Melanie nods. "On deck the Captain's word is the law of the Air." She quotes softly. "I know the Code, sir."

She drops down onto the ground, hugs Grym, and then shoots up the steps, catching up with Kieran as he calls for a report. Her own eyes scan the skies around them, not expecting to find much, but she might get lucky if there was something out there.

Aimari stays silent during the exchange between the captain and the glowing foreigner. There wasn't really anything to say, and even if there was it wasn't impotant enough to fight with herself to bring into words. As the captain calls, she turns from her thoughts back to reality, going back up onto the deck. It seemed like there might be a storm soon. That would be nice, Aimari liked storms.

Hearing the boom of thunder Bellamy ceases his exploration of the ship and goes to check on Bruce. On deck he sees the muscle that hauled the exploration pod back up and wonders what he was doing in the rigging. Surely so huge a creature would be a poor climber. Hauling himself up he he spent a few minutes talking with the dire bat and coaxed him down to the deck. A stray lightning bolt could strike the ship and they usually hit up high.

Once on deck he goes over to the big guy, "Rok, isn't it? Do you like Bruce? I think he likes you. His wings are delicate though so I'd appreciate it if you could be careful round him. When the weather clears I'll show you what he can do. Catching fruit thrown into the air is a party trick of ours." Bell chats to Rok until someone comes along and gives either of them a job to do. Maybe he'll let something slip

"Um...Captain?" She remarks softly. "You may want to look over the side. I'm pretty sure the sands aren't meant to do that..." She points down at light moving through the darkness below them.

Aimari turns away from the side of the ship, no longer even partially interested in what was below. Only after a moment does she remember that she should probably tell the captain about it - he wasn't versed in what the foreigners called "arcana", so he wouldn't be able to recognize what the strange lights were.

Once again, Aimari quietly heads over to Kieran and gets his attention with a weak prod, nodding to him and speaking, her voice as quiet as it always was. "Those lights shouldn't pose a threat, they are made to gather energy. For what, I do not know, but they themselves will not harm us," shrugging, the hate mage speaks her theory of what they were for. "I imagine that they could be made to produce these...spellstorms, as you foreigners call them. They may also be like Elikrittiza, but those are on a far smaller scale that this," she muses, only meeting Kieran's eyes for a brief moment. She always avoided looking directly at people she spoke to, so this wasn't any more unusual than her behavior normally was.

Melanie blinks, her green eyes flicking from place to place as she traces the shape of the pattern. And something...somewhere in her mind, reacts. Light flares around her, spinning out in a pattern mimicking that below, and her eyes dart from side to side as she looks across it. Then she turns, flashing across the space between herself and the Captain, catching the words of the Aimari in her haste.

"More than that!" She says, her tone fearful - verging possibly on panic. "How...how can none of you know this?" She asks desperately, pointing down through the hull of the Gambit. "That's an ancient ritual pattern, designed to destroy and release barriers! I've never seen anything like it, but I know the basic pattern! I know what it'll do! And it's linked to the evil in the sands below." She darts between the two, her expression desperate.

"If it's linked to the sands, where those demons came from...and if the sands are a barrier that stop more of them coming..." Light flashes over her eyes for a moment. "We have to stop it! The Darkness is already free! If this would unleash her army I...we...it...it can't!"

Aimari looks at the cat-woman for a moment, trying to tell if she's serious or not. Oh good grief, she was. Did these foreigners know nothing?

"We do not require water for magic or cooling, but for drinking and bathing. Really, even foreigners such as yourselves should know that," Aimari replies, nearly speechless at the sheer lack of understanding these people showed. Really, what did they do for water, look up and open their mouths, hoping for rain?

Default Re: Pirates of the Aether

Melanie's fingers quiver, as she desperately prevents herself from clenching them into fists. Her breathing deepens, motes of light slipping and sliding off of her like luminous rain. It comes slow, the same light building around her in the rhythm of a heartbeat, but it comes - pulsing and weaving across her skin and her clothes. And her fingers stop their mad struggle, unclenching and spreading out flat. She looks across at Aimari, and shakes her head very, very gently - her manner utterly not that of a thirteen year old.

"There's no sense in running, Bellamy." She says softly, her green eyes speckled with glittering points of light. "She's faster. And on your own you wouldn't stand a chance." She points down, through the deck below them. "What has been started below us is not something that we can now prevent. Perhaps it is something that we never could have prevented. But we must survive it. For without you," she nods at Kieran, "and the others here, the world will all but certainly fall." She looks across at Aimari again, the lights in her eyes seeming to shine straight through the cloaked and self-hidden woman, and sighs.

"What I would give to be you." She says. "To be able to blind myself to reality with the assumption that I know it better than itself.

"I know what is beneath us. I know what is being awakened, and what will soon be unleashed into this world anew. And I am certain beyond doubt that if we do not survive the unleashing, unless we act together in this moment without the reservation of cultural arrogance and fear," the words are not directed at Aimari alone, they rise above the wind to be heard by all, "we fall. I fall. He," she indicates Kieran again, "falls." She sighs.

"It may be that the one who speaks on the wind will not kill us now, preferring to torment us in our inability to stop her. A fleeting chance, but one that is - despite it all - there. In which case I would ask that we turn our course back to where you came from. For if not the place that she would first strike, it would be high indeed on her list. And from all you have said, it might be the one place where we might have a chance to find our next step in this dance of powers. Unless the ritual itself is a key to that."

More an attempt to pull everyone together and focus them. If PvP skill rolls are a no-no, then it'll still be for the crew. Basically trying to steady them after she may have just frightened them. Give them hope, even in the possibility that there is none.

"We do not lose until our last city falls", "From defeat, victory", etc. etc. Y'know.
