows knit in thought. Smmothly he reclines back to his original position. As the Chiss enters he gives a polite salute and nod.

Staen pays some attention to the Wookie's story, parsing and translating the words in his mind with some ease, the Chiss in general, and Staen in particular being known for their terrific language skills. While he does so he also listens to the Admiral's words and figures on a proper response, which he whispers back.

"While I too share some of your doubts I have no doubt the Emperor knew what he was doing when he chose such an eclectic and diverse group. I trust that there is a reason for this group in particular being chosen for this, whatever that reason might be." he says, speaking calmly and smiling as he mentions sharing some of the man's doubts.

"Hope I'm not too late to the party," Wargate Graff drawls as he saunters into the room, but his words are largely drowned out by the hollering of the crimson-armored Wookie. His casual posture is belied by the way his eyes flick rapidly around the room, sizing up the others present. This was a high-powered group, no doubt about it - if they'd called him here, there would be a reason. He nods toward the head of the table and grabs a seat next to the gussied-up ground pounder, spinning it around to face away from the table and seating himself on it backward, arms folded across the top of the chair's back. He gives the trooper a friendly smile and nod before leaning back to take a long, lingering look at the Zeltron woman, his smile widening unconsciously as he does so.

Lilly listened to the people in the room, although Darbacca's story certainly was louder than most. It was difficult to eavesdrop with story being told, but she hadn't been particularly trained to obtain information in a crowded room. There were specific agents for that sort of work. She was an infiltrator, an assassin. And besides, these were Imperial men and women. There wasn't any reason to collect information on them.

Unless they turned out to be traitors to the True Emperor. That certainly would warrant a bit of a change-of-tact.

A new individual entered, but Lillian didn't take her eyes off the ceiling, still in the sprawled position across most of her chair. Feigning disinterest and boredom was useful when in an unknown environment, because it made others make the first move -- and you never wanted to make the first move, not with unknown variables in a room.

    Default 'Crash' Corrino

Jarik absorbed the glare in mute horror, though he somehow managed to keep smiling. Sith spit.

He turned in his chair as the others walked in one by one. The Chiss captain, who looked about as flexible as a durasteel bulkhead, and the...whatever the human was, a smuggler maybe. A merry band of misfits. It reminded him of the first mission with Delta, everyone sizing each other up, weighing options, plans of attack. He wished he had his cigarettes.

The Zeltron's voice brought him out of his reverie.

"Sergeant Jarik Corrino, Imperial Special Forces, formerly the demolitions expert of Delta-45. The boys call me Crash."

I like to carry a few radiation grenades with me wherever I go, because you never know right? But it's great to have someone in the room who can actually do things with the boom, other than just turn people into not-people. How long were you with the Delta-45?"

She turned her head down a bit so she could look into Jarik's eyes, one of her eyebrows raised in curiosity.

As Darbacca ends his story, Graff enters the room and takes a seat. Out of the corner of his eye, he spies Chawka Fo, the Chagrian Stormtrooper, giving him the once over. She nods at Graff and flashes a coy smile. She quickly returns to cleaning her vibroblade.

    Jarik flashed an ammused grin.

"Rad grendades are no joke, but not my style. Anyway, I worked with Delta-45 for twelve years but only with the newest three members for three years. We, uh, have a bit of a high turnover. I'm ten years older than all of them. My newest CO was a slip of a girl fresh out of the academy and Sith me she was a tight ass when we met. Eh, I won't bore with details, it's all in my dossier."

Jarik barked a dry laugh, ran a hand through his short hair and suddenly looked very tired.

"Seventeen years total in service to the Empire. I feel way older than 30."

And looks it. Lillian wondered whether he was her type or not. Sort of reminiscent of Gunterson, and that caused all sorts of trouble. Pushing the hedonistic consideration to the back of her mind she nodded and stretched a bit more, yawning. "I don't think I've got the clearance to read your file, actually. Or dossier, rather. But that's still impressive, seventeen years... congratulations. And thanks for doing it -- we need dedicated men like you to take the Empire back for the True Emperor, yeah?"

Graff blinks at the mention of rad grenades, smile fading, but waits for the soldier - "Crash," and the way things are shaping up he'll probably need to remember that - to finish before he speaks. He blinks again when he notices the Chagrian Stormie smiling at him, and tentatively returns her smile. It's not like Rina could get a whole lot madder at him than she already was... and anyway, she was off on a run somewhere right now, had left without telling him where the job was or how long it'd take her.

"Ca- Wargate Graff," his tongue stumbles as he introduces himself, and he dips his head as if to bow. "If I'm here, it means the Empire has an urgent desire to see your happy faces get into someplace that the Sith urgently want to keep you out of," he smiles thinly, then scowls. "And it means Intelligence figures my cover is blown past any hope of salvaging. 'Course that ain't exactly a surprise - but it ain't exactly welcome, either."

A small bird-like creature wearing a customized Imperial uniform, sans rank, clears the stairs and enters the briefing room with short, quick steps. His feathers are dark blue, except for a crown of scarlet plumage about his head. His eyes are obscured by some kind of interface visor. In one hand he carries a simple datapad, which he appears completely engrossed in, and in the other, he carries a nozzled disposable cup. He nearly walks into the R4 unit, making a sharp right turn to avoid the droid, then places his cup up on the table before climbing into the seat at the end of the table, leaving an open spot between himself and Graff. Once seated, he reclaims his cup and tips it back, emptying the last few drops past his beak and down his gullet. He looks up from his datapad, taking in the motley crew arrayed around the table.

"I'm early?" he asks, shaking his empty cup slightly.
"Should have refilled on the way," he mutters.

He begins to swivel his chair towards the exit, but catches the eye of the Admiral before hopping down. Thinking better of leaving the meeting before it begins, he pulls off his visor and unholsters what appears to be a heavily modified Imperial sidearm, laying them both down on the table in front of him.

"Hi, I'm Ice, for those of you who don't know me," he says.

Jarik smirked as the feathered alien walked in, noting the cup of...something it was drinking.
    "Cheers Ice. What's your poison?"

Lillian moved her eyes over and looked at the bird thing. Thaaat wasn't a race she was particularly familiar with. "Lilly," she said, nodding to him. "And we've got Wargate Graff over there, and Sergeant Crash over... there." Lillian punctuated each 'there' with a lazy pointing gesture.

"I'm sure you know our esteemed hosts, and there are a few whose names I haven't caught yet."

"Ah yes, my apologies. I was so engrossed in our honorable Knight's," Staen says, indicating Darbacca, "story that it seems I neglected to introduce myself. For those of you who don't know me I am Captain, that's ground force Captain, not Naval, for those of you who might not know Imperial rank insignia by heart, Kres'tae'nuruodo." he says, his voice forming syllables that would be difficult for the average human to pronounce. "However you may call me by my core name, Staen."

The Chiss observes the strange mixture of individuals in the room with a polite smile and doesn't react to the newcomer's somewhat less than military behavior.

    Ice

"It was a photon fizzler, Ice replies, "now it's just half-melted ice cubes."

The Mrlssi pops the top off of his cup and considers the ice cubes, then decides against eating them and places his cup back down on the table.

    Default 'Crash' Corrino

Jarik sat up straight and gave a deferential nod to the Chiss captain. He did not look like a being to trifle with, and definitely looked like he earned those insignia.

"Good to meet you Captain Staen, sir. Sergeant Jarik Corrino, formerly of Delta-45. Sorry for the lack of decorum, sir. I'm an old non-com that doesn't spend enough time out of the field."

He caught the tail end of the...bird-man's sentence and couldn't help but grin as his tongue betrayed him.

"Heh, not enough kick for me, but to each his own."

He leaned back in his seat and tugged at his collar again. Sith spit but this uniform chaffed.

"It'll be good to get back into the field again. This leave is making me soft and we can't have that, now can we?"
