Maia reaches her left hand out, fingers crooked at impossible angles, and whispers a foul, hissing word. A beam of sickly gray and red lances out at the nearest demon.

Bellame bounds over to Grym, Bruce right behind, as the Demons begin to move forward again.

They reach Erin and lash out with claws as Maia hurls her ray at one of the demons, the Demon shudders and ripples as its body seems to shrivel before your eyes, but not before its claw tears into Erin.

*The swinging oil lanterns above Rok bounce on their hooks, causing the light in the infirmary to jerk and sway erratically. As he lay on his back, Rok could feel the motion of the ship, causing his stomach to lurch up into his throat, rousing him from the shadowy nightmares that had enveloped him, bringing a thck, tar-filled bile up and out of his mouth.*

*Lurching to the side, he rolls off the bed he'd been laid upon, emptying the contents of his stomach into a bucket on the floor, his mind starting to clear as the rancid, curdled substance is ejected. Pushing himself up to a standing position, Rok blinks hard and pushes the small healer away as he moves to support the huge man, his voice still thick and unintelligeable.*

*As the sound of shouting reaches his ears, forces his body to move, stumbling awkwardly out of the hold and above decks, a spear in one hand, the blade cutting deep into the deck as uses it for a brace before he grasps the railing of the ship. As he hangs on, the ship lurches downward a second time, Rok looks over the edge at the group gathered below, the roars of the creature carrying even over the wind.*

"Capn? Capn, who.... 'Rin? 'Rin and Mai! Capn - "
*Rok doesn't waste any more time, raising the spear up high, he shakes his head to clear the last of the cobwebs before letting the projectile fly, aiming for beast at the head of the group.*
"Capn! Help 'Rin!"

Kieran talks, but waits, ready to take his personal action at the end of the initiative order.

A shadow flits across your vision, and a spear thunks into the sand about twenty feet away from the demons Erin is engaged with.

Then a large object blocks the sun, creating a spot of shade above you. Ropes fly out, hanging in space all about you, as Kieran calls out.

Then another voice calls out.

"Ya remember tha' big button I told ye ne'er to press? Press it and then get bach up 'ere!"

[Snowfire]

Light shimmers and crackles, white lightning burning at its core.

Once there was a Maiden.
Who saw all in Light.
But there was more than she could see,
Cloaked in shadow and fallen stars.
The world turns,
The test comes anew.
But balance,
Will be,
Upheld!

Melanie's entire form shimmers, Light spinning across her being, and two shards lance again from her hands, the power around them subtly...different from before.

Due to modifications of the class, the Illumination system has been pretty much rebuilt. Hence this. It will not have any effect here and now, but it will later on when I rebuild my Illuminations to suit. And due to getting an Enhanced Armament at 1st & 4th level now, I took Oversized as an enhancement. So the Shard's are dealing 1d10.

Evoking Radiant Shard on each attack as normal. Targeting Demon 3.

Melanie will stay on the ground until everyone else is on the ropes, then hit the 'big button' and trigger Cartridge Boost to become incorporeal - hence gaining a fly speed - and fly up to the Gambit.

Light flashes out again, shining across the sand.

As the third demon collapses, laughter tinkles across the air. It is light and melodious, and yet dark and depressing.

"Of all there were,
one yet true.

So you are the ones chosen by the gods to challenge me? I laugh at the feeble attempt. Their 'countermeasure' will prove no more a danger to me, than a flea is to a horse! Come forth, Arbiter. Come to your doom."

The voice, and the laughter, fade away, as though the speaker is flying away from you. Across the sands, the sky grows dim, and the sand begins to glow.

Grym looks around for the source of the voice, "I've got a bad feeling about this."

"Get on the ropes!" Melanie cries. "Crazy-bow-lady, which button?" She points at the largest button on the downed glider. "That one?"

*As the demons fall, and the voice echoes out over the vast expanse, the huge beast-man can't help but shudder - whether from the quickly chilling sweat that has soaked him, or bone-deep terror is impossible to tell.*

*Despite his state, he forces himself to move forward, taking the group of ropes in his massive grip before bracing himself to haul the group up.*
"Ready to pull, Cap'n! Say safe...."

*As his body shivers, he exhales deeply, tensing his muscles and relaxing them in preperation. No need to haul them up with a quick jerk - a steady pull would serve better."

"Arbiter? Was he referring to Melanie?" He wonders aloud.

Larry

"Does it really matter to us? They spoke of evil and good. You aren't the type to pick sides in this sort of fight."

Ignoring the ropes Bellamy leaps onto Bruce's back and hangs on tight as they launch into the air. They take a wide circle around the ship, keeping an eye out below for anything flying up after them.

Erin glanced up at the ship as it came towards them,

Home...

and then he paused. Erin hadn't really thought about it, but the ship was the first place since the Rebirth that he had felt at home. Rok, Kieran, heck even Maura were his allies; his only friends.

Erin points out the 'don't touch it' button to Melanie, and then starts climbing aboard. When he gets on deck, he looks for the engineer.

"Next time, lets try for a proper demonstration. A craftsman is only as good as his tools, no?"

The fight seems tae be over...what were those dark and fearsome shapes...and who are these fighters...are they people?

So this is the service. So blasted and desolate. I cannae believe we used tae raise our children here. I ken it woulda been diff'rent before the raising but...still. I dinnae feel I belong here.

'Erin, Maia! Are ye alright? Can ye vouch fer these folk?'

If folk they are. Looks like a human child, one o' Maia's people, but...what are those?

Then Kieran catches sight of Rok to his left, and for a moment he grins delightedly.

'Rok! Are ye better. I'm so relieved. Neither Arryl nae Lynn seem tae have been able tae shake it off'.

Kieran frowns slightly, and points and the dark shapes of the demons.

'Have ye e'er seen any beast such as them?'

Kieran hauls away at the nearest rope.

He gives a concerned look upwards."Did my rope just slip?"

"Well, we fought together, but we failed to get farther than the immediate discussion necessary to ally ourselves against whatever those creatures where. They seem to be our kind of people, but thats just a gut feeling Captain. I'd look to them first, they took most of the hits in the fight. Particularly that one, he's tougher than he looks."

Erin points to Grym. As he speaks, he tries to conceal his wounds. Erin doesn't want the Captain to worry about him.

Barty gives Erin a quizzical look. "Grym is a woman. Trust me. I know." He turns to Larry, and starts healing him with his powers. He keeps an eye on Erin. Erin fought well with him today, and hopes that he does well for his good deed. "Thank you, captain. I am honored."

Larry

Larry mutters his hateful piece. "Feh. One lousy flashbag makes no difference to me another lousy fleshbag no it does not."

*Feeling the weight on the ropes, he'd given a steady pull, walking directly backwards across the ship, his back and shoulders pulling the group up easily before he drops the ropes and gives his neck a loud, cracking roll.*

"Aye Cap'n. Better enough!"

*His head swam a little at the exertion, but it cleared quickly, and a quick step took him over to the group, he pauses for only a moment before laying a wide hand over Gryms wounds, letting a bit of warmth flow from the belt he wore to heal the wounds she'd taken.*

"Be still, small ting."

Then Kieran jumps a little.

It can talk. So, it is a person, nae a pet then?

Kieran casts a look about 'Keep watching the skies men! Muskets! Stand ready! Prepare tae ascend!'

Kieran turns to the interloper Goes from fighting tae signing himself aboard? Cocky. Probably a caster if he's used tae getting away with that sort o' behaviour.

They could be spies fer Sun Jun. Was this what the Oracle meant? Still, if they are, they already ken the ship name...

'Cap'n Swiftsure, o' The Lady's Gambit at yer sevice - and it's morning Mr Saltfoot. As fer workin' aboard, Mr Saltfoot, well, that depends. Perhaps ye could start by introducing ye companions, and tell me how ye came tae be wandering this desolate place...and what those things were'.

Then Kieran starts as something comes up the rope.

'Ye can start by tellin' me what manner o' Lady taken creature is that, and why I should allow it aboard me ship'.

Kieran points at Larry.

"We are but survivors, cast adrift in this violent land. When our ship was attacked by these demon things we did our best to get by. We're really glad that you've come to rescue us. Don't throw us overboard. I haven't spent the last few days trying to keep this lot alive so you can just throw us back because you don't like the look of us. Bellamy clambers up onto the rail so that he can look the captain in the eye. "We saved your crew too, I might add, after they dropped out of the sky and attracted those demons that we'd been hiding from, so don't you go picking on Larry. He's one of us."

Feeling a bit ridiculous at shouting at their rescuers he hops back down and strides over to stand with Barty and Larry. Something occurs to him as he does so, "You don't mind me saying that I was keeping you alive, do you, Larry? You know on account of your...condition."

[Snowbluff]

Barty

Barty nods at Bellamy. "My associate, Larry White, has been invaluable at defending us against the demons. As for why he should be allowed aboard the ship, he is wiser and stronger than most. But please, he is rather sensitive about his condition." He then leans in towards the captain and whispers "He's had a very bad week, so please excuse him."

Larry opens his mouth to say something nasty, but Barty give him a sharp look to shut him up.

[Snowfire]

Melanie watches as the others move up the ropes, then hits the button pointed out to her by Erin. Light shimmers and crackles around her as she glares across at the oncoming demon, then she seems to simply....fade away. She shoots straight up, spinning around the side of the Gambit, and hovers for a moment beside the deck, watching curiously.

Then she steps onto the deck. Light again washes over her, her gloves fading away in the simple step as her body becomes fully corporeal again. She waves weakly at Grimm, takes a few steps forward, and then collapses. Shock and exhaustion it seems, catching up with her at last.

Barty

Barty disengages from the captain. Kieran seems to be rather vigilant, and he didn't want to upset the captain at this crucial stage. Seeing Melanie collapse, he moves up to her. "Melanie, are you alright?" He doesn't touch Melanie, though. As found of Grym as Barty is, he did not want to get between a mama bear and her cub.

"All this avoiding is tiring." He thinks to himself, rubbing his temples.
