"Yes, I suppose it is a blessing. She seems really happy now. Things like that remind me there's a point to all this."

Jefferies is horror struck. "Oh no! I only has a pink suit!"


"We're just lucky she got out at all." And here Missy relates the story of the tenement fire, with details not spelled out explicitly just in case Jefferies accidentally hears a bit, though it's not likely at all between the distance, the low voices on one end, and the splashing and normal voices on the other.

Brief details for anyone who wasn't following the thread at the time: Human supremacists torched a tenement house, then stood around with guns shooting people who tried to run. There weren't many survivors. In the Stories thread, the story "Futility" tells about Captain Jefferies, the firefighter who died rescuing the little orc.

Sophie scowls when as she listens to Missy's story.
"It was them who did it? I ran into those maniacs once. But I expect Remnant has files on this."

"Well, pink is kind of like light red ma'am." Butler says. It sort of counts?

"Oh! So I can go a little bit fast now and lots fast if I get a red suit?" Jefferies asks.


"Mhm. The same group that killed a Magtok while he was proposing to his girlfriend," Missy says. "The problem we have is that most of them aren't doing anything criminal, including the new leader. At least not where we can catch them."

"Yes ma'am." Butler affirms with a nod. This makes all the sense.

"Unfortunately, being a specieist scumbag isn't a crime," Sophie says. "It seems there's nothing anyone can do, other than watch them in case they try something violent again."

"Yay!" She's sure Missy will buy her a red suit if she asks nicely and doesn't say any more bad words today!

More swimming happens, and eventually Missy decides that Jefferies can go on the Big Slide. "Sophie, can you and Butler wait at the bottom? I'll go down the slide with Jefferies."

"Of course. Good luck!" Sophie says with a wave to Jefferies.

"Certainly ma'am." Butler says, swimming over to the appropriate spot. "Whenever you're ready ma'ams!" I think Jefferies has been ready for a while...

Alysha smiles and waves at both of them. Hey guys. I found a girl that seems to have some kind of memory issues, and I thought somebody here might be able to help. Alysha turns to where Yuki was standing, and finds her further down the hall. She'll call out to her.

Hey, Yuki. This is Quinn and her daughter Jamie. Quinn runs the infirmary here, and might be able to help you.

Infirmary

Yuki spins around and walks over with a smile on her face.

"Hello Quinn, I'm Yuki.

Yuki is dressed in a simple white robe that falls down to her just above her ankles. Quinn may have noticed the washed but still slightly visible blood stains on the back of it.

Quinn nods to Yuki, and her eyes widen a bit as she notes the stains. "It's good to meet you. Are you hurt?" the paladin/telepath asks, gently trying to steer Yuki torwards one of the medical beds.



Jamie, meanwhile, waves to Alysha to to come join her, Hadrian and Brinika!

Jefferies is out of the water in a flash!

Or maybe not a flash. She doesn't seem to have acquired Red Suit Level swimming speed - or any swimming speed - yet. But once she splashes her way back to where her feet touch the bottom, she's running as fast as she can!

She climbs a few rungs of the ladder before Missy gets there, and as Missy does not want to use the few minutes of super-speed she can safely do without her power armour in catching up, she just bellows out for Jefferies to wait. Which Jefferies does, quivering in excitement.

Finally they climb up the ladder together, and sit at the top with Jefferies in Missy's lap. Jefferies looks down the loooong length of the slide. "I think dis might be a little scary for Master Chief."

"I bet. But not scary for you, right? Because you're strong and brave." Missy coaxes, knowing that Jefferies would far more regret backing out now than she would going for it.

"Dat's right! I is brave!" Jefferies says.

Missy takes that as her signal to push off.

"WHEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"

"WHEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"

Quinn will find that Yuki does pretty much anything asked of her, so steering her towards the hospital beds is no problem.

"I was, but Alysha healed me. I am feeling much better now."

Sophie watches with some amusement as Jefferies and Missy slide down.

"Ah, that's good to hear. I hope you won't mind if I take a look myself though? A second opinion is always good to have," Quinn says with a warm smile.

"Of course. I appreciate your help."

Quinn seems pretty nice and Alysha seems to trust her so Yuki figures she must a good person. Of course Yuki is pretty trusting in general.

An quick inspection of her should revel that she has a few tenders spots on her ribs and a bump on her head. Oh and it looks like she until recently had a pair of wings on her back that have been violently ripped or cut off.

From the Main Entrance, Justin Mine strolls right on in. He's enjoying himself, with full intent to get where he's going eventually, but he finds himself enjoying the nature. He's, literally, stopping to smell the flowers. Seems for once he's enjoying time off rather than looking for some new mission or quest or whatever. He's free to talk to just about anybody.

There are Applehills around that he could encounter. Or if he goes by the lake, he'll see Sophie, Butler, Jefferies, and Missy all swimming in the lake.

*SPLASH*

The force from the slide is enough to send Jefferies and Missy underwater, arm floaties and all, but Missy keeps her arm around Jefferies' waist and swims back up with her quickly. The water is very deep near the slide. Luckily the mermaid isn't attacking today.

Jefferies is all spluttering and flailing. Missy forgot to make sure she'd actually gotten her head underwater during the practice swim, so Jefferies was unprepared for this. As soon as she recovers, she shouts, "Let's go again!"

After making sure that Yuki is set with Quinn, Alysha will join Jamie and friends.

Hey Jamie! What's up? Jamie might notice a distinct lacking of Alysha's usual black hoodie.

The Applehills are just the halflings he wanted to see actually. Justin makes his ambly way from the entrance to the Main Cabin to see if anyone from that family of cooking geniuses is around to chat.

Main Cabin

For fun, lets put all four Applehills in the cabin!

Pansy is in her halfling sized rocking chair, knitting. Lily is sitting nearby, playing with her Wolfen dolls. Brand is at the table kneading bread.

Tito is the first to notice him. "Hi Justin," he says with a smile. He's peeling potatoes. Once he speaks, the others all look up and greet him as well.

"Hey you guys, it's been a bit." Justin says to the whole family at once. "How's it going? Anything interesting happen since the wedding?"

"I miss Waterstrider," Lily says. "And Renetta and Flamecrest. I wanted to go with them."

Tito rolls his eyes and mouths the word "Stupid!" where his parents can't see, but Justin might.

"It's been quiet, and rather lovely," Brand says.

I just realized, the rescued slaves have not been posted for since their arrival. Have they assimilated? We'll never know unless we poke Earl and Alex!

Justin gives Tito a bit of a look. C'mon Tito, that's hardly worth an insult. "I'm sorry Lily. Grownups do really grownup things on Honeymoons. You probably would have been bored most of the time anyway." He (attemptedly) swipes a peeled potato from the (presumed) pile before taking a seat at the table. "Quiet is good to hear. Rare, even." He says before taking an absentminded munch out of the raw spud.

"Quiet is very good," Pansy agrees. The potato is swiped!

"But I wanted to meet his triiiiibe!" Lily whines. "I could have watched Flamecrest for them while they did grownup things."

"You know, Justin, there's actual food in the kitchen." Brand says.

"Yeah, there's applesauce and pasties and cold mutton and all sorts," Tito offers.

"Going to the kitchen would interrupt the conversation," Justin says, followed by a smile and a munch, "And I'd hate to be rude. Besides, my definition of food has never been what you might call strict. I've only discovered good food since I met you guys. And don't worry Lily, I'm sure you'll meet them someday. When they come back, a few might even come back with them. They might even bring back another baby."

"A new little welfen cub? They will? Oh Flamecrest will be so happy to have a baby brother or sister! I hope she has a little brother, then it'll be just like me and Tito, only backwards! Mommy! I need a new welfen doll to be the new cub!"

"Oh dear, Justin, now you've done it," Brand says, with a rueful chuckle. "You planted a seed, and it's already growing."

"Lily, honey, they might have a baby. That doesn't mean they will. You never know when a baby will come. Sometimes it takes a long time." Pansy says.

"I wish we would get another baby," she says. "Its been soooo long since I first wished!"

"I'd like another brother or sister," Tito says quietly, looking intently down at the potato he's peeling as he speaks. Brand and Pansy meet each other's eyes with an expression that conveys affection, amusement, and sadness all at once. They don't plan on having any more children, or at least not for some time. They have their two children in existence to focus on, and they know how demanding a new baby can be. If it made either child feel neglected, it might make the old trauma resurface.

"Just because you ate bad before is no excuse to eat poorly now," Brand says, to change the subject. "Come now, Pansy can make you a sandwich in two shakes. I'd do it myself, but..." he raises his hands, covered in flour and bits of bread dough.

"So that's where you got those dolls." He knew those probably weren't something you buy from Mallside.

The look between Pansy and brand doesn't say all that to Justin, but it says more than enough. Kids are not an option at the moment and Brand wants to change the subject.

"I wouldn't say bad. More like sixteen years of hydroponic and bland and only one year of actual 'bad'," he says placing the "bad" in air quotes. "And I don't want to waste your time on a sandwich. I could make my own sandwich, theoretically." He hasn't had access to actual bread or cheese before, but the general steps are universal, right? Bread, cheese, meat, condiment, bread.

Before Justin has finished speaking, Pansy has gotten out of her chair, stopped to step on tiptoe and pat Justin on the cheek, and then headed to the kitchen.

"Daddy's sandwiches are better than Mommy's, but hers are better than anyone else's except Daddy's," Tito says.

"It won't be the best though," Lily says. "She won't caramelize the onions and do the mushroom gravy, because that takes longer."

"There's some gravy left over from..."

"Nuh-uh. I had it with second breakfast." Lily said. "Sorry Justin. If I'd known you were coming, I'd have saved it for you."

"Don't worry, Leelee. I'll do up some onions special for Justin sometime."

"You do really good caramelized onions," Lily says to Tito.

"Do you swim, Justin? The weather's been perfect."

Butler scared the mermaid off, lest she get eaten.

"Very good ma'am." Butler says, reference Jefferies recovery. He'll watch them go down the slide however many times they end up going. Lots I presume, if Jefferies has her way.
