Re: Total War: Broken City
Market Guard/Peacocks to Doctor Vassari (6)
Spoiler
Certainly, we'll put some money towards that. It's a good idea.
As for Deplorian, that could be a good idea. On the one hand, that would bring more coin to the district; on the other hand, that means that we'd have Deplorian's operators running their own show on our turf. After what happened with Embler, I don't doubt they'll have heavy security around wherever they relocate to.
Thelonius (GM PM)
Spoiler
1. The gang members from the Mains are, for the most part, common criminals. Some are murderers, yes, but others are merely the sort who hang around street corners making a nuisance of themselves. The universal belief among all of them is that they weren't doing anything bad enough to deserve the level of reprisal that occurred.
2. Skeeve Redeye is a serial killer originally from the Illarym Empire. Got caught in the Grey City, sentenced to death, escaped and fled to the Shattered Lands, where he really went off the chain. Most of what is "known" about him is mere rumor and hearsay--he's actually a demon, he can turn into mist, his stare drives men insane, etc. Depending on who you ask, you might hear him called Redeye, the Poisoner, the Dollmaker or the Bloody Eye. He is known to be an expert alchemist with a taste for exotic poisons, and tends to leave behind bloody mannequins after his killings, which have been said to kill further people on their own. Unnatural fog is said to be a sign of his coming.
It is also known that a couple years back he went off and killed almost the entire Lonecutter family (you may have noticed the bounty from the current Lonecutter warlord on the bounty board).
3. Not efficiently, no. But she put enough Wealth into the project to balance that out.
Hollow Militia to Order of the Wren (4)
Spoiler
It's not really anything concrete, unfortunately. People who try to patrol the Hollow--catch criminals, collect taxes, anything--they just get killed. That's why we, the Militia, focus more on helping people barricade their homes than we do on patrolling. People out after dark don't come back sometimes.
Sister Serina, Bleak Cathedral (PM)
Spoiler
I? Show myself? How would I do that? You made me, dear Sister. You stepped into the Cathedral with veins full of magic and a heart full of faith, and the force of your belief pulled me together from the dreams in the air. I've got a little bit of everyone here, now--fury from a thousand sleeping warriors, poetry from the greatest pens ever to grace a page, ancient wisdom from kings of old. The monks here, they don't have enough belief left to pull me out of the aether. You do.
And I must say, it feels good to be existing again.
Dovel (Sausage Guild PM)
Spoiler
The Dove comes along quietly, stealing nervous glances at the hulking Guild workers surrounding him. After a while he takes out a silver coin and begins rolling it across his fingers as he walks--a nervous habit that he doesn't seem to be aware of.
A door opens in the bottom of the Conductor's Tower when the group reaches it. The Dove goes in alone, looking back at the men who had escorted him there as the door closed behind him.
Several hours later, he emerges, completely bemused.
"He wanted to talk about metals," he says.
Ansigaris to Sausage Guild (4)
Spoiler
That sounds like an excellent arrangement. Expanded business and expanded coffers--what fool would turn such an offer down?
To oblivion6/Thelonius
Spoiler
Certainly. It would cause a small dot of red to appear on the map in your territory, is all, and Bloodhaven would be able to work in distant areas more easily (normally there are penalties for acting far away from your own territory).
Wallen Manor
House Matoff arrives with an aggressive amount of fanfare, stepping out of ornate coaches as family heralds announce their presence. They're out in force tonight; Lord and Lady Matoff descend hand-in-hand, followed by the eldest son, Gregory, here to learn his father's political tricks.
Soon after their cronies start filtering in--House Unlas, House Mortife, House Leoui and all the rest. Chances are they had people watching the Matoff residence to make sure they didn't arrive before them.Total War

Re: Total War: Broken City
Bloodheaven
Streets of Sav Altulas
Morden emerged from the shadows, under the stare of the men he's been stalking.
''Now what would you be doing on this street, at this hour, good doctor? Isn't it a bit of a distance from your hospital.'' The man's voice was friendly, but Morden sensed the tension in his posture.
''I didn't know I was that recognizable of a figure.'' He answered apologetically.
''Not many people without face in this city. At least those, who wear such expensive scarves.'' The man replied, his posture not relaxing for an inch. ''So, will you answer my question?''
''I simply wanted to talk to your boss. And you would be somebody, who could arrange a private meeting.'' Vassari leaned on the wall, checking, that nobody was snooping on their chat, but the narrow, dirty street, they was completely empty, apart from a trio of shaggy dogs.
''What about?'' The man's voice grew more interested.
''I had a patient in the hospital. Well, I wasn't present personally, but I like to review the records of all interesting cases.'' Vassari produced a parchment, quickly showing it to the man, before snatching it back from view.
''He talked?''
''No. But, I'm no fool. I put two and two together. Your boss has the information. I have the skills. I propose cooperation.''
''Very interesting proposal. Why would you make it? I mean, even if you have some reputation, you must see the risks.''
Morden hesitated before answering. ''Call it personal reasons.''
The man studied his face for a long time, probably cursing the bandages, that his the expression beneath them. ''Personal...'' His eyes lit with understanding. ''You mean it was... I see. Then your interest is more then understandable.'' He looked at the bandages again speculatively. The conclusion, that the man must have reached was incorrect, but Morden had no desire to dispel the confusion. It was indeed a personal issue, but not in that way. He checked the street and roof again, breathing in the stale city air. Nobody was there.
''I'll pass the word to my boss. I'm certain he'll be pleased to hear of it.'' The man continued.
''I will await for you to set the location of the next meeting, so we can work out details.'' answered Morden. They've already talked for too long. It was time to split. He disappeared into the night and started making his roundabout way back into his territory.
To ??? [6]
Spoiler
To Agent of Lucas Deplorian
''I'm Morden Vassari, representing the interests of a number of factions in the Triphage Untima.''
''I wanted to ask, if it was possible to convince you to keep your operations in the Sav Altulas and move them to one of the neighbourhoods in the Triphage Untima?''
[Okay, second best REP in city (5 points, opening post has incorrect number of 4). If there is anybody you can trust to make an honest deal, that would be me. And Militia of Order & Justice, but they aren't offering.]
Peacocks/Little Zanchar Market Guards [6]
Spoiler
''I don't think they'll be in the right place in either Painted Court or Elfwatch. The Little Zanchar can be a more acceptable location.''
''Based on how their previous agent operated, he seemed to keep things nice and orderly, so there shouldn't be much friction between Tinker King's men and the Market Watch. And no matter how strong guard they send, they will need local supporters. Their troops will ensure our independence, our support will ensure they can keep doing their business without sneak attacks and coalitions fighting them.''
''I will try to talk to their new agent and see, on what conditions, he'd be willing to operate. If it looks, like they'll try to take over against wishes of the Market Guard, of course there could be no deal.''

Re: Total War: Broken City
Ram Revolution:
Announcement to the city in general:
As many have heard by now, a new city council has been formed. Despite the allegations of favoritism and backroom deals, I would like to point out that the meeting that the council was created at was an open meeting, and anyone who wanted to come was allowed in. There were representatives from the lower and upper classes, from the monarchists, democrats, and anarchists, and the current council was elected by popular vote by all who felt that government was worthwhile enough to show up. If you have a problem with this government, I suggest that you appear at the next elections and speak your case.
In addition I would like to invite anyone in the city to bring important matters to the attention of the council: external or internal threats, disagreements between city factions, or anything else that you feel the council should take a hand in solving. While it is not always in session (all members of the council have day jobs, after all) it can be called into session at any time, so if there is a problem that they need to handle, simply bring it to our attention.
We hope that, in time, we can show the results of our desire to bring calm to the city, and prove that we are here for the good of the city in general, not only our own factions.
To: The Council
Spoiler
I would see the evidence of the collaboration between the Librarian and the MU before I cast my vote on how it should be handled. I suggest that those who have a problem with these groups come before the council - perhaps allowing the evidence that the Champions of Sovereignty is getting from it's trials to be presented at that time as well - at which point the council can look into all of the current problems in the city and decide what to do.

Re: Total War: Broken City
Technist Guild Annocement
The Technist guild has realized that the university, once a shining beacon of learning, has fallen to a mage that would hoard the knowledge withen. While we make no pretensions of moving against her, we do ask that she reopen the libray, and let the light of education free.
And on that note, we have opened a school. In the coming days, we are planing to expand it, and set up programs to help the common people of the city. The courses will be free, and all who desire it, common or noble, are welcome.
Currently, we will be holding courses on langauge, math, history and several branchs of basic science. If others wish to lend their expertise, the city can become a new haven for those who seek to raise the hieght of civillzation, and drive back the darkness of ignorance.

House Laurier - Esoteric Society of Gentleman Explorers [4]
SpoilerHello! My name is Alexandre Laurier, head of the Laurier household in Lomb Circle. I've heard rumors of a certain power that your people have access to: anti-magic. See, the Laurier family has never meddled in magical affairs; we are quite a mundane folk. As such, I am greatly interested in getting my hands on or learning whatever necessary to... even the playing field, you might say. We won't be harnessing any magical powers ourselves, so it would be nice to ensure that others can't use it against us either. Let me know, if you would.
House Laurier - The Technists Guild [4]
SpoilerHello there! My name is Alexandre, head of House Laurier down in Lomb Circle. Rumor of your machinery and knowledge has reached my ears and I am interested in any goods you have invented that might give us an edge over our opponents. In fact, perhaps we could work out a deal to keep each other readily supplied with the best and latest. The district I reign over has access to numerous outside contacts who you might benefit from interacting with in your studies. Why reinvent something already utilized in another part of the world?
I am specifically interested in your progress on airships. Quite an interesting project, that is. See we're not from here; we're from the Kingdom of Merdallan where airships are used. I would most certainly be interested in having a few myself. As for the rest, I don't have any special requests. I'd just be interested in getting my hands on whatever everyone else is having you work on. Have to stay technologically competitive.Total War Stats:

The Champions of Sovereignty
To the Gear's Chosen [2]
Spoiler"Greetings. I have a proposal for you."
"In your current position, as an independent faction in the city, recognised by neither the people of your neighbourhood, or any of the other major powers, you are great risk of coming under attack. I understand your forces are quite weak, so this would be a disastrous blow for your religion."
"You have given me no reason not trust you, and I don't want to see innocent people hurt, so I'd like to offer you a deal. If you're willing to do a few things to make life easier for the people of The Gear, I'll swear you as official mayor of the neighbourhood."
"As mayor I'll protect you for any harm to your faction, and give you a place on my council, to play a part in making decisions that will affect the entire city. I won't demand aid from you when I'm in danger, or attempt to direct your religious works, though I will need to observe them, to be sure they don't present a threat to the people. I would of course appreciate your aid, but other the public works, you will be free to spend your money as you wish."
"What do you think?"

Re: Total War: Broken City
Esoteric society of Gentleman Explorers [6]Before the Council
Sirs, I have all the evidence required right here. These messages were taken off Mages Ubiquitous sifter magi apprehended by the Blackjack Brotherhood and transcribed before the enchantments on them could destroy them. We have no doubt that the messages were received, despite our best efforts. I will let their contents speak for themselves.
The Librarian of the Elements
To: Shifter magi
The presence of the Blackjack Boys within Redress Street is rumored to be a rather great hindrance to you. Furthermore, it would seem that another faction is seeking to gain influence with them by providing advanced weaponry.
Since previous attempts at subtlety within this city have found deaf ears, I'll make my offer a tad blunt. I will remove the Blackjack Boys from existence, and give you control of the neighborhood. In exchange, you will govern the neighborhood in my name, and support me in my efforts to take control of this city.
This is your chance to gain a foothold within the city. Whether you take it or not is up to you.Mages Ubiquitous to Librarian of the Elements
That would be...excellent. We thank you for this kind and generous offer.
"Ah, lord Matoff. Such a pleasure to see you, as always."
To House Laurier [4]
SpoilerAh, well, you see, at the moment, our forces are tied up dealing with the Librarian of the Elements, so you can understand that we can't spare anything right now without compensation. I'm sure you understand.
(OOC: in other words, what can you give me in exchange?)
To Technist's Guild [4]
SpoilerSirs,
I have an interest in acquiring a device for high-speed communication over long distances. Normally, I would simply purchase one, however, as the technology does not exist, I cannot in this case. Approximately how much do you estimate you will need for this research?
That reminds me, how are your airships coming? I believe I expressed interest some time ago.

Spoilerwell, we are currently in the proccess of peacefully arranging a merger with the gears chosen, since we dont want them continueing this holy-war business with the technists guild...especially with this new weapon of theirs
we are also going to be investigating the carriage houses in the turnaround, since we uncovered a massive smuggling ring and it appears one of the houses may be part of it. however we may be wrong about that

Re: Total War: Broken City
House Laurier
Wallen Estate
The Laurier carriage arrives at the Wallen Estate just a few minutes after the party has started. Dressed in a deep navy suit, Alexandre steps out of the coach and offers a hand to help his wife out. Alexandre is a robust man with fair hair and a cheery smile. He is obviously well beyond his prime, but he still carries himself with an air of confidence. Said confidence comes in no small part from the beauty of his wife. Age seems not to have touched Lady Marguerite Laurier, a noblewoman hailing from the same land that the Lauriers are from. She is dressed in a long, indigo Merdallan gown, obviously proud of her ties to the kingdom.
The handsome couple makes their way towards the estate where they meet and greet Lord Wallen and his family. "This is my wife, Lady Marguerite. Thank you for having us. Your home is as lovely as I imagined."
Technist Guild, Mercantile's Guild [4]
SpoilerWe would be extremely interested in sponsoring this project. Airships will only help this city, but it would be nice having a hand in their creation and use within these walls. The Lauriers have not only money, but also some very valuable connections.
Oh, and despite the Mercantile's Guild reading our mail, I would still be interested in the other things I mentioned in my last message, Technist Guild.
Esoteric Society of Gentleman Explorers [4]

EBSA Def 5
Esoteric Order of Gentlemen
SpoilerIt is unfortunate that you missed out on the nomination process, but the best we can do is work together towards the greater good.
EBSA HQ- Esoteric Order of Gentlemen
The secretary looks up and adjusts her spectacles as she examines the man before her "Uh yes, we have been looking for consultants interested in helping cleaning out the Palace. " she smiles and opens a large book "Can you tell me your name and specialty?"
Heladuit Court
SpoilerWe are working to reestablish the old lines of bureaucracy throughout the city. For now, they will mostly act to facilitate city wide communication and work as the neighborhoods legal consul. As governments come, whether the provisional council or what comes after, they field offices will facilitate all the paperwork and smooth actions as the EBSA has done for a century.
Champions of Sovereignty
SpoilerOf course. We will send the lawyers and judges- whatever you need to run a legal and fair court of law. Might I suggest that it happens either inside the Halls of Final Justice or the home neighborhood.
City Council
SpoilerOn the Blackfist Brotherhood- We can set up a exploratory commitee (read, espionage action) led by our own Kara Lythene to find this evidence that you wish. We are close friends with the Bookbinders guild, and with some help with funding we can easily get the information printed.
On the Librarian, the evidence that the esoteric order has given seem to be rather telling I must say.
On the Daiosong Palace clean-up, the EBSA will be putting much of our power there unless the council decides we are needed elsewhere more. She's Shona Han. Disappearing for a hundred years just means she's had a hundred years to plan. Trying to find out what happened to her is just going to draw her attention.

The Silversmith Guild is also, separately trying to take control of the Dappled Court. Eventually, we will be in contention for it. We may need your help to ensure that it is ours."

Re: Total War: Broken City
The Sausage Guild
Dovel (GM)
SpoilerOnce the Dove comes back out the big worker smiles. "See I told you you had nothing to worry about." He fumbles in his jacket and produces a large card, large because it has to contain the oversized handwriting of Urso Bloodhand who had to have a custom pen made to fit his hand. "Here take this. Any friend of the Conductor is a friend of the Sausage Guild. You ever need help, and you just show that to any butcher in the city and we'll be right with you." He looks around "Now these streets should be safe enough, but if you want we can escort you back to your loft. Otherwise just let us know if you ever need a bit of muscle." With that the guild workers will either escort the Dove back or go back to the Bunkers.
To the Conductor
SpoilerWe assume your meeting went well. Would you like us to do anything else for you.
To the Ansigaris
SpoilerExcellent, since you will be the public face of this endeavor we will let you pick where we should expand first. Do you believe we should present our services to the ambassadors and diplomats, moneychangers, or "guild" representatives first.
We will of course be expanding our vaults underneath Dovel shortly if you will assure the residents that nothing is amiss.

Do you need any more muscle for the palace clearing? I have some forces that are getting tired of the new parade ground, and want to get this government functional ASAP.

SpoilerI'm Commander Julius Lance, of the Blackjack Boys. I specialize in antimagic and dealing with hostile magic. I propose a deal. You see, we realize what a threat to the city the unraveling enchantments in Daisong have become, but unfortunately, we are, at the moment, all kept busy dealing with the Librarian of the Elements. Naturally, we will need compensation if we are to help you take Daisong. (OOC: what will you give me in exchange for getting to use Antimagic I for a turn or two)Total War factions

Spoiler
RE: REP: So I did. It's been added.
RE: Mercenaries: For the right amount of money, just about all of the bandit lords in the Shattered Lands will turn mercenary. If you want good blades-for-hire, however, the mercenary houses Laheim are just to the north of Sav Altulas. The soldiers of the City of Bells are always looking for work.
Gerald Neilson to Doctor Vassari (6)
Spoiler
That is an intriguing proposal, Mr. Vassari. I had planned on reestablishing Mr. Deplorian's operation in White Market, but truly, the only redeeming qualities that location has for me is its ready access to Traitor's Bridge and the Altulan markets. I would like to move our shipping business, at least, away from the Wardens, as they seemed rather eager to seize the items that Mr. Embler was moving through Sav Altulas for us. I am not personally familiar with the Triphage Untima--is there a ready way of moving goods in and out of the city from there?

Gear's Chosen to Champions of Sovereignty (2)
Spoiler
Your offer is enticing, but there are a few things that we feel must be defined before proceeding. For example, what would you constitute "Making things easier" for the people of the Gear? For that matter, what would you define "A threat to the people" as? Some of our holy and righteous designs have the potential to malfunction, sometimes in spectacular fashion, but to deny construction of them would be to allow demons to invade the hearts of men, which of course cannot be allowed.
Blackthorne and Exodus Carriage Houses to Champions of Sovereignty (2)
Spoiler
In response to your message each of the Houses lists off a round dozen cases of the other hiring bandits to waylay their coaches or sabotaging their mail lines. After that, they proceed to accuse the other of lying, and begin fighting again.
North Drovers to Champions of Sovereignty (2)
Spoiler
Well, we appreciate the help, but you got to understand that people are a little nervous about people coming in from outside and patrolling the streets, you know? Reminds everyone a little too much about what happened in the Deep a couple months ago.
Dovel (Sausage Guild PM)
Spoiler
"I..." the Dove looks a bit lost for a moment before taking the card. "Yes, of course. Thank you. I believe I can find my way home from here. I wouldn't want to trouble you gentlemen further." The ironic tilt to his last few words is not lost on the Guild man.

Re: Total War: Broken City
GM Only
Spoiler
Okay. What is the main trade flowing in and out of the city? (Apart from counterfeit coins and plauges). Are we trading with the local warlords? Illyrum Empire?
Gerald Neilson [6]
Spoiler
[I’m going to assume that river Tethyn can be used for shipping, since there is shipbuilding done for it. How good of a trade route is it? Perhaps I can ''convince'' those incompetent shipyard masters to make decent ships. Or rather Mercantile Guild could.]
''The district lies close to the river Tethyn. The shipment of the goods to the Underdocks would require their passage through either Technists Guild [Gaspar’s Folly] or Worldbreaker’s Gang [Old Jack’s Run]. I have contacts with both of them and I believe I can secure safe passage, whatever route you’d chose.''
''The shipment itself would be done from the Underdocks that are under control of United Alliance of Labor. They aren’t a reputable sort of operation, but their motivation appears to be money and as long as their greed is satiated, I don’t believe they’ll cause any problems.''
''Additionally, in the near future access from Triphage Untima to the Traitor’s Bridge wouldn’t be as troublesome. The factions between us and the city walls are shaping out to be ESBA, Militia of Law and Justice, House Laurier and Mercantile Guild. All of them wouldn’t want to see the flow of trade disrupted. I’m currently planning to conduct talks with the Mercantile Guild, that controls the Traitor’s Bridge, to see if such safe route can be established.''
''There is an additional advantage in placing your operations in Triphage Untima. The Technist Guild is working on building airships. While I won’t step in one of their contraptions at this point, they are making steady progress with many sponsors. There could be a new shipping point from Sav Altulas in several years’ time.''
''And Triphage Untima is located next to both Heaven’s Gate and Sky districts, where the wealthy and nobility dwells, which could benefit you in establishing easier contacts with them.''
[If Mr. Nielson is concerned about Technist Guild getting too enticed about his wares, I'll reassure him, they don't have enough troops to be a threat by themselves.]

Re: Total War: Broken City
Meeting at Wallen Manor
Lord Wallen:"I'm happy to have you all here. This night is wonderful, and perfect for the reason of this party.
This is a birthday Party. A night like this, some thousands year ago, Atulas the Great founded this city, just like our nobility."
(That is not the technical truth. Atulas is said to have been a mithical figure, though some noble houses claim to descend from him.
And many more have forged papers during the centuries to make it look like they descend from him.
Also, with all the calendar changes, it's hard to talk about an exact date anymore.
But many nobles believe that the Foundation of the City was the Foundation of their house.)
"Many of you believe me and my Friends scorn tradition, and step out of our places. We have, in a sense, by organizing into something greater than the size of many of our houses, and trying to choose leaders based in capacity more than in their lineage.
But by doing that, we have revived an even older tradition.
Sav Atulas Nobility can still rule. We still have a place in the city.
But we are in danger. Many are close, such as the librarian of the elements, whose actions have been highlighted, amongst others, by our own Lord Bennet Founder.
I wish to take this chance to thank him publicly for his actions, and his continued defense on the rights of nobility."
"So, Sav Atulas Nobility, this is to you!! May this night marks the beggining of a new Age for nobility!!"
After the toast and the complimentary applause (Lord Wallen wasn't sure how much of it was complimentary), he stepped down, and started to make small talk with many nobles.
To Heladuit Court [PM]
SpoilerHow may we help?
To spend [Mil] to help you, we need a reason or excuse to justify military action before the Council.
You can help us in a very simple way. We need to make our words heard throughout the City, and not just the halls of Nobility. Your workers could expand our ideas by talking to the right people [Spend Morale and Money to expand the ideals of Lord Wallen's Party].
To House Laurier
"And I'm happy to have you here, Milord. How are you liking the city? Is there anything the Party can do for you?"
To Esoteric society of Gentleman Explorers
SpoilerLord Wallen separates Lord Founder of a small noble group, to talk to him alone. "Well, now we have the chance to talk, Milord. I see you know my neighbour, Lord Matoff. What do you think of his new party?"
To Lord Matoff
"Milord, glad to have you here. I have heard you are planning to create a Party, good luck with that.
Are you sure you don't want to join ours?"
City Council
"Oh, my, that is dreadful!! My Lords, we must do something about this!!!
The Party will support direct actions, given this evidence!"Last edited by Ragnar Lodbroke; 2012-08-09 at 06:04 AM.

Esoteric Society of Gentleman Explorers [6]
Wallen and founder's little chat
Spoiler"Some of their ideas I agree with completely, but others not so much. In all honesty, I support them as a gift to you. Having political oppisition gives one the oppertunity to examine one's own position. Nothing makes you realize your flaws quite so much as someone screaming them to the world. Honestly, a little competition will be good for you. You have been getting a bit ahead of yoursef, what with being the only real political party in the city which hasn't dissolved due to lack of politics."
Before the council
"I thank you for your kind and generous support."Last edited by Nyrt; 2012-08-09 at 09:14 AM.
