which does nothing but confirm to me that some creative prankster out there must have thought "they'll shoot it down because it's ugly anyway, but let's see how far I can push this gag", dropped the drawing off and went on a holiday..and obviously it went downhill from there.
I wonder if Sir Coe is a fan of the Simpsons

come to think of it, I can totally see someone make a movie out of it.. with Hugh Grant posing as an oblivious Coe and Simon Pegg as the creative genius behind this illconcieved logo.. someone should pitch it to them

They're the same people that approved an Olympic logo that looks like Lisa Simpson doing....well, if you imagine the "1" as a pair of bent knees:

In 99 francs (a book, also a French movie with Dujardin), the advertisers grow even more disillusioned than they started up, and try to make the worst ads possible whenever they lack the time and creative liberty to find great ideas (aka all the friggin' time), but not so bad as to be censored or rejected. The end result is called "last minute [excrement]".
In the book, we can read several of those over-the-top rejected ads. They're... not safe for kids. (Not that the movie is either.)
