Re: Playground 4: SAN Overboard!
25th day of Amber's Fall, Dockside
The Rescue of Arukumedez
"Not that I'm aware of." Rayle shrugs. "I'm doing this mostly as a favor."
The treasure hunter considers how best to phrase her end of the bargain. "There are some clues about Compass Rose Swords around Wayfarer's Point, but the one I can point you to for certain is that there's a big hint concerning Amatu up at Castle Greycourt. That is, of course, if you're willing to ask for help from a human like Lucien." With that, Rayle takes off for the market.
SpoilerI don't know if Rayle would run into Drallic and Myst on the way back from the docks or not. If she does, that will influence her choice.Amazing Zealot avatar by Elder Tsofu.

Re: Playground 4: SAN Overboard!
Deck of the Plunderer's Folly,
26th of Amber's Fall
Farlin is welcomed aboard, as I assume that Vasae would have logically told Rackham about him once business was all said and done. In any case, Rackham simply points him over to the ship's wheel.
"The wheel is right over there. Navigator Stroum should already be in position, if you need any help with coordinate mapping and such."
As Farlin presumably wanders off to deal with the steering, Rackham notices Tillik's approach. When Tillik asks his simple and entirely reasonable question, Rackham responds in his usual manner, simultaneously authoritative and informal:
(Note that, as a Player, I am significantly less familiar with Tillik and the Kodari than Rackham would be. If there is a more appropriate pronoun or title to be used here, assume that he uses it.)
"That's a good question, Tillik. The plan will naturally vary significantly based on the specifics of the situation, but the general framework of my plan is that we will first neutralize any direct threats, then sweep through the Esmeralda to ensure that it is not in any further danger. Then, we will wait for the straggling ships that seek to make an unscrupulous fortune, neutralize them, then take all of the looter ships as prizes and sell them back in port. After, of course, ensuring that the Esmeralda itself will be able to safely reach the City of Tir for repairs. Any further questions, or shall we set off?"Last edited by BladeofObliviom; 2012-07-30 at 12:45 AM.

Re: Playground 4: SAN Overboard!
25th of Amber's Fall, MorningClive
"Rescue of Arukumedez"
10:25
Spoiler
"Arukumedez." Is a worried correction. Will Clive be ok to search with the wrong name? Myst wonders about this a little.
The thief and time comment of Clive made Myst look more depressed. She drinks more of the drink to try and raise spirits, but it isn't so helpful now.
"Thank you!" She says with grateful distraction. The words of Clive make her earnest to continue.. "Let's try to meet at 11:00?" She guesses. Myst isn't sure about time. But quick is good. To be finish within 30, the minutes, she hopes.
With distraction, Myst hurries to continue looking for Arukumedez, though she looks a little more positive than before. At least, she has stopped crying.
10:45Clive
Spoiler
Searching the market, of course Clive has his contacts and also a charming way, so information can be gathered quickly. The only thing that he learns is that there maybe is someone on the docks who is interested in artifacts. The other choice of course is that it is possible that a pawn shop may have received such an owl. Hopefully it has not become blind because of robbers.
Myst would probably be horrified to see such a tragedy.
Another option of course is to try to find Drallic. In a busy market a minotaur cannot be hidden easily.
10:40Drallic
Spoiler
Myst turns in surprise to hear the voice of Drallic. To say [startled] it is the expression, but to become relieved some to see Drallic.
"Is that so?" Myst asks with hopeful expression. "Thank you very much Drallic! Yes, please! Let's go quickly!" Myst says. Hope has returned in her expression, but she is nervous for the owl too.
Before to leave, Myst makes a thankful bow to the gargoyles too. But they don't respond.
10:45Rayle
Spoiler
Ba=Gamu's grin is biting. "You're so noble, Rayle." He says like iron. He does look thoughtful at the words of Rayle however, and nods.
"Very well. Perhaps I will go to Castle Greycourt the next time." As you leave he calls politely.
"Don't get your pants too dirty, Bancross!" From Ba=Gamu, a somehow pleasant farewell.
He turns to his lizard-men guards and whispers to them. The loading continues of the ship, while Rayle continues back towards the market.
Rayle, Drallic, Myst
11:00
For Drallic, Myst seems to be anxious to hurry to the dock, but to be walking quickly now, to make a pace with the minotaur. It is better to imagine Myst is to follow Drallic, who can easily make a path in the market. But even as moving, Myst is to look here and there, to look for an owl, or to be worried about Non. For Drallic however, as some people move in front, Rayle become see-able.
And for Rayle, coming from the docks, Drallic was seen for sometime, and so a chance meeting like this could easily be arranged.
"Ms. Bancross, did you come from the docks? Drallic said that someone on the dock must have Arukumedez! Did you find him?" She asks hopefully.

Rescue of Arukumedez
With his new information, Clive weighed his options. It seemed like he still had time, so he could do a little bit more searching. The best bet he could do right now would be to go for the pawn shops, he thought, since those were the closest among the options. Besides, if somebody did take it, it would have been logical to dispose of it fast and exchange it for money.

Clive
Spoiler
Clive found the pawn shops easily. Looking at the windows, Arukumedez cannot be seen. But entering the largest shop, there are many things. A copper bell rings when the door is opened, and the shopkeeper comes from the back. He smiles to see Clive.
"Welcome to The All Shop. If there is something you need, it can be found here. Of course if you are in need of money, an arrangement can be made as well."
The man said. Politely with a cunning smile, it was asked "What can I do for you?"Kasanip's Sketchbook 2 Thread

Rescue of Arukumedez
"Yes, yes, and a good day to you too, my good man," he replied as he stepped towards the attendant. His tone was somewhat different; it was not his normal street talk, but rather more formal. "I am looking for something. Something...exciting. Something...fabulous. Something...unique," his face closed in on the man, his voice almost a whisper. "...to add to my vast collection of rarities." He then backed away a little then cotinued speaking. "I was told this was the place to visit for such requests. So, impress me."
"And don't bother judging me based on how I am dressed. Money is not an issue for someone like me." There was some sort of movement inside his cloak, and after a few seconds, a hand appeared, holding a leather pouch which he placed on the table, producing the unmistakable sound of coins jingling. And based on the pouch size, it was indeed a hefty sum.
"Now, what do you have for me?"

Wayfarer's Point, The Market
25th of Amber's Fall, 11:00
(The Rescue of Arukumedez)
Drallic follows Myst as they make their way towards the docks. The scene of a minotaur following a girl that isn't even half his size can come off quite humorous. It's a little more embarrassing for Drallic however. For him he wonders if anyone thought he is following Myst like a pet rather than a friend. Still he is glad to help Myst out. She seems to be a lot better than she was an hour ago.
Drallic walks to Myst's side as the two see Rayle coming. He gives a friendly smile, wave, and an honest, non-sarcastic tone the as treasure hunter comes within shouting range. "Ah, Rayle! Did you learn where Arukumedez is already? Your skills must indeed match your reputation." Drallic wants Myst to stay optimistic. Keeping everyone else's spirits up is a good way to try and help with that. At least in Drallic's mind.
SpoilerI notice it's another half hour since my last comfort roll. May I be able to make another one?

"Not quite that fast. Ba-gamu thinks some of the children from the orphanage might have taken a liking to Arukumedez. If they did, he'd be with them or at a pawn shop already, unless..." She rubs at her forehead. "...unless someone put them up to it. I can't think of who would want to do that to Bukiya, so unless you've got any ideas, we may want to hit the market again. Spoiler
The sound of the money makes the shopkeeper's smile become wide like a happy fox.
"Of course lord customer!" He said politely, and came to the side of Clive to lead him through the store.
"What kind of rarities do you collect?" The shopkeeper asks politely. "We have many. Jewels, plates, amulets and jewelry of silver and gold. We have boxes and mirrors..."
Such a shopkeeper continued to talk, to show the items in the store.
But so far, no Arukumedez is found.
(ooc: Clive probably needs to make an Intelligence roll, or to make an Artifact Knowledge roll.)
11:00Drallic and Rayle and Myst
Spoiler
Myst's reaction to see Rayle has failed is to look worried again.
"Orphans? Pawn shop?" Myst looks worried, and then the city bell rings for the time of 11:00. "It's already been an hour... Poor Arukumedez." Myst worries. She thinks about Rayle's comment and shakes her head.
"I don't know anyone who would want to hurt Bukiya like that. But it's Arukumedez who is in danger! If we search the markets and orphanage... We have to split up!" Mystletinn suggests. Of course, Rayle already has thought of this idea.

Re: Playground 4: SAN Overboard!

25th of Amber's Fall, 11:00
Rescue of Arukumedez
Clive pocketed the leather pouch and walked alongside the shop keep, eyeing the objects being presented to him, as well as some of the other items he could lay his eyes upon. He constantly looked for any sign of the owl, or, gods-forbid, parts of it that was obviously what one would go for - the two large sapphires it had for eyes.
When the man presented quite a number of items and not a sight of Arukumedez was seen, the Gunslinger cut in. "Hmm, yes, yes. Some of these indeed look quite valuable, but they are rather too common for my tastes. I am looking for something unique."
He paused, grabbing his chin with his right hand, as if recalling something. "Ahh, yes! I saw this peculiar object inside one of the inns I visited. Was that here at the Point? I am not sure. Nonetheless, it was something like an..." he tried to make out a shape with his hands, "...an owl, or a bird of some sort. And it had these huge sapphires for eyes! Ahh, it would look really fabulously, sitting beside my other stuffed animals!"
Clive looked as if he was imagining something pleasing. Focusing back towards the shop keep, he continued. "Well, do you have anything of that sort?"

Re: Playground 4: SAN Overboard!
Wayfarer's Point, The Market
25th of Amber's Fall, 11:00
(The Rescue of Arukumedez)
Drallic's face sags into a frown as Myst begins to worry about Arukumedez again. He didn't understand why someone would want to steal the owl if it's just to spite Myst and Non. Anyone who does that likely does not know the number of friends and allies Bukiya Inn has; it's a very grave error.
Drallic gently rubs Myst's hair with his hand as he does his best to force a smile on his face. "Come on Mysty. Didn't I tell you long ago to keep your head high in these situations? There's two leads and three of us. Arukumedez will be safe in your hands soon!" Behind that smile though hides an increasingly worried minotaur who is very easily moved by those he knows well. He hopes that his words at least perk up Myst a little.
After that, Drallic nods to Myst and says, "Right, I'm going to check out the markets." In his own mind, he didn't want to follow Myst around for the moment. His increasing worry can reach a fever pitch if he sees Myst fall into depression. The absolute last thing he wants to see is the Bukiya Inn suffering because of one idiotic fool who may have stolen something important out of petty spite. The minotaur looks at Rayle as he asks her, "Rayle, can you take Myst to the orphanage... Please?" The treasure hunter can tell that Drallic is rather uncomfortable with asking her something. His voice quivers and shakes in a subtle manner that can only be noticed by someone as skilled as Rayle.
Provided Myst and Rayle don't make him stop or ask him something, Drallic heads off to learn more at the markets. He's been there for a long time in his life so he knows his way around well... So long as there IS something there of interest.

"Rescue of Arukumedez"
11:05
Clive
Spoiler
Looking through the shop, it can be seen that there are no sapphires to look like Arukumedez's eyes. There are no feathers or other things of the owl statue.
But it is only by a perceptive look, that Clive notices the shopkeeper make a nervous and suspicious look at Clive. But it is hidden quickly, with a shopkeeper's always smiling expression.
"I'm sorry, I don't have any animals... With sapphires for eyes, it must be quite expensive! I'm afraid that none of my competitors would have such a thing also."
Clive notices a nervous twitch of the shopkeeper's leg.
"But if you are looking for stuffed birds, I think I may know someone who sell things like that. It's a merchant. I think he arrived recently to Wayfarer's Point, too."
(ooc: to move quickly this scene, to continue below, to assume that Clive continues to ask)
Spoiler
Asked about the merchant, the nervous shopkeeper finally surrenders.
"Ok, I apologize. I have heard about this sapphire bird, but you see... I didn't steal it! I didn't take it. Like all items in a pawn shop of Wayfarer's Point, our treasures come from adventurers or from pirates. So, perhaps it was stolen by pirates. I don't know.
But a messenger boy (one of the orphan children who are paid to carry messages around town) came early and wanted to store a bird statue here. Only for a little time. It is an arrangement I have with my merchant friend. But the boy came about half of the hour ago to take the bird. I didn't see if it had sapphire eyes.
But probably he is going to see my merchant friend at the dock. You can probably purchase it from him. But he may be departing soon. I didn't think he had business here this week."
If Clive asked the merchant's name, the shopkeeper says
"Ba=Gamu."
11:00
Drallic and Rayle and Myst
Spoiler
Myst looks surprised and endures a hair rub. Somehow the words of Drallic and his kindness today have touched her steel heart, and Myst nods hopefully, regaining some confidence.
"Thank you Drallic. Sorry, for Arukumedez, I have to do my best! I won't give up now." She says with a determined attitude.
"If Drallic is checking the markets, then let's hurry to the orphanage quickly." She suggests to Rayle.
11:15
Drallic in Market
Spoiler
More searching has shown such an owl statue cannot be found. It has become busier now too, with many merchants calling loudly and lots of people buying things. There are entertainers in the market too, and a few orphan children who are watching.
There are smells of delicious foods, but right now there is no time for eating. Where is Arukumedez? If someone stole the statue, where would it be?
Suddenly however, a familiar voice can be heard behind Drallic.
"Oh my! Drallic, it's nice to see you!" Of course such a voice at this kind of poor timing, but a voice of calm and carefree concern, it is Non. She is holding a basket that has clothes and food in it, and isn't wearing the Bukiya Inn uniform right now.
"I met Clive earlier too! It's a nice day with coincidences in the market." She says with a charming smile. "I finished shopping, and even bought a new dress for Myst. I'm sure she will be excited. I can't wait to go show her. What are you doing here Drallic? Did you close your store today already?"
Of course most business of fish is early in morning.
"If you have free time, would you like to come to Bukiya Inn for lunch?" She points at the basket. "I have some spices that Myst wanted to make some special curry dish."
What a poor timing! Can Non be avoided without suspicion?
Rayle and Myst at Orphanage
Spoiler
The orphanage is a busy place. There are many children, but the nuns who watch them also have unlimited patience. Most of the young children are excited to see guests, and even Myst doesn't look so surprised to be pulled by children.
"Non has helped the orphanage before." Myst explained when they were walking. "Sometimes if we have lots of food remaining, she will bring it here for the children. I don't think it is a younger child who would kidnap Arukumedez." Myst says doubtfully.
Asking the nun, the saint-like lady shook her head.
"I'm sorry, I haven't seen an owl statue. I don't think any of the children have brought one here. But some of the older ones will run messages and carry items for people. I hope none of them have done something terrible!" She calls to some of the children.
"Have any of you seen an owl with blue eyes?"
One little boy of 5 years raised his hands.
"Yes! Big brother Yuma was carrying it."
The nun exchanged a worried look.
The look on Myst's expression struggles between a dangerous cold expression and a worried and panicked look.
"Where was he going?" She asked.
"To the docks." The little boy replied without care.

Re: Playground 4: SAN Overboard!
Wayfarer's Point, The Marketplace
25th of Amber's Fall, 11:05
Rescue of Arukumedez
Despite the bad news, Clive cannot help but smile inwardly at the guilt shown by the shop keep. "No need to fret, my good man. I have to admit, some of the items in my collection were appropriated through, well, not so legitimate means. But we don't have to dwell on that, do we? Let us just keep this as a little secret between fellow business men," he said with a wink.
After having said what he needed to say and asked the details about this Ba=gamu character, he left the shop and made haste for the docks. He knew he had no time to waste. There must be a reason the owl was moved earlier. Perhaps someone had shown interest in buying it, or someone had already payed for it, and will be getting his merchandise soon. Either way he had to be there before anything happened.
Nearing the docks, he slowed down and composed himself. He would try what he did earlier with the shop keep, pose as a buyer. The promise of money always made things happen easier. Asking around for directions, he finally found the merchant called Ba=gamu.
"Good day, sir. Are you the one they call Ba=gamu? I have heard you are the person to contact when someone is looking for unique things. Well, I am such person, and...well, I'm in a bit of a hurry. My ship is leaving soon, but I sneaked out to see you because I thought you might just be the person I'm looking." His talking was a bit hurried to reflect his pretense of urgency.
"You see, I'm a collector. And right now, the thing that interests me are stuffed animals. But of course, not just ordinary stuffed animals. Those with unique designs and excellent craftsmanship are what I am talking about. You wouldn't happen to have anything of that sort, would you? Or if you have some contacts? I can pay any price you ask," he said while taking something inside his cloak and presenting a leather pouch, jingling it to produce the familiar sound of coins being shaken.Last edited by GuyFawkes; 2012-08-19 at 02:35 PM.

Re: Playground 4: SAN Overboard!
Wayfarer's Point, The Market
25th of Amber's Fall, 11:15
(The Rescue of Arukumedez)
As it turns out, searching on his own didn't ease Drallic much. He isn't too worried that Myst is with Rayle but he wishes Clive or Jonathan is with her instead. Since Drallic isn't following Myst, he can't tell how she is doing. Even if she is better than when he first saw her this morning, the minotaur still gets the sinking feeling that Myst is emotionally frail until they get Arukumedez back... That's if they can get him back at all.
Before anything else could come to Drallic's mind he ends up hearing and then seeing Non from behind him. "Ah, Non!" He forces a smile as he turns around to the innkeeper. "Didn't know you were out shoppin'." Timing is definitely not good but it's better than Non already being at the inn and realizing Arukumedez is gone. It's also a good idea to keep her from heading back. Drallic couldn't lie to Non; he can't bluff worth his life and prefers being a truthful guy anyway.
He holds up his kind and boisterous voice as well as he can. "Business is slower than usual today so I thought a day off couldn't hurt. Pity too, I got a pretty nice collection from the mornin' swim. You'd like a look at it?" Bringing Non to his stall and showing what he has for sale will be a good way to keep her attention and time, even if he already has given her the supply of fish she and Myst needed only yesterday. All Drallic can really hope right now is that Rayle and possibly Clive find the owl soon.Last edited by Starsign; 2012-08-19 at 02:30 PM.

Rayle wastes no time leading the group back to Ba-gamu. There's little doubt in her mind that the orc would lie to her, but that he'd also abscond with the owl meant that he had more courage than she thought. Glad I didn't give him much of anything useful in return. Lucien would never let the orc into his library, after all...Amazing Zealot avatar by Elder Tsofu.

Drallic
Spoiler
"I would be happy to, but you know Drallic, we just bought a supply yesterday! So I'm afraid I don't have space to buy more today." She said with an apology.
She follows Drallic to his stall, but while Non is admiring different fish with polite compliments, Drallic sees Rayle and Myst in the crowd in the busy market, hurrying towards the dock. It looks urgent, probably they must be going after Arukumedez now.
With Non at the stand, it's possible Drallic could persuade her to guard it for a little while. Or to ask her to come too. Somehow, and quickly, he must find a solution. Or, to rely on Rayle and Myst to solve the problem alone.
Clive
Spoiler
The 'merchant' called Ba=gamu is a dangerous looking Orc. He is overseeing the last loading of his ship, the rest of the orc crew looks suspiciously at Clive, but Ba=gamu tells them to finish work.
Good day. I am Ba=gamu. And I am a master of finding unique things." He looks proudly and confident with crossed arms. But as Clive explains, first Ba=gamu looks politely, then to become more dour. Then he looks around and then frowns at Clive.
"Stuffed animals?" He laughs loudly to the sky.
"I don't sell stuffed animals. But if you are in desire of artifact statues, many of which may be animal statues, then I can maybe help you." Somehow it is a condescending speech, like to explain to a child. "I am also preparing to leave. But, I work on commission. Tell me what old or current civilization or art style you would like. But I am an S class adventurer. I'm not such a cheap merchant." He said with an ugly smile.
At this time however, Ba=gamu turns to look at someone approaching. And then says darkly.
"Rayle." Turning, Clive can see Rayle and Myst have approached.
"Where's Arukumedez?" Myst asks worriedly.
Rayle
Spoiler
Myst gasps for breath, following behind Rayle quickly. Somehow Rayle and Myst make their way through the busy market and to the dock.
Even the docks are crowded now, with ships in port. Many sailors and pirates also walk around, but are ignored. Rayle goes straight for the ship of Ba=gamu, and fortunately it is here.
The orc is talking to someone - it's Clive. But when Ba=gamu sees Rayle, his expression becomes dark again. He crosses his large arms.
"Rayle." He says darkly.
"Where's Arukumedez?" Myst asks worriedly.
The other orcs on the ship watch with interest.

Re: Playground 4: SAN Overboard!
Wayfarer's Point, The Market
25th of Amber's Fall, 11:15
(The Rescue of Arukumedez)
"That's a good question." Rayle considers how best to approach this. "I think... there's been a terrible misunderstanding."
That much was borderline sarcasm, but Elaine's First Rule of Treasure Hunting was that you should always leave enough room in a conversation for the other party to back down. Just accusing Ba-gamu of stealing, right there to his face and in front of everyone, would force a nasty confrontation that could easily end with a bunch of people getting killed. Granted, she was surrounded by minotaurs and adventurers who could probably handle themselves, but a bunch of semilegitimate enterprising non-citizens turning the docks into a bloodbath - over an autonomous owl statue - was bound to catch the attention of even the most jaded member of what passed for a peacekeeping force in Wayfarer's Point.
"You may very well have been sold a bit of property taken from the Bukiya Inn. A certain owl statue that... well, we've had this conversation already, although you left out the part where the statue was in your possession." Rayle shrugs. "An oversight, I'm sure. Now this is, of course, not your fault, but the best thing to do would be to return it to its rightful owner - the Guild would frown on adventurers absconding with the property of other adventurers. We'll pay you a small finder's fee for the return, of course, although not the full market price because everyone knows the great S-class Adventurer Ba-gamu wouldn't try to make a profit on something as tragic as the theft of a precious heirloom." She bounces up onto the boarding plank. "How about it?"
Rayle waits for the Orc's response, hoping that neither Myst nor the stranger talking to the big Hunter does anything rash.Amazing Zealot avatar by Elder Tsofu.

Re: Playground 4: SAN Overboard!
Wayfarer's Point, The Market
25th of Amber's Fall, 11:20
(The Rescue of Arukumedez)
At first Drallic is a little concerned with chatting with Non while keeping her from knowing about Arukumedez. With things left in Myst and Rayle's hands, Drallic can't do much else but put his faith in them. However he eases up in short time. He finds that it's easy to get his mind off things when talking with someone else and Non is there for that. Walking to the stall, they talked about the subjects of fish, Wayfarer's Point, the state of the market, and ideas of going back out to sea again one day. For a time, Drallic felt at ease like he does when he's out catching fish before dawn.
When they arrive to Drallic's stall, he catches notice of Myst and Rayle going not to the orphanage, but to the docks. That definitely isn't what the minotaur expected. He isn't sure whether they actually had been to the orphanage or if there was a change in plans along the way. It didn't really matter why; Drallic wants to follow them. Having Non however means he'll need to keep her from following him. What would he tell her though without lying or using intimidation?
Drallic waits for a convenient moment in the conversation to change topics as he makes sure his supply of fish is still there. He makes a quiet "Hmm," and then looks to Non with a smile. "Looks like these fish might still be fresh by tomorrow. Non if you don't mind I'm goin' to head down to the docks to catch a few more for tomorrow. Can you watch over the stall for 15 minutes please?" If Non agrees, Drallic hurries off to the docks to see what Rayle and Myst are doing.Last edited by Starsign; 2012-08-24 at 03:20 PM.

Rescue of Arukumedez
Clive could only sigh as the familiar sight of Myst and another character came into view. When she asked the orc directly about Arukumedez, it could only spell trouble for his current cover. The only salvation in this was that Myst had not called out to him and let out that they knew each other. Yet.
Damn, bad timing. Oh well...

Re: Playground 4: SAN Overboard!
25th of Amber's Fall, Morning
"Rescue of Arukumedez"
11:20
Drallic and Non at the Market
Non blinks, a rare expression of surprise at the request of Drallic. But soon it is the normal and carefree warm smile of Non with closed eyes.
"Of course! Come back safely!" She says. As Drallic hurries away, Non thinks for a second.
Oh, he didn't take his fishing rod! Oh my, I wonder how Drallic will catch the fish... Maybe he has the equipment with his boat. But can you really catch fish in 15 minutes? She turns and claps her hands with a large smile and advertises loudly.
"Drallic's fish are fresh and the best! All customers welcome!" To have such a legendary drawing card as Non, soon there are many customers to buy very many of Drallic's fish.
Drallic, Rayle, Clive, Myst at the Docks
For Drallic, to hurry to the docks, no one tries to stop him. Maybe this is a charm point of a minotaur. From a high view, Myst and Rayle can be seen to hurry in the crowd, but then Rayle is to stop at a certain ship with orcs as a crew.
A familiar Clive can be seen talking to the captain, but the situation looks awkward.
Drallic arrives to hear the end of Rayle's speech.
For now, Ba=gamu ignores Clive's demands and is focused on Rayle. But Clive can use such an opportunity to notice that the orcs on the ship are watching with interest at this gathering.
But Ba=gamu turns to them and shouts in orc language. Some of them grumble and return to work.
For an experienced adventurer, it looks like they will soon be leaving.
Ba=gamu looks at Myst and then at Rayle.
"Civilized... Yes, I like that idea. But you know Rayle, you should know well that property, especially artifacts, are always changing hands.
I've heard many rumors that suggest even you have.... stolen things." His smile is hard and ugly.
"Here's my deal." He looks at Clive with a smile too and rubs his hands together. "I have a rare Ueatari Empire statue. If it is real, then it is worth a fortune with a real collector. An orc collector. And you know that Ueatari is now Zugunda, an orc province. So, this artifact is really not human property.
Myst cannot stop now, and has shaking fists as she interrupts angrily.
"Arukumedez is not anyone's property! He is free to do whatever he wants! Let him go!"
Ba=gamu laughs at Myst and the other orcs on the ship laugh too.
Ridiculous! a statue, an artifact that is not property? Be quiet, child. Don't try to tell an orc about property! Even Rayle will agree with me on this! Isn't that so?
He looks at Rayle with arms crossed.
When Drallic appears behind Rayle, Ba=gamu makes a scowl, to look at the minotaur. But he doesn't seem intimidated. To return to look at Rayle.
Now, you know the value of these things, Rayle. I am busy, and will be leaving Wayfarer's Point in five minutes. If you can pay a percent finder's fee, then of course we can make a deal." With an ugly grin, of course he means a percent fee of the artifact's value.
How much is this owl's value? He looks at Myst. Myst glares angrily.
"Arukumedez is priceless! How can you sell him! He isn't a slave!" She protests.
"Priceless? That sounds like [very valuable]. My finder's fee is 1,000 gold." He looks at Rayle with a hungry look.
Rayle
Spoiler
Of course an artifact hunter like Rayle knows the collapsed Eastern Kingdom of Ueatari has been gone for over two hundred years. In that kingdom the owl was a sacred and royal symbol and often coins or artifact of that place had such a design. But if Arukumedez is such a statue, it is more valuable than Non and Myst probably know.
The reason for collapse of this kingdom is that the orcs conquered this kingdom with their empire and it became a province.
Probably Non has some legends or stories about Ueatari too. Does Non know the true value of this statue (if it is real)? Always with a content smile as a mask, it is difficult to know.
But Myst seems to value the statue for different reasons.
<If your knowledge of artifact is rolled, maybe some more information can be received later>
Of course it isn't too useful in this situation now.
Persuading maybe will work, but to require a strong roll of charisma.
But it doesn't look like Myst will wait much longer. She is rather upset. But Rayle has known Non and Myst for some time. Non's reputation is quite famous as an adventurer, and so Myst probably has fought. Though, to be an innkeeper for four years, probably she is out of practice.
Standing on the boarding plank, Ba=gamu has not reacted to this move, being an experienced adventurer. But the orcs on the ship are watching closely. Of course if Rayle tries to without permission enter the ship, it will be trouble. That is the natural rules.
His finder's fee is of course an unbelievable amount. what does he really want? Of course to know Ba=gamu, it must be about greed in some way.
Clive
Spoiler
Myst is looking very upset. Hopefully she doesn't try something dangerous.
Though Clive doesn't know Ba=gamu very much, because Clive is mostly being ignored, to be able to see the situation very clearly.
Somehow, the orcs have prepared for leaving. But the attitude of them seems to be confident and prepared.
Somehow, they were expecting something like this maybe.
Is the real target Arukumedez, or someone? Rayle? Myst?
Probably not Drallic.
To be ignored right now, it is a chance for Clive to act freely.
Drallic
Spoiler
Myst looks very upset. Thankfully, Drallic calmed her earlier, or maybe she would have done something hastily already.
But this Ba=gamu has admitted to having Arukumedez, so to know Non and Myst, probably Myst will not wait forever and try to act. Non would be that kind of good spirited influence. Maybe bringing Non would have been good to help Myst. But then a promise to Myst would have been broken.
But it has been four years since she was adventuring with Non, and even Drallic hasn't seen her fight. Probably it wouldn't go well now.
The orcs looks dangerous, but also to be waiting for something. Of course some are watching Drallic. And all of them have swords. Around 10 orcs can be seen on the ship. And Rayle is to stand dangerously on the boarding plank.
Of course the amount of gold is unbelievable. Probably Ba=gamu is provoking a reaction for some reason. Or maybe his meaning is [let's make a barter]. Drallic as a shopkeeper of course can understand a little of that style.

Re: Playground 4: SAN Overboard!
Wayfarer's Point, The Market
25th of Amber's Fall, 11:20
(The Rescue of Arukumedez)
Very glad to see that he made it on time, Drallic takes a quick look around while listening to what's going on. By the sounds of it, the orc here has Arukumedez and is not going to easily give it up. Apparently he knows Rayle too; they must be in similar professions. Asking a good 1,000 golf is an absurd amount. It'd might be payable if Drallic was still a mercenary but that is not the case. It's not usually smart for someone such as a minotaur to step into such a delicate situation, but Drallic is willing to do so for Myst's sake.
"Excuse me!" Drallic calls out to the orc in a diligent and professional manner rather than a more boisterous and rude tone. "As a merchant, I understand the ways of barterin' and value that you refer to Ba=gamu... But I also know that one can't even suggest a deal with an item they only say they have." Drallic walks slowly up and to Rayle's side, very close to the boarding plant. He looks down to the orc with strong, menacing eyes. The minotaur's voice deepens. "You say you have a rare Ueatari Empire statue, but can you prove it? You can't simply say it as an excuse to get out of a conversation. You want to barter? Show us what exactly you are barterin'." He pauses, a bit of a smirk comes on his face, and then continues talking.
"By the way, about what the girl says about Arukumedez not being anyone's property. Let's just say this Arukumedez is a little more than an artifact." His eyes narrow, clearly trying to shake down Ba=gamu. "You know taking a person isn't so much makin' something your property as it forcing someone as a slave. I'd rather not that be the assumption here but this girl here knows Arukumedez as a person. Now come on, let's see this statue." This is of course a massive risk but at this point it's a complete do-or-die time maneuver. All Drallic believes he needs to do is show that Arukumedez is more than an artifact and the owl is back safe with Myst. If needed, hopefully Rayle and Clive can help pick up and assist this plan.
SpoilerDrallic is making an intimidation on the orc, shall I make a roll using his Intimidation Advantage? (and possibly his strength as I think it can work for visual intimidation) or might that not be needed?Last edited by Starsign; 2012-08-27 at 09:18 PM.

Re: Playground 4: SAN Overboard!
Wayfarer's Point, The Docks
25th of Amber's Fall, 11:20
Rescue of Arukumedez
Clive, being ignored a whole lot in the ensuing conversation, found time to observe the nuances of the orc and the rest of his crew onboard. Somehow, he could feel the odd confidence of the orc as off putting, like he had expected this all beforehand.
Not good. What is this?
...maybe they're not after the owl itself?
Huh? Then what?
...
Stupid gun. At least say something helpful for once!
...the girl. Maybe they are after her.
Who? Rayle? Wait. No, Myst? Why would they go after Myst?
...just be on guard.
The gunslinger still couldn't find the meaning in Peacemaker's words, but oddly he felt some ring of truth in them. It looks like things would only turn south the longer this drags out. Best settle this the easiest way possible, then.
With money.
A thousand gold was way too expensive for him. Luckily he just got his pay, and so he was confident enough to call the bluff for this. He just hoped this would all work out. If not, well the other guy would have to do all the dirty work again. He placed himself behind Ba=gamu and facing the others, then signaled and mouthed to Drallic to calm down and that he has something planned already. He then turned to face the orc and began his little show.
"Ueatari, you say?" His face lit up like a child seeing a toy for his birthday present. He then composed himself, threw a sideways glance at Myst and the others, before returning to the orc.
"All right, all right, I'll be leaving soon anyway. Well, I showed you I could pay that thousand gold earlier. Now, show it to me. I don't want to be caught in whatever mess you are in when it all blows up on you!"

Re: Playground 4: SAN Overboard!
25th of Amber's Fall, Morning
"Rescue of Arukumedez"
11:25
Before Rayle can act, Ba=gamu is interrupted by Drallic, and turns to glare upwards at the face of the minotaur fisherman.
With the fierce look like auras to fight between these two, the orcs on the ship move uncomfortably, holding their weapons now, but do not dare to make a move. Maybe they are afraid of both Drallic and Ba=gamu?
But Ba=gamu isn't afraid of Drallic. He does note how close Rayle and Drallic are to the ship, but doesn't move to let them up.
In such a tension however, it seems Clive appears behind Ba=gamu, on the boarding ramp. Ba=gamu turns in surprise, and two of the orcs step to the top of the ramp. So it is such a [surround]:
Spoiler

[1]Drallic
[2]Rayle
[3]Ba=gamu

---- Boarding ramp
Ba=gamu concedes contemptibly.
"Show it!" He orders. One of the orcs opens a crate on the ship, and a certain, familiar and noble owl statue named by Myst Arukumedez"is revealed., to be held to show the others.
Looking at Myst's reaction, it is surely the real owl statue.
Myst's expression is horror and then an inhuman expression. Strangely a breeze can be felt around her too.
"Let Him Go!" She shouts.
Ba=gamu ignores Myst, and looks warily at Clive and Drallic and Rayle. "Pay now." He says. It is obvious he is focus on other things, not to think about Clive's money.
Some more orcs come from in the ship, so there are 10.
Rayle
Spoiler
Ba=gamu is a prideful type, so in this situation probably he will not be easily convinced.
Of course probably he would like to collect the bounty on Rayle too with an excuse. He seems confident, either he has a plan, or
And Myst is very unhappy. Though you know some stories about Non's adventuring days, mostly to have heard from adventuring guild members or read in adventuring stories. Non always has been humble about such things. But such stories don't really mention Myst. But to know Myst from Bukiya, she doesn't seem like a fighter so much.
Rayle probably realizes then, the stance of Myst is to prepare to do something carelessly.
And then, it makes sense. S class guild members, like was said by Rayle, would be judged sternly to attack other guild members. But if such a fight is started by Myst or Drallic or Clive, then of course Ba=gamu can defend himself as [self-defense].
Maybe even this trap is to get revenge on Rayle in some way? But maybe it is a paranoid thought too.
Ba=gamu is a good fighter, however. However, to judge by the past, not as good as Rayle. But to fight on such a boarding ramp, it would be very dangerous for Drallic to interfere. Of course 10 orcs also are there.
Is Clive known by Rayle?
Somehow, this man seems confident like to have a plan.
Drallic
Spoiler
Ba=gamu seems to be confident. Of course to not desire to fight Drallic, but Rayle did say he was [S class] of the guild. So, he must be skilled. To think, Non had such a rating too, but she always laughed humbly about such a thing. Rayle probably has such a rating. What is the motive of Ba=gamu?
Standing on the boarding ramp, if there is a fight, to make a charge to Ba=gamu is an option. Of course it could be said a [minotaur special ability]. But probably Ba=gamu knows this too.
Probably his crew is experienced too, so if Clive tries to fight against 10, it will be dangerous.
Clive seems to have a plan maybe? But it doesn't look like Myst will wait anymore, now that she has seen the beloved owl. At this time, Drallic probably remembers the trait of Myst, that is [can't swim].
Clive
Spoiler
Hopefully the plan of Clive works! To finish to the top of the boarding ramp, there are 10 orcs to stand on the ship. Knowing about ship sizes, probably this is all of the crew. The orc with the owl statue is in the middle of this group by the edge.
Of course position of Clive stops easy retreat from Ba=gamu. Even the boarding ramp could be pushed or shot, to seperate Ba=gamu from ship and leave with Drallic and Rayle. Of course, that leaves 10 orcs for Clive to fight together.
However, Rayle did say Ba=gamu was [S class] of the guild. So, he must be skilled. To think, Non had such a rating too, but she always laughed humbly about such a thing. Did Myst have such a rating?
Clive knowing Myst well, it can't be imagined that sort of fighting style of Myst. She does look very angry though, probably to carelessly try something soon.
Ba=gamu is waiting for 1000 gold. His patience probably isn't very high. But he seems confident too.

Wayfarer's Point, The Docks

Rescue of Arukumedez
Clive's head turned sharply towards the direction of the shouting Myst. He had never heard her shout before, even at times when he crossed the line with his jests. But seeing Arukumedez up there, and this Ba=gamu acted like it was his property in the first place, he could understand. And he didn't like seeing Myst agitated.
Ah, you know, sometimes it's just so much easier not to care about the rules and just go all out.
...typical.
What? It's not like I do that when it's not needed. And besides, I can't do that here. Not in front of all these people. Not in front of them.
...
He looked at Myst again, hoping to catch her eye and signal her to calm down, but those pair of sapphire orbs now glowered and were like daggers directed only on the orc. It was then that he noticed some sort of breeze coming from her direction, which was weird since the wind usually blows from the sea at that time of day. But he shrugged it off; he had more pressing matters at hand.
"Ahh! It looks exquisite! Look at those eyes! Just perfect!" he exclaimed in feign interest. Clive again rummaged within his cloak. "Here is your money. There's a little over a thousand in there," he thrust out and held the previous leather pouch in front of him. "Now give me the artifact. I need to leave now!"

Re: Playground 4: SAN Overboard!
Wayfarer's Point, The Market
25th of Amber's Fall, 11:25
(The Rescue of Arukumedez)
Drallic tries to maintain a calm posture as he hopes Clive or Rayle have some sort of plan to get Arukimedez back without needing to use force. Myst if very much set on doing whatever it takes and if she goes there, she could get badly hurt at best. Drallic didn't really have a plan at this point as he plants his hand in his face when he sees Clive giving what probably is NOT a thousand gold. If the orcs fall for this, Drallic will be utterly speechless.
But he isn't expecting Clive's plan to work. Instead he's thinking of what he can do. If Ba=gamu declines Clive's gold, Drallic will need to barter with more than just valuable gold and artifacts. With the orc on the boarding platform, Drallic can go to charge the orc, grab him, and force him into the water where Drallic can easily and potentially drown Ba=gamu if the others don't release Arukumedez. And in the case Ba=gamu leaves the boarding platform to take a look at Clive's pouch, Drallic will immediately go to break the boarding platform. Either way, Drallic plans to use Ba=gamu as the bartering chip to trade for Arukumedez if Clive or Rayle can't think of anything else. The minotaur will really hate doing this as he doesn't like going from push to shove when it can be avoided. Sometimes however one needs to do a bit of dirty work and that is something a former mercenary like Drallic understands well.

Re: Playground 4: SAN Overboard!
25th of Amber's Fall, Morning
"Rescue of Arukumedez"
11:30
Ba=gamu takes the leather bag from Clive, and frowns. He maintains a frown as he begins to count the coins and doing the math. It is a high tension moment for everyone, except for maybe Clive who has his confident expression.
Ba=gamu's frown becomes a disbelief expression, and then a strange look of happiness and disappointment.
He nods stiffly. I didn't believe it, but this is 1000g. Very well, it's a sale. Enjoy your artifact! He says. It is a condescend politeness, but to have heard from the orc about his thoughts, it's not a surprise. Probably he doesn't have many human customers. With a gesture command, the orc holding Arukumedez begins to move to bring the statue to Clive.
But as it is handed over, the statue moves and suddenly makes a loud sound
"HOOT HOOT" and begins to flap wings. The orc is surprised, and drops the statue, towards the water falling.
"Arukumedez!" Myst calls out, a hopeful and relief expression, and she holds her arms out as the owl statue with sapphire eyes flies to her and she hugs it fiercely. It continues to make owl sounds, while Myst starts to cry and falls to her knees hugging it.
"It's ok, Arukumedez! You're safe now."
Ba=gamu has the priceless expression on the face, being speechless and open mouth. But retreating, to stand on the ship and kick the boarding ramp. Suddenly Clive and Drallic are falling into the water by the dock, and as Ba=gamu's ship begins to set sail, Ba=gamu points at Rayle.
This isn't over! Next time, Rayle! He calls out.
That Arukumedez actually can move and fly, and is like a real owl except for these eyes, surely no one expected except for Myst, who always believed.
"Arukumedez is the best owl gargoyle." Myst compliments the owl, as it calms down and returns to a statue-like condition. Myst of course holds him protectively and happily in her arms and looks to Drallic, Clive and Rayle, and bows.
"Thank you very much for helping save Arukumedez."
Of course at this time, Arukumedez makes owl cry appreciatively.
"Arukumedez says 'thank you,' too." Myst translates.
Myst also hugs Drallic and Clive with great appreciation for their help.
"I-I'll make everyone lunch and dinner at the Inn, so let's go there! I hope I can return Arukumedez before Non realizes we are missing..."
Of course, when Drallic returns to the market, Non seems her normal self, to have assumed a cheerful role to advertise the fish stand genius-ly. When she sees Drallic, she makes a content smile.
"Welcome back! I'm sorry, it seems you are sold out now. But it was a good profit! I really must return to the Bukiya Inn now. Poor Myst is probably worried."

Re: Playground 4: SAN Overboard!
Dark screams fall upon the frightened ears of memory. Fractured images of days long since passed. Old pains once more alive as chains dig into flesh and the smell of the dying rises up through the Tower of Tirac.
Spoiler"Don't bother feeding that 'un, tainted like him's only use is rat food. Sides, they don't pay us enough to waste good rations on dead men." The guard chuckled slightly as a joke occured to him. "He's just rat-shuns. Geddit? Rations for the rats. Ha!
The newer guard, eager to laugh at anything to distract him from the stench of the screams laughed as well. "Rat-shuns. That's clever.
Barely more than a whisper left the lips of the creature in chains. "Help. Me."
"Oi, you say something Rat-shuns."
"Help. Me. Please. Water.. just.. water." The boy spoke out, emboldened by the response.
"Your ears don't work so good Rat-shuns. You get nothin until the day you drop. Stick around long enough and they'll cutt your head off nice and easy."
With surprising agility a claw like hand shot out and grabbed the guard by his beard. "Help me." Commanded the mage.
Slam. Jonathan's eyes snapped open to rude reality as he was sent crashing from his hammock on to the floor of the ship by the tilt of the vessel
"Oi! Spellboy. The damned winds is going haywire. Fix em or we're throwing your ass overboard and see if that appeases 'em."
"Sorry sorry." Jonathan exclaimed as he staggered to his feet with rather less grace than he'd hoped for. "Just give me a minu- yes yes I see your rather impressive gun. Alright I'm moving."
The Dirty Hangman
Above deck chaos reigned as the ship threatened time and time again to toss every one overboard. To his left he could see Clive opening his mouth probably with the intent of finding some humor in the situation. Unfortunately before he could speak Jonathan cut in. Only the sound he made was silence. Or at least that was how it seemed. As he continued the air began to shake with force until the ship managed to right itself.
""What in the name of me grannies green grave was that mr. Hearth? I hired you so the winds might give us an edge not knock me ship down to the deepspawn."
"That." Jonathan said, leaning against a barrel in a way he hoped failed to convey the sheer exhaustion of turning back the gale. "Was not me. Or rather, it was my spell, but I wasn't the one in charge anymore."
""Well Johnny, if it ain't you, who was it?"" Drallic asked with what one could assume was the minotaur's expression for curiosity. "Can't really imagine someone takin' over your magic."
The Plunderer's Folly
Farlin's eyes caught the light as his lips turned upwards in an amused smile.
"Only a few hours before arrival, mr. Stroum. Please inform the Captain." The strange elf said eyes straight ahead. "The Esmerelda draws near."
The Dirty Hangman, Boarding
In the last rays of sun the lookout had spotted the Esmerelda. By the time they had reached it only hints of violet remained in the quickly gathering congregation of stars in the night sky. "It's as if the damn ships been trying to avoid me." Tomin White growled.
"That's impossible." Clive adds in. "Who'd avoid such a lovely lady as yourself?"
"The men she helped fire cannons at I'd guess. There have to be some men still alive aboard, if not most." Jonathan interrupts.
Tomin shook her head. "Rudder's shot straight through. It'd take a miracle to point this boat in any direction she doesn't want to go. Sides, while they might not be too keen on raiders I'd be happy enough to accept any way off this floating grave, especially when the cargo's not mine to boot."
"All this talking is moving very little treasure onto my ship." Keeler growls.
"Agreed. Pick five good men and I'll see to it we load the best they got onto the ship. Make sure they're properly armed, we wouldn't want any trouble after all."
"Hold on there now. I didn't come all this way just to stay on the ship. I'm coming too."
"Count me in as well. I didn't come here to watch Gunner blow himself up after all."
"Alright I'll bring on the lot of ya. You two stay with me, Tomin you take the rest in the next boat."
A few awkward moments passed as everyone's eyes fell on Jonathan.
"Well don't look at me, I've got a bad feeling about that wreck."
With the rowboats set down into the water the raiding party begins to make it's way down the ladder.
"Have fun scouting things out out there. Holler if the Crew's too starved to murder you all. Scream if they're hungry enough to eat you."
Clive grins as he stands beside the Red Wizard. "You know I haven't heard the tales of any legends that sat back and let others find what perils lay in store."
Jonathan nods sagely. "That's because the scouts got killed and the Legend get's to tell the story as he sees fit."
"And where's the fun in that?" Clive laughs as he slaps Jonathan on the back. Or at least that's what Jonathan expected. In truth it was more of a shove. Gasping for breath the Red Wizard fell straight into the open arms of Drallic.
""Great to have you aboard again Johnny."" The Minotaur says grinning.
"Couldn't be happier." The Red Wizard wheezed.
Some time later, as the two rowboats drift alongside the Esmerelda, a rope ladder comes falling down the side of the ship as one of the Raiders gives the all clear sign for the others to follow. A second ladder has to be tossed down to support Drallic, but eventually everyone makes their way on to the deck.
"No one's home." Tomin muttered suspiciously.
"I wouldn't count on it." Jonathan says as he snaps his fingers and creates a ball of fire in his hands to illuminate the deck. Without the immediate threat of attack the Captain and his crew light their torches as well.
The Deck of The Esmerelda is in disarray. Broken wood, shattered crates, and free hanging sails still loose where the Barnacle's raiding party hacked at the ropes. A raiding party that was then abandoned to the enemy when the Barnacle made it's retreat. The Captain's Quarters lie to the far side of the ship, sealed shut. The Wheel above spinning wildly in the wind Nearby, a hatch to the deck below lies wide open. Torn off it's hinges in fact. But there is little time to inspect it, for out of the corner of eyes struggling with the dark something is moving.

Re: Playground 4: SAN Overboard!
Slowly Captain Keeler beckons the rest to move forward. The strange raiding party makes little sound as they walk in odd procession towards the empty hatch. Without warning Jon whips around, staring suspiciously at where they came in.
"Thought I saw something." He mutters as an apology.Avatar Credit: the very talented PseudoStraw. Full image:Spoiler

The Dirty Hangman/Esmerelda
26th of Amber's Fall
Drallic
Being on a ship such as this brings many memories back for Drallic. Ever since ended up at Wayfarer's Point he rarely finds himself on a big ship. Usually if he's at sea, he's either swimming or on his fishing boat. Here he feels like he's a mercenary again recruited by someone to head to an uncharted area of the high seas. That exact kind of task is something the minotaur has gone on quite a few times ago. The difference here is that he's doing this on a favor of a friend... A friend who he's done a lot of favors for already. Even if Clive dragged him to this situation, Drallic is glad to have come. He can't remember the last time him and Jonathan managed to get out exploring together and it's always fun for the minotaur to go on the high seas. Besides, what land-living creature can swim as well as Drallic?
On the deck of the Esmerelda, Drallic shakes his head slowly at the utter mess of it. "Whatever happened here did not care for tidiness," he says boringly to himself as if this is a sight he's seen before. It's not common for him back in his mercenary days to see a ship look as bad and empty as this. This case of course is different though due to the circumstances surrounding the ship.
As he takes a step forward, he hears Jonathan mention that he saw someone. The minotaur's eyes narrow as he also gets the feeling that they aren't alone. "I'll take a look," Drallic quietly says to the others as he takes point to have a look around. If there IS a stowaway or two here, he didn't want to make much noise. Something like a gunshot could attract the sounds of sea monsters a mile away.Last edited by Starsign; 2012-09-15 at 11:16 PM.
