Remake: the Game
On another forum that I frequent, they're playing this game and, without a trace of irony, I declare it to be super-fun!
Basically, "Take a classic past media thing of some description and reimagine it for a more modern audience or sensibility!"
So pick a show/film/comic/book that you think has missed potential and tell us how you would reboot/remake/re-jig it.
As an example, I offer my entry from that forum*:
"All I wanted was to understand, to know this world in all of its splendour. But I used forbidden means to do so, the magical arts outlawed by the tyrant king. On his orders they came for me, dragged me from my home. They called me necromancer, they called me wicked, they called me villain.
I endured weeks of torture in the royal dungeons. They wished to make an example of me, that all free-thinkers could see the price of disobedience. So began their experiments with the vitriol acid.
The king visited me then. He saw the ruin that had been my face and gave me my new name. He laughingly decreed that all would know me thus, my true identity forever burned away.
I have no doubt that I would have died soon after, if not for the intervention of my apprentice Lynn. Brilliant, perceptive and beautiful, but persecuted for the colour of her skin, faithful Lynn used every penny she had to bribe enough guards for me to make my escape. We fled that night, most likely never to see our homes again.
At first, we thought only of survival; running, hiding, seeking refuge where we could. Over time, we chanced upon other poor souls who had strayed too far from the king's narrow image of normalcy. A savant, who could intuitively understand and control the thinking of seemingly any animal in the land, but who was despised for his simple mind and bestial looks. A scientist, who had been forced to replace his injured eyes with mechanical implants, but by doing so fell foul of the 'physical purity' laws of the hegemony. A mutant, with incredible amphibious powers, driven to hide in a distant fen to avoid mockery and violence. Together, we sought a new home.
Eventually, deep beneath a mountain in a storm-blasted wasteland where even serpents could barely survive, we found it: a vast network of caves, where we could exist beyond the king's reach. Life was hard, but we lived free.
Months passed, and I realised that simple survival was not enough. As my understanding of magic had grown, I was able to view from afar events that were unfolding in the kingdom, and I despaired. All those who did not fit the ideal of perfection demanded by the monarchy - blindly obedient, proudly ignorant, racially 'pure' - were marginalised, abused or even slaughtered. I could not stand it. Through magic and cunning, we reached out to these disenfranchised masses and offered them sanctuary.
Over time, we gathered a most diverse group. All those whose existence challenged the orthodoxy were welcomed: enchanters and inventors, 'monsters' and 'misfits', radicals and freedom fighters. I soon realised that our combined skills and talents could be formidable indeed, and began to think that perhaps, just perhaps, the community that we had made could also become an army.
The king grows crueler every day, and we cannot shelter everyone from his wrath. His evil must be opposed, the regime must be toppled before it crushes all that is good in our world. The time to run is over, now is the time to fight.
And the fight must begin soon. We have discovered that the king - who lists gross hypocrisy amongst his many sins - has a 'pet' sorceress imprisoned within a distant castle, who he has used to empower his own son with supernatural might, transforming the boy into a being with impossible strength and unending stamina. With such a warrior at his side, who would dare challenge the king?
I dare.
The scars you have given me, I will wear as a badge of defiance. The name you have given me, I will turn into a legend.
I dare to challenge you! I dare to dream of a free Eternia! I dare to oppose the most powerful man in the universe!
I am Skeletor - and I dare anything!"

Re: Remake: the Game
You know, there was a series on the Escapist that more or less did that. Well, not quite, Bowser was still wearing a dragon costume, but it had Kirby as Hannibal Lecter, Luigi as a mushroom drug dealer, a strip club run by Captain Falcon and a doomsday cult run by the guy from Pikmin.

Re: Remake: the Game
Jem and the Holograms, redone as a gritty look into behind the scenes nastiness of the music industry only with a sentient AI that has it's own agenda.
Nobody songwriter Jerrica Benton is having no success breaking into the music business on her own power and growing bitter from watching less talented musicians grow famous on her hard work. All that changes when she starts receiving strange e-mails from a mysterious 'person' calling themselves Synergy. Synergy promises to make her bigger than the biggest star if she follows some simple but odd instructions.
Fast forward a year later "Jem" is on the top of the charts with her eccentric musical style, Silent Hill fashion sense and surreal videos, basically a blatant expy of Lady Gaga.
From here the series focuses on just what horrible things Synergy has made Jerrica do to become Jem, the corrupt dealings of the executives of Starlight records in the face of Jerrica's seeming insanity and the advent of the digital age changing the nature of their business, the emotional strain the whole thing puts on Jerrica's boyfriend Rio and Synergy's true origins and sinister motives.Rural Reign An Original Superhero Webcomic Written by Me and AteMozzarlla
