Re: [DnD4E] Snowbody's Keep on the Shadowfell (IC)
Zimelda scowls fiercely. "You creatures are astoundingly stupid. 'Oh, me know! Let's go poke at the scary priestess lady thing! Surely no bad things happen!'" she mockingly imitates the kobolds. "Unfortunately, bad things do happen. Like this!"
Zimelda raises her mace up above her head with both hands, and then brings it down on the wounded Quickblade. Whether or not the blow kills the creature, she then spins around 360 degrees, and with a feral snarl smashes her mace into the face of the other Quickblade beside her. Its agony channels through her mace, knitting her own wounds and easing her pain.

Re: [DnD4E] Snowbody's Keep on the Shadowfell (IC)
Round 3 continued
Mertes moves out of cover, the javelins bouncing off his hardened skin. He charges the kobold, but it leaps out of the way of the battleaxe.
Alessa splashes the kobolds next to her, but the attack is not very accurate, only causing one of the minions to step out of the way. She then reverts to humanoid form, causing some confusion and distress to the nearby kobolds.
Arjhan and Zimelda combine their attacks. Blade, mace, and dragonfire work together to put down the badly wounded Quickblade, and leave the next one bloody and burned. The minion somehow moves out of the way before the fire reaches it.
Round 4
One of the dragonshields, noting that one quickblade has fallen and the other is barely on his feet, calls to the Wyrmpriest, with a note of malicious glee in his voice: "Tir wux rigluin letoclo?"
"Thric, froneel ui onureth rihlilg," responds the bone-masked kobold with a visible shudder. It gestures to one of the minions, which pokes its spear at Arjhan's feet to disrupt his battle rhythm, then backs off. (Aid another success)
Putting on a brave face, the wyrmpriest then approaches Arjhan, taunting him: "Dout ibafarshani re plythu, ocuir wer vis vers Irontooth majakic!" Rearing back, he sends a searing burst of flame over Zimelda and Arjhan, managing to even burn through some of the Dragonborn's scales (2 hits vs fort, 12 damage each to Zimelda and Arjhan, Arjhan is Bloodied), then backs off slightly.
Not knowing what to make of Alessa's transformation into a human, the kobolds near her nervously back off, and head towards the scrum just inside the waterfall.
After the flames cease, the minions use the cover of the steam to scurry into position again, and resume pestering the two Deputies. A javelin misses Zimelda, but the other kobolds do a good job of interfering with their defenses. (3 more aid another successes) Pressing their advantage, the Quickblades charge. Zimelda is saved by the recently-conjured nimbus of magical protection, (quickblade 2 misses) and the newly arrived Quickblade slips in the water and doesn't get off an attack on Arjhan (fumble).
Up on the walkway, Mertes is suddenly beset by three kobolds who each rush up to him and try to push him off the walkway. The Goliath is one with the mountain, and stands firm (1 aid another success, 2 bullrushes miss fort).
Further along the walkway, the kobolds with the wolf skull fling it and retrieve it again, resulting in another bonk on the head for Arjhan. (hit reflex, 5 damage to Arjhan)
The goblin claps his hand to his forehead as the two quickblades flail uselessly, then nods at the Dragonshields, and they start to slowly advance toward the battle. "No! I still win!" calls the Wyrmpriest in broken Common.

Re: [DnD4E] Snowbody's Keep on the Shadowfell (IC)
Alessa
The elemental in her human guise strides forward towards the melee. Mok jetner. Pjemk! she roars; though vocal sounds are heard, most of the speech consists of sounds of the ocean, washing waves and rain, overlaid with the short words. As she says this, a portal to the Elemental Chaos is ripped open for a brief moment. For a moment, it seems if nothing has happened, but then a wave of grey-green liquid leaps from the portal, squeezing through just as it closes. A tendril of the slime stretches over a kobold in its path, attempting to snare the wyrmpriest. This lesser elemental will obey me. Treat it as an ally, she informs her allies. Alessa then collapses back into a roiling wave of water.
Unfortunately, the sloshing slime completely misses the wyrmpriest.

Re: [DnD4E] Snowbody's Keep on the Shadowfell (IC)
Mertes
The goliath grow frustated against the enemies, but still keep bulding up his rage for the time he'll face an worthy opponent. Instead, he walk right into the enemy group forcing his way on the other side to be between them all. As he walk by, he swing Life-Ender with all his might at one of the kobolds. The weapon live up to its name as it cut the monster nearly in half, sending it flying over the edge down to the floor bellow.
Bolstered by the enemies blood and not too worried about the weaklings, the goliath ignore the weak one beside him and go for the skull thrower enemy. Once close enough, he exert himself and charge in axe leading the way. As the weapon hit, the goliath keep his momentum, beheading the small creature as he pass by, and keep running forward toward the next one further onto the ledge yelling like a mad man. Once he arrive up to the kobold, Life-Ender simply end the poor creature futur as it cut his left arm.

Re: [DnD4E] Snowbody's Keep on the Shadowfell (IC)
Arjhan's armor and weapon turn the water around him to steam, radiating the heat from two successive fire blasts.

Re: [DnD4E] Snowbody's Keep on the Shadowfell (IC)
Round 4 continued
Alessa summons a desperately needed ally, then returns to her watery shape. The kobolds react with disgust toward the amorphous blob.
Zimelda takes a minute to pull herself together. Good thing for her that Arjhan is drawing the attention of the kobolds.
Mertes barrels through the kobold lines, mocking their feeble efforts to slow him down or even get past his rock-hard skin. The walkway is a little too narrow for him to get off a good swing, so he leaves the three kobolds behind and charges off toward the west edge of the cavern, easily dispatching the two kobolds there. He exults in the kills, but his soul lusts for real battle, not these contemptible weaklings.
Arjhan's sword sweep finishes off the second quickblade and draws the attention of all near him.
Round 5
The wyrmpriest calls back to the Dragonshields, "I clean ugly mess -- see?" It spits a ball of fire at the newly appeared slime, sizzling some of its essence away (hit reflex, 7 damage to slime). The goblin grunts in approval, but the dragonshields snort in derision.
In deference to the Wyrmpriest, one of the minions peels away from Arjhan and charges at the slime, amazingly slicing it in half! (CRIT, 4 damage to slime). The halves reform, but the slime is looking pretty shaky.
Another minion heads into the center of the cavern to retrieve the skull. It kicks it up to the kobolds that just failed to deter Mertes. Tears come to its eyes and it cries out in pain, grabbing its foot -- but then it steels itself, thanks to the determination to fight on provided by the Wyrmpriest. (Minion takes 5 damage for flubbing the kick)
A minion catches the skull and grabs onto the pull-rope, then hands the skull to its adjacent fellow. That one throws the skull at Alessa, but misses. The first one then reels the skull back in. The third kobold scampers along the east walkway and throws a javelin at the slime, splattering it even more. (hit, 4 damage to slime)
The other minions swarm around Arjhan to disrupt his footing and loosen his armor, partially succeeding (aid another 2 success 1 failure). This opens the way for the final Quickblade to charge in and plunge his sword into the hip joint of Arjhan's armor, spilling the Dragonborn's blood again (hit, 13 damage to Arjhan after resist). But the servant of the Platinum Dragon just looks even more determined.
The dragonshields continue their slow advance. They, at least, will be worthy foes for Mertes...if he can get there in time.

Re: [DnD4E] Snowbody's Keep on the Shadowfell (IC)
Zimelda grins at Arjhan after his quip. "Oh but Arjhan dearie, do not forget that I am an evil creature of darkness. Fire is bad! Hence why people chase me with torches!" she exclaims playfully.
Her grin disappears, though, when Arjhan gets stabbed. "Hey! Hands off the Paladin! Only I am allowed to torment him!" she barks indignantly.
She grips her mace and smashes it into the face of the kobold minion beside her, hopefully shattering his skull. If he goes down, she then places a hand against her own chest. Flickering purple light glows around her armored hand, and her wounds begin to heal. She then reaches out towards Arjhan, hands still aglow. His own wounds begin to heal, flesh knitting and bruises dissipating.
It leaves her open to attack, but whatever. The team needs her.
Oh damn. She's a team player now. As the inevitable counter attack comes her way, Zimelda's eyes go wide in realization, and a stream of Drow curses and swears erupt within her mind.
Zimelda notices the slime minion taking a beating, and holds her left hand out towards it. Dark energy flickers around her armored hand, and she channels the healing energies of Lolth into the inter-dimension being.

Re: [DnD4E] Snowbody's Keep on the Shadowfell (IC)
Wincing visibly at being called "dearie" Arjhan laughs. Anticipating the Kobolds' counter attacks, he points his sword at the strongest looking one, shouting, "Ekess ve!"
Then he slams his mailed fist against his shield, and Bahamut's fury rings from the shield like a bell, enveloping his sword arm with a visible golden sound. "I swing the sword of my god!" he shouts, and the ringing reaches an ultimate crescendo as it comes in contact with the enemy.

Re: [DnD4E] Snowbody's Keep on the Shadowfell (IC)
Round 5 continued
Mertes strikes down another kobold minion. Just two are left up on the walkway, and they're both looking worried.
Alessa's water blast sends the two minion kobolds scurrying. The quickblade isn't affected immediately, but the pool surges around him, pushing him toward the attacks of the other heroes.
Zimelda's mace is now covered with the blood of multiple unfortunate kobolds, and the nimbus of protection is reestablished around her and Arjhan. Thanks to the cleric's intervention, the slime reconstitutes itself completely, but a cost must be paid for healing this outsider -- the life energy that flows into it is drained out of Alessa. The kobold splutter in astonishment and protest-- and recoil in disgust.
Bahamut rewards Arjhan's loyalty, granting him accuracy to hit, and strength to deal a mortal wound to the Quickblade. Somehow it stays on its feet, fighting on from sheer determination, but it surely won't survive more than a few seconds.
Round 6
The wyrmpriest catches Zimelda's eye. He seems to be taking it personally that Zimelda is healing the slime. "No mess in us true home!" He spits a ball of fire at the Drow, which manages to arc past Arjhan and singe her again. (wyrmpriest hit reflex, 11 damage to Zimelda, she is Bloodied)
Down in the melee, the kobold minions shift around as usual. One of them skewers the slime with its spear; it just flows away from the puny strike (minion hit, 4 damage to slime). The other two harass Arjhan again (aid another, 2 successes), hoping the Quickblade can repeat its last strike. But its strength gives out too soon, and it is just too weak to get past Arjhan's defenses. (Quickblade miss Arjhan)
The minion who had caught the skull throws it perfectly up to the remaining kobold on the upper ledge. It draws the skull back, then flings it at the slime, slashing it in two again (8 damage to slime). The kobold then heads up the tunnel out of sight; Mertes can hear him jump over the caltrops. The skull gets stuck next to the slime with no one to retrieve it.
Near Mertes, the kobold's eyes widen at this seemingly invincible being literally twice its height, and it runs screaming to the south. The goblin looks up and yells "Coward!" at it.
One of the dragonshields walks up to the wyrmpriest and grabs him by the shoulder, pointing south and whispering something in Draconic that Arjhan can't hear. The wyrmpriest roars with anger, but acquiesces, and withdraws to the south, still glaring at the dragonshield. The other one steps toward the melee, baring its teeth to Arjhan. Both of them seem to be waiting for something.

Re: [DnD4E] Snowbody's Keep on the Shadowfell (IC)
DM
Mertes burst out laughing wildly as the kobolds weakling flee. Looking around, he spot the wyrmpriest just below him. Placing all his attention onto the creature, and jump down onto it, Life-Ender leading the way. A split second before he crash onto the wyrmpriest, the goliath swing his greataxe onto the kobold.
SpoilerIf you're trying to land on the kobold (and pass the jump check), you can choose to roll 2d10 or 3d10 for falling damage. This damage number applies to both you and the kobold, but you'll get to reduce yours by half your acrobatics check, and the kobold doesn't get to reduce it if you hit (but if you miss the kobold takes no damage). Hit or miss you can attack with the weapon, but MBA only.

Re: [DnD4E] Snowbody's Keep on the Shadowfell (IC)
Alessa
The elemental begins to recoalesce, shifting towards the throne room slightly as soon the staff-wielding human woman stands before the kobolds once again.
I shall gladly remove the mess from your home, priest, she deadpans as the water of the pool begins to swirl around her. She unleashes it in a torrential wave of water at the kobolds arrayed before her. While the animated water continues to distract the quickblade, the slime strikes again. It grabs the helpless kobold, and rather disgustingly seems to digest it, as the poor creature seems to dissolve in the translucent slime.

Re: [DnD4E] Snowbody's Keep on the Shadowfell (IC)
Zimelda laughs haughtily as Alessa and Mertes slaughter several kobolds in the span of a few seconds. Purple energy flickers and coalesces around her left hand, while her right hand rests her mace on her shoulder. The tingling and burning of her seared flesh melts away, her flesh healing through divine aid. "Even with armor and magic... a small lizard is still naught more than a frail, insolent thing."
"Observe!" she barks, before zig-zagging around Arjhan and going to join Alessa with the Kobold Dragonshield. She grips her mace with both hands, and with a demented grin, smashes the weapon down right atop the creature's skull.

Re: [DnD4E] Snowbody's Keep on the Shadowfell (IC)
Round 6 continued
The howl of a wolf descends through the cavern -- but it's not a canid, it's Mertes descending. The wyrmpriest spots him at the last possible instant, and dodges out of the way of the falling mountain -- but right into the path of Mertes's axe. (Mertes miss jump but hit charge, 17 damage to Wyrmpriest, not yet bloodied). Mertes very nearly sticks the landing, but the debris on the cave floor prevents him from getting solid footing. He lands at the Wyrmpriest's feet on his backside, but the only thing wounded is his pride. (Mertes loses 1 THP, to 23/39 HP + 3 THP)
The southern dragonshield whirls around, his eyes blazing, and is about to charge at Mertes before the Goliath can get up. Before it can move, it's caught up in Alessa's powerful wave, spun around, and slammed onto the floor, along with the other Dragonshield and some minions. Only one minion stands firm amidst the torrent. Meanwhile, the slime engulfs and begins digesting the final Quickblade. Flat on their backs, the two dragonshields can only curse in frustration as they're denied the chance to charge their targets due to being grounded. (2 minions hit and killed, 1 minion missed, 2 dragonshields hit, both lose their readied actions, one due to being out of range, the other due to being prone)
Zimelda, trying to reassert her selfish impulses, uses the last of her healing reserves to fortify herself. Who needs those goody-goody "teammates" anyway? (Zimelda to 24/29 HP) Yet perhaps her conscience pricks at her, or perhaps the universe wants to teach her a lesson, as the Dragonshield stands firm beneath her blow, her consdescending words proven vain (fumble).
Arjhan finishes off another minion before going to join his companions against the newly arrived threat.
Round 7
Totally cowed by Mertes's daring leap, the Wyrmpriest daintily edges away, emitting a putrid musk of fear. He tentatively stabs at Mertes on the floor, but his spear point gets caught among the rocks (FUMBLE), so he continues to back away.
The goblin leaps up in rage as his skirmishers and minions are cut down, and his two favorite warriors unceremoniously dumped on the floor of his cave. "MY CAVE! MY LACKEYS!" he shouts, blood vessels bulging in his eyeballs. He breaks into a charge at Mertes on the floor, bringing down one of the two axes he wields, opening a deep wound. (goblin hits, 7 - 3 THP = 4 damage to Mertes) Besides the axes, he wears leather armor and a mantle made out of a wolf pelt -- freshly skinned by the look of it (calling to mind the wolf slain by Mukesh that the kobolds carried off). Tied to his armor with rope, is what looks like a bent stick -- but on closer inspection, it's actually a withered kobold arm, severed at the shoulder. When he opens his mouth, the source of his name is revealed -- his teeth have been replaced with sawblades.
With a wave of its spear, the last remaining minion ironically welcomes Arjhan to the battle, then spits right in his eye before rushing off behind Alessa. It's only saliva, and it distracts Arjhan for just an instant, but...(Aid another success)
...it gives the Dragonshield the opening it needs. Rising from the ground, it rushes at Mertes and punches its sword right through his armor, and the mighty Dragonborn falls. (Dragonshield 2 hits, 11 damage to Arjhan, he's Marked, Prone, Unconscious, and Dying). The goblin calls out "Much blood in that one -- make good sacrifice! Keep live!" The Dragonshields salute.
The other Dragonshield rises and lands a vicious blow on the elemental while she's in her more vulnerable form. (Dragonshield 1 hits, 12 damage to Alessa, she's Marked) and then shifts away from the two women, beckoning them to give chase and abandon their fallen friend.

Alessa
Zimelda, you have superior first aid talents. Please tend to the paladin, says Alessa, before collapsing back into her elemental form. The wave shifts forward and strikes at one of of the kobolds, hoping to slide it behind her so that she and Zimelda stand between the kobold and the prone Arjhan. As the Alessa wounds the Dragonshield, the odd purple light goes into its eyes again, and animated by the dark energy, it swings wildly at Alessa, managing to land an effective blow. (3 damage to Alessa after resist)
The slime slithers towards its next victim, and the kobold minion shudders.
The goblin freezes in his tracks at the irrefusable command in Mertes's yell. Life-Ender comes down, but the goblin with an effort of will manages to twist away just in time, turning the strike into a minor blow. Still, the kick sends Irontooth spinning and dizzy.
Zimelda feeds Arjhan a potion and then quickly tries to pick up the dragonborn, but drops him. At least the potion returned him to consciousness. He stands and swings at the nearby dragonshield, but his aim is off.
Round 8
Screwing its face into a grimace, the minion charges at the slime, but slips in the water, barely catching itself before it falls.
The dragonshields, angry that Arjhan is back in the fight, focus their ire on Zimelda. She readies herself for the farther one's charge, and manages to deflect the blow. But she can't prevent the closer one from sweeping her legs out from under her. It slashes her side as she falls hard, hitting her head on the stone floor of the cave (14 damage to Zimelda, KO). She's out cold, and her legs are all tangled up. The dizzy goblin claps his hands gleefully.
The effect on Arjhan is...well...different. A holy rage starts to build in him as his ally is struck down.
"Priest! Where giant? I hit him!" calls Irontooth. The kobold priest tries to push him towards Mertes, but he is just too dizzy to move. So the goblin crosses his axes in a defensive stance.

DM
The goliath laugh wildly at the weak attemp of the priest. Then he heard his allies cry out for Zimelda, which wipe a little smile from his face, which become serious again. He push back his hand pain again and tells the goblin,
"Dont worry, I'll come back to finish your off in a minute, you can pray to your stupid god while I slaughter the rest of your minions."
The raging goliath heads to his friends help, charging at the bloodied goblin defender, hoping to finish him off.

Alessa
The elemental shifts into her humanoid form, sliping between the slime and the dragonshield. I will tend the priestess, she states emotionlessly, bending down with a potion she procures from her pouch. She pours the life-giving liquid into Zimelda's mouth. Dos ph' ssrig'luini, Yathrin. Inbau phor. Her slime then strikes at the wounded dragonshield, arcing over Alessa's shoulder.

Re: [DnD4E] Snowbody's Keep on the Shadowfell (IC)
Arjhan goes stiff at the sound of Zimelda's armor clattering to the ground. He spins to face the kobold that felled her, "Vi phlita baclax!"
A terrible sight to behold, bleeding from many wounds, his armor stained with the gore of recent battle, golden tears steaming around his eyes, waves of heat shimmering from his face, and drips of molten dirt being melted from under his scales, Arjhan lets out an inarticulate bellow and swings his sword with all the might of Bahamut. For good or ill, he can't even remember, revenge is all that is on his mind.

Re: [DnD4E] Snowbody's Keep on the Shadowfell (IC)
The dragonshield uses a dirty trick, and before Zimelda even knows what is happening, she's on the floor, bleeding freely from a grievous wound to her side. The world goes black...
A moment later, her eyes flutter open. Alessa and Arjhan's efforts bring her back to consciousness. With a growl of effort, the Drow quickly staggers to her feet. However, it is clear that she has little fight left in her. Blood is running from the corners of her mouth, her breathing is shallow, and her stance is off as she favors her right side. Blood is also trickling down the side of her armor from the wound and the joints, pooling around her boot. Another hit, and she may go down again. Permanently.
Of course, that doesn't stop her from making a ferocious snarl and smashing her mace into the face of the kobold who struck her down a moment before.
