Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Well, Dreamworld finally decided to be co-operative. Got all three games up and gamesynced, Dream Pal'd by B2 with both Black and White, meaning I could raid my Black for the all-important EV berries; sooner I start, the more I'll have stockpiled when I actually want them). And finally - FINALLY - snagged a female DW Corphish after frag knows how many times through Shining Sea; I'd freaking got three males sitting in the tree of life (along with about a dozen other types, all males, save for one illumaise I just coulnd't be bothered to bring back). Sadly, it was Harden not Metal Claw, but at this point...! Might take a while before I can get one with a decent nature/IV spread out of the Entralink, but that can wait until tomorrow.
(I might be playing quite a lot of Pokemon this week, actually; my parents have fragged off to Foreign Parts for a couple of weeks, though my plans of peace and quiet have been somewhat derailed by my neice being off ill (though even if she was at school, I havd been fetching her at least one day this week anyway...) And frankly, I do not feel at all comfortable playing Witcher 2 while she's in the house! Though to be fair, I can probably crib the use of her DS to do a bit more set-up in the meantime, so there's that.)

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Actually, those aren't as important as before, as some of the Join Avenue shops have similar effects.
And you can't even say it's not affordable. One store will sell Mulch, which you can sell to a collector. The Raffle tends to give Berry Juice - same for that. And there was a collector in B/W 1 who liked "stones" - the Hard Stones you always get from the Antique Shop can probably go there, if he's still around.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
This is the list of Pokemon by trainer for Battle Subway in Black and White. I dunno what it is for Black and White 2, but they do appear to not be completely randomly generated.
I assumed this wasn't true, since previous Pokemon didn't do that for their Battle whatevers either. I know Factory was drawn from a list of presents and that the list was similar to Pokemon you could face in other places.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
The only time you can see your bag in the Tower/Treehollow is when you are giving a Pokemon an item.
SpoilerFlash isn't necessary, though, as all the dark rooms have the same layout—four pillars in a diamond pattern in the center, with a trainer circling the room starting from the upper left corner moving clockwise while spinning every two steps.Last edited by Ryuho Tsugu; 2012-11-05 at 09:01 PM.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Cool, Zekrom was Adamant on the first try. Makes that half easy. No I've just soft reset/master ball Kyurem until I get something decent for either forme.
EDIT: Okay, I lied, I just want a good one for Black Forme. Passing over a Timid Kyurem

On Black Tower:
SpoilerWait people actually used Flash for the dark rooms in Black Tower?
For what it's worth, I have gone through Tree Hollow and Black Tower, and have never found a Gate Trainer or Gate in a room where you needed to use the HMs. Though Doctors do sometimes show up in those areas. When you hit that dark room just hug the walls until you hit another door out.If my text is blue, I'm being sarcastic. But you already knew that, right?

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
I finished my Emerald Nuzlocke. Took stock of what I needed for the Pokemon League and noticed I needed something that could handle Wallace with ease. Scoped through my box and noticed I had a Pikachu, but wasn't feeling it. Then I realized I'd never opened New Mauville... Hooray for Magneton. It got KO'd by Wallace's milotic, but it took out Wailord, Gyarados, and Tentacruel along the way. Swampert covered Milotic and Whiscash while Crobat covered Ludicolo via poison fang.
I think I might try a new Nuzlocke on Diamond beginning in the summer. I rather liked it.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Hey guys, it's me again looking for advice. My friendship group has recently started up a "types tournament", where we each pick a type and run a 6-man team based around 'mons which are at least half that type. I've decided to get in on the action with fighting-type, and was wondering what advice you guys have for me in general. I was thinking of having a machamp, as well as scrafty, poliwrath and possibly either cobalion or lucario for that defensive steel type. I've only started thinking on it in the last few hours so I haven't really thought it through all that much, so any ideas you can fling my way would be really useful.

I seem to recall that boj0 had a mono fighting team with which he met some success. He'd probably be fairly helpful to talk to.
What are the exact parameters of the tournament? Items clause, species clause, sleep clause (if no, then breloom is your friend), level, etcetera?Avatar by Babale.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Be sure to pack at least one special attacker. Lucario and Infernape can do the job, as well as Keldeo if legendaries are acceptable. Other than that, it's hard to go wrong, because there are so many amazing fighting types. In addition to what you mentioned, Hitmonlee (w/ Unburden), Conkeldurr, Mienshao, Heracross, Breloom, Blaziken (w/ Speed Boost), Toxicroak, and Gallade are all worth a look.
Personally, I'd recommend Heracross, either with Moxie and a Scarf if you need a revenge killer, or with Guts and a Toxic Orb otherwise. My friends and I affectionately nickname it "Wreck ****", because that's what his (Guts- or Moxie-boosted) STAB Megahorn/Close Combat does.
I'll also vouch for defensive Scrafty. Give him maximum special defense, Leftovers, Shed Skin, and Drain Punch/Crunch/Bulk Up/Rest. He eats any special move not named Hurricane or Aura Sphere for breakfast, and after a Bulk Up or two can shrug off Close Combats and the like. If you can set up, he's nigh unkillable.Last edited by Agent_0042; 2012-11-06 at 12:31 PM.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Considering that Fighting has two hard-ish counters (Psychic, Ghost) and two soft counters (flying, poison), I would be sure to grab Scraggy and run Lucario as a specially offensive sweeper. Scraggy to handle the Psychics, while Lucario Shadow Balls the Ghosts into oblivion. Most fighting types have a Rock move to cover the flying weakness, and Rock type attacks are actually neutral on Poison types.
My type-specialist focuses have primarily been in the Bug and Poison types, so I won't be much use on helping you build your team, but: Poliwrath doesn't -seem- to bring much to the party. Water/Fighting is only so-so offensively, as they cover many of the same types and don't offer much overlap in resistances. I might be overlooking something though.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Nah, poliwrath isn't terribly good.
Suggestion- make sure that everyone on your team can hit ghost types. Give Conkeldurr payback, Give Lucario shadow ball, etcetera. If you end up with a hitmonlee, consider adding foresight to either beat the crap out of their pokemon or force a switch (beware of Hi Jump Kicking through their switch in, however).Avatar by Babale.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Terrakion is a powerhouse, and Lucario should never be used as a defensive fighter. While it's true that Lucario has a large number of resistances thanks to its Steel type, its defensive stats are too low for it to take neutral or Super-Effective hits... and almost everyone tries to pack Fire, Ground, or Fighting moves due to their general good coverage.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
While I am it, glacial Nuzlocke update! I beat Marlon with ease, and just finished up with <plot> while taking some fairly heavy casualties. I lost my Galvantula the first go-around on the Plasma Frigate, and Ghetsis took out the Pawniard replacing him and my Amoongus. This is proving to be one of my most casualty-heavy Nuzlocke runs, probably because I refuse to grind. Not that I'm short on 'mons or anything, but the loss of my Dark- and Steel- types is going to hurt. I'm about to head on to Route 23, so two more friends and a lot of pain to go through before my challenge reaches its end.
Also, I really wish the games would quit with the world-ending-legendary plots. RSE had the advantage of it being fresh even though Aqua/Magma's schemes made no sense; DPPt was acceptable, if over-the-top, because Cyrus was fairly well written and had consistent motivations and goals. I just don't get the B/W/B2/W2 plots or characters.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Black and White wasn't a world ending legendary plot. It was from N's perspective: Use a legendary pokemon's power to liberate all Pokemon! And from Ghestis: Manipulate N to do my bidding and rule the world with Team Plasma being the only one's with Pokemon!
And for Black 2...
SpoilerIt's: Ghestis: I'll take control of Unova this time using the power of Kyurem and Zekrom/Reshiram combined! I'll rule through an iron fist!Busy with Life

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Okay if you can, I HIGHLY suggest either a Choice Banded Jolly Terrakion, or an Adamant one with a Scarf. Max attack and speed EVs with close combat, stone edge, earthquake, and x-scissor.
Physical walls are your biggest problem, ferrothorn isn't so bad due to your typing, however Skarmory and Gliscor just sit and laugh. Find pokes who carry electric or ice moves, mainly elemental punches. Guts is good to have on a few guys since your team will be scald/will-o-wisp bait. Medicham, Gallade, and Heracross beat other fighting types while covering a few type issues, namely poison and a few psychics (slowbro RUINS fighting teams so hera does great).
Uh really all I can think of off the top of my head. Feel free to ask if anything comes upOnce you go blue, nothing else will do. Once you go Quarian...someone will die.

Er, Bojo? It's all fighting types that he'll be going up against.
That said, I advocate Virizion some more.
With Leaf Blade getting STAB, Virizion having an amazing speed and Special Attack, and not to mention Giga Drain...if you just give it a Miricle Seed you'll be destroying in that tournament!Busy with Life

Umm...
Assuming there are less people than types, check which types are being used.
If you can find that out, maybe put in Gallade to surprise anybody who found out the same about you. Or Staraptor.

Oh.
Ohhhhhhhhh.
My mistake ><
Yes, Terrakion is an amazing choice then. Knowing this new info, I still say Virizion is still an amazing choice.
However, I'd say make sure that one of your mons have a fire type move. As whoever chooses steel or bug will most likely be using Scizor and Genesect(if they allow Genesect).Busy with Life
