The great village of Konohagakure, the Village Hidden in the Leaves, has stood strong against adversity for countless years. During the First Ninja War it was Konoha that insisted on peace rather then conflict, and took measures to separate the tailed beasts amoung the major countries and thus defuse any hostilities. During the Second War it was Konoha's Legendary Sannin that drew the Infamous Hanzo the Salamander into a stalemate, and his retreat. And it was Konoha's current Hokage, Minato Namikaze, that defeated untold amounts of Iwa ninjas during the Third and last Ninja War, earning himself the title 'the Yellow Flash'. Despite all of the war that this village has been put through, It has endured. Indeed, it has flourished as the glowing example of the country's 'Will of Fire'. This is where your story begins, but will you endure as the men and women before you have..?

Morning had come, as it always did for the people of Konoha. Merchants set up shop in their district, travelers wandering about, wives gossiping on the sidelines. It was just as it was yesterday, and the day before that. But today was special. it was an amazing time for a class of accomplished pupils.

Inside the Konoha Ninja Academy was a classroom, utilitarian just like most Kage managed structures, were several awaiting boys and girls. In total there were 27 of them, all with their own uniqu styles, personalities, and dreams. All were here for one simple reason: They had passed the mandatory Genin Exam, and were to be anointed as full-fledged ninja. This is an exciting event, as for many it meant the potential for freedom, adventure, and glory.

For anyone paying attention, the clock on the wall read 8:20 am, ten minutes before class normally started. Though their graduation might change the schedule slightly, that still left plenty of time before the classes teacher would arrive.

Regardless of the life-altering destiny awaiting them, one of the student prepares a fishing rod. A sunken eyed youth with messy hair, he's begun a descent into adolescence with a very gangly, lank body that offers no apologies for how much of a beanpole it makes him appear. The baggy cargos and sleeveless shirt he wears will, in all likelihood, be outgrown within the next few months.

Something of an enigma, on sight he's referred to as "the sword kid" due to the rather obvious katana that accompanies him: a rather old affair with a clover hilt and both saya (scabbard) and grip wrapped in clay-red leather washers. Anyone who knew him before he 'earned' (his own words) that sword, and in most dialogue, he's referred to as "the poor kid" or rarer "that polite kid." Both are apt descriptors.

Few know him by his surname: Tsugumo.

Wordlessly, he continues winding fishing twine around a lure, the contents of his belt pouch, scattered in a small cluster on his desk, revealed to be more of the same like a makeshift tackle box. It's... almost a rude scene, really, is he preparing for a vacation? He offers no explanation, he just prepares a lure or three in what may or may not be insolence. For him, portents of the future or no, he still has to catch an evening meal later.

There was a kid carelessly sitting on a windowstool near the far end of the class. His black haori with the clan mon, worn above far more casual turquoise outfit was a dead giveaway of his affiliation. The kid was no other, then the Uchiha heir, Uchiha Yukito, and right now he, desithe the calm expression was in a bad mood. Not in the 'angry' bad mood, more like 'sad' - and it was obvious to anyone, who would take care to observe the boy for a minute or two - he wasn't the top of the class in hiding his emotions.
Today Yukito came to the class with a sword that nobody have seen with him before. Nothing special, just a plain mass-produced katana, shortened and lightened for a kid to use properly, but still, it was the change, Said sword was lying on Yukito knee, while being held by boy's hand.
The Uchiha heir signed and trifled his braid a little. In near ten minutes, the teachers will come, and he'll be paired with two of his classmates in a team, which will be supposed to hold together for a substantual part of their ninja career. He gave a long glare to the rest of the class, remembering all, he knew about his classmates.

Mikoto took deep, calming breaths in and out through her nose. (Her mouth stung. The shoukakyuu was not kind to those outside the Uchiha clan.) She resisted the urge to fidget with one of the many senbon concealed on her person.

No ninja did well surrounded by unknown ninja, but Mikoto had more reason than most to be uneasy. These were the students she'd competed against just the other day to graduate at the top of the class, and somewhere in the throng was the boy she had tricked into underestimating her during their spar at the graduation test. Regardless of the fact that trickery was a necessary ninja skill, it still made her nervous to think that she could be on a team with him. What if he held it against her? What if he abandoned her at a critical juncture during a mission because of the grudge?

Lost in her thoughts, Mikoto stared down at the desk in front of her, Aburame trenchcoat and sunglasses effectively cutting her off from the classroom full of strangers.
