    Default Why doesn't Redcloak...

...visit the Oracle? If he does enough prediction that it is a viable business for him, there must be at least some public knowledge about his abilities and location. Why wouldn't Redcloak, the ultimate bookworm, know about this and head there for the information he needs on the Gate?

Xykon already tried him, he was conveniently out. Can't find the comic so I forget the verbage but I'm guessing he'd do the same thing for Redcloak . . . Rich doesn't want to give us (or them) that info.

... You know, I never even thought of that. Huh.

Well, I guess that answers that - Tiamat doesn't want to be party to her own destruction.

    Thanks for your help!

Theoretically, the Oracle must have knowledge of their plans, because Xykon tried to consult him, and he chose to avoid the lich.

With this knowledge, a worshiper of Tiamat might feel obliged to inform Tiamat of this. Still, I wonder if the Oracle's Kobold heritage has him rooting for Redcloak's success, or just to choose not to get too involved. The Oracle didn't seem overly upset about the saviours of the world leaving with misleading info during their first visit.

The Oracle seems more than a sideline character. Very knowledgeable, can communicate with ghosts, and can prepare in advance against threats. If he chose to get involved one way or another, he'd be very fearsome.

And on the poster, the Oracle is drawn quite large, so I suspect we will be seeing him again.

I think the oracle was out for another reason, not because he knows about the plan and didn't want to help.

Think: What does Xykon do when someone tells him something that he doesn't want to hear?
Hint: It starts with M and ends with eteor Swarm.

Or even easier: The oracle knew he wouldn't be there, for whatever reason, and so he made sure not to be there.

He says in the same post that the Oracle is the most important, non-good character that's the same size as Belkar. He is important, he's just not necessarily evil.

Another possibility is that his Oracular powers informed him that The Dark One isn't entirely on the up-and-up, and that the Plan would probably doom the world, and the resentful pantheon will feed the Dark One into the Snarl. Furthermore, all the gods were supposed to be involved in the creation of the EXP Fodder races. Why does Tiamat promote clerics and oracles instead of just letting her non-fodder followers to scrape some EXP out of them?

No, that's not what that said. The "important" bit of the sentence is not what it's about.

He's the most important non-good character the same size of Belkar.

How many other small sized characters are there?
    The gnome Belkar killed
The three kobolds of the LG that Belkar killed
Leeky Windstaff the druid that left the LG after Cliffport

That's really all I can remember. Goblins aren't small sized.
Tarquin's accountant hadn't been introduced at that time yet.

So it really only left the Oracle. But reading any importance into it is pretty far fetched. He's more important than Leeky or the dead guys, but thats it.

Actually, Kilkil is also on the poster. But that's not the point, since he is nowhere near as important as the Oracle.

Remind me again why kobolds would support Redcloak's plan? I thought Redcloak's constituency was the goblinoids.

Leeky was a gnome, and thus small-sized. "Kaboom" Redaxe was a dwarf, and thus medium-sized.

In my defence, I've never played this weird game before, so I have no way of knowing that dwarves are medium but slightly shorter gnomes are small -_-

The tag on Durkon's armour lists its size as medium.

(Yes I am aware this is a very obscure thing to reference considering it was in the first 50 or so strips.)

That by itself would not be a reason for the Oracle to avoid Xykon. After all, the Oracle knew Belkar was going to stab and kill him, and he didn't avoid Belkar because of that.

It's what happens after that: zombification. If Xykon takes away his body, the clerics can't rez him.

Not to mention the fact that Xykon can cast Soul Bind.

I'd say that one reason Redcloak doesn't meet with the Oracle is because the Oracle enjoys giving most people useless answers and would thus be a waste of money and time. Besides, what is he even supposed to ask? "Where is Xykon's phylactery"? He's too busy with other matters. The phylactery will show up when it needs to. "Will the plan I sacrificed my brother and countless innocent goblins for actually work"? He is not going to risk an answer he doesn't want to hear. "Where are the gates"? Xykon's got that one covered. "How can I best achieve The Plan" or "How can I bypass the defences around Girard's gate"? Those questions are too broad and guaranteed to recieve useless answers.

Also, Rich said not being affiliated with Xykon or the Linear Guild was a plus, which means being affiliated with the Linear Guild was a minus for Yikyik, Leeky, and Yokyok.

    Redcloak: "Where is Xykon's amulett?"
    Oracle: "In your pocket."

    The purpose here is two-fold:
First, to point out that asking that (suggested) question would be pointless as Redcloak already knows that answer.
Second, I reference this strip: http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0095.html

How your/Bilbo's version fits my post better is what I do not get.

Why would he ask after the phylactery after he had found it? Obviously if he was going to ask for that, he'd ask before it was found, to make finding it easier.
However he might have figured if he can't locate it with magic a stupid oracle can't either.

Asking ANYTHING about the Plan might tip off the wrong people/deities to the Dark Ones plan.
